FORUM ON “DARI PASAR KE MEJA MAKAN: SELAMATKAH MAKANAN ANDA?” A food safety forum entitled “Dari Pasar ke Meja Makan: Selamatkah Makanan Anda?” was successfully held on 9th September 2014 at the Conference Room ofSchool of Industrial Technology, USM. The aim of the forum was to create awareness among consumers and food handlers, on the importance of proper cooked food and raw material handling, in order to prevent food spoilage which may lead to food poisoning. The invited panel of speakers were Pn. Ku Nafishah Ku Ariffin (Food Safety & Quality Division, Ministry of Health, Malaysia), Pn. Hhatijah (Customer Association Penang), Mr. Kalimuthu Sockalingam (Municipal Council of Penang Island), and Prof. Gulam Rusul Rahmat Ali as the moderator. The forum has gathered around 80 participants including USM staff, USM’s Cafeteria food handlers, USM postgraduate and undergraduate students, as well as the vendors from Taman Tun Sardon’s wet market. In addition, booth displays were also set up in the School of Industrial Technology Foyer by the Ministry of Health, Majlis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang, and the Federal Agricultural Marketing Agency (FAMA) exhibiting various education materials to promote safe and healthy food etiques. Pusat Sejahtera USM also supported the program by offering by a free basic medical check up for the attendees.
