Wisselbrunnen for decades, and in recent years, we’ve
also had a small parcel of the Marcobrunn site. In 2012, for

from these estates. Three wines that couldn’t differ more

SPARKLING WINES
All Balthasar Ress sparkling wines are produced according to the méthode champenoise or traditional method [fermented

KEITUM [SYLT]
Germany’s northernmost vineyard lies
10 meters [ca. 33 ft.] above sea level in
close proximity to the Wadden Sea on the
outskirts of Keitum on Sylt, an island
in the North Sea. In 2009, the Agricultural
Ministry of Schleswig-Holstein awarded
Weingut Balthasar Ress a contract to
cultivate a 0.3-ha [0.7-acre] piece of
property on the island.

The small vineyard in Keitum/Sylt lies in a hollow and is
sheltered on three sides by plant growth that guarantees
optimal wind protection. The microclimate, with its high
number of sun hours [1,714 on Sylt compared with 1,587 in
the Rheingau], bodes well for cultivating the early ripening
varieties Solaris and Rivaner.

SPIRITS
Consistently high standards of performance and
reliability have been the hallmarks of the estate since
Balthasar Ress founded it in 1870. Naturally, these
high expectations, which are clearly reflected in the
high quality of Balthasar Ress wines, also apply to the
Balthasar Ress brandies and the materials from which
they are made – the finest grapes and pomace. The
estate depends exclusively on renowned, experienced
distillers to produce its brandies. With skill, knowledge,
and sensitivity they create the choice distillates of
Balthasar Ress.
