Wov 4-14
April 2014
First Baptist Church Pine Mountain
Pastor’s Corner
Back in 1965 and 1966, there was a TV show starring
Chuck Connors, as Jason McCord. The theme chorus
claimed, "Branded, scorned as the one who ran. What
do you do when you're branded, and you know your a
man. Wherever you go, for the rest of your life, you
must prove, your a man."
As we approach Passion Week this month. In a very real sense, Jesus was also branded,
as a supposed radical. Someone who was trying to upset the religious apple cart. We read
these words in II Corinthians 5:21, "He made Him who knew no sin to be sin in our behalf, that
we might become the righteousness of God in Him."
Beloved, Jesus was branded for something He did not do, "He made Him ...to be sin."
Simply a Holy God, designated His Son to become "despised and rejected," branded of sorts.
Even though Pilate would find Him innocent of any crime.
The Lord's branding was for something we all did, "in our behalf." You and me were found
guilty of transgressing God's law. We deserved to be branded, but instead He was. If there
was something unfair, it was the punishment Jesus endured for unworthy sinners like us.
Nevertheless, our Lord being branded, gave us something out of this world. Essentially,
"that we might become the righteousness of God in Him!" What transpired was a marvelous
exchange, our unrighteousness for His righteousness.
So as we remember the sacrifice, ideally the branding of Jesus. Let us appreciate afresh, the
wonder of it all, "we are accepted in the beloved." Jesus was the God man, who endured the
shame, to provide us the fame of being called the Children of God.
In Him,

Children’s Update:
by Amanda Ross
The children's group had a great March. In Preschool Sunday School, we continued learning about
Israel's judges. We read Judges chapter 1 and learned about Israel conquering several different cities in
the land God had promised them. We learned how God used judges to help keep His people on the right
path. We talked about Othniel and Ehud, two of the first judges after Joshua's death. We learned about
the way Ehud killed the very fat King Eglon of Moab and freed the children of Israel from his oppression.
On Wednesday nights we almost finished watching the Life of Jesus series on DVD. We watched videos
about Jesus birth, His miracles, and His disciples. We enjoyed popcorn and chocolate covered raisins
while we reviewed all we have learned about Jesus over the past few months.
In Children's Church, we read a book about Annie Armstrong and made our own "mite boxes" to collect
money for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. We also made a St. Patrick's Day craft and talked about
how the three leaves of the shamrock can help us remember God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
We had a great time at our movie night on March 22. We watched "How to Train Your Dragon Part 2" and
enjoyed pizza and popcorn together.
NURSERY KIDS TAKE A FIELD TRIP
The children from the Wednesday night nursery took a field trip over to Moss & Sons Feed and Seed to
check out some of God's creations. Colt learned about chickens and the foods they eat while Lincoln
checked out the baby goat and Wally got to know the baby cows. The children had a blast playing with
the animals and learning how to be gentle with them.

Testament? Come find out exactly where!

get-togethers, we usually mix in some study and recreation. Whether its Halo, NERF, basketball, or ping-pong, we are usually doing something every night. For
