Olivia Shilling
Livvy has lived in Johnstown most of her life and has
fond memories of Junior Choir and Sunday School at the
church. Over the years, as figure skating began to involve a
greater commitment, her ability to attend services grew limited.
Although time for physical church diminished, her love of
Christ grew through prayer, devotionals, and family
discussions about the purpose of God’s hand in our lives.
Since 5th grade, Livvy has pursued rigorous
coursework through the Ohio Virtual Academy. At graduation
this June, Livvy will give the salutatorian address to her
class of over 850 students. Livvy enjoys reading, golfing, and
playing the ukulele in her spare time, and her favorite
subjects to study are chemistry, physics, mathematics, and
history.
Currently, Livvy is thrilled to be training at the U.S.
Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She
began her skating journey over 10 years ago as an alternative
to ballet class and has enjoyed the many successes and
failures that sports offer. Each day at the training center is a
mental and physical challenge, and she is grateful that she
can find strength in the solid footing she received from her
family and from the Presbyterian Church of Johnstown.
Once finished with training, Livvy will resume her
academic pursuits. She was accepted into several engineering
programs throughout the United States, where she plans to
study petroleum and natural gas engineering, if that program
is offered, or mechanical engineering, at schools where it is
not. She is inspired by the thought of improving the day-today lives of others through providing access to safe, low-cost
energy solutions.
