View this email in your browser 04/21/16 Formula 1 Day: Hands on Physics in Elementary School During the last two weeks, the Elementary School has been learning about physics and building race cars from household materials. The final race was very exciting and students went home proud of their achievements. Learn more about this great project here. Washington Trip Two weeks ago classes 11/12 went on a class trip to Washington D.C. There they went on a sightseeing tour, on which they saw the typical sights like the Lincoln Memorial, the White House and the Smithsonian museums.They also arranged meetings with the German ARD studio, the German Embassy and the representatives of Joe Kennedy. To sum it up they visited everything from cultural to political aspects and had a great time. -Laurenz Fiedler Save the Date! The Abiball this year will be held on Saturday, June 18 at GISB. For all of those new to GISB, the Abiball is a family-friendly "prom" with loads of dancing, food, drinks and a great atmosphere to celebrate the graduating class. On Saturday, March 19 the GISB volleyball team won first place among all of the North American German Schools for the first time. After nearly 7 hours of game-play and some very close calls, GISB's volleyball team brought home the trophy. Thank you to coach Jägersküpper who lead our team with many pep-talks, tactics and motivation in every training. If you're interested in joining the volleyball team, stop by Tuesdays from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Students (Grades 9 - 12), staff and parents can join! Play "Hit me with your best shot" in the background! Ultimate Frisbee Team Are you familiar with terms like "Layout", "Forehand" and "Backhand"? Then make sure to join GISB's new ultimate frisbee team! We meet every Thursday from 3:10 - 4:00 p.m. on the Harvard sports field to train and - hopefully - compete. The team is for students in grade 6 and up. Questions? ASP & Summer Camp Important ASP information for Friday April 8, 2016 Classes end at noon on Friday April 8 and there will be no Homework Supervision or ASP Activities, however we will have regular ASP until 4 pm. Due to the early release there is a separate ASP sign up for this day. Sign up is required for all students staying in the ASP, including students that are normally signed up on Friday. Chambermusic Concert The very talented GISB parent Rupert Thompson is performing a concert as part of the Apple Hill String Quartet on Sunday, April 24, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on 15 St Paul St, Brookline. AHSQ will perform an exquisite chamber version of Haydn's "Miracle" Symphony with Peggy Pearson. Ms. Pearson and members of the AHSQ will perform the world premiere of Yi Yiing Chen's quartet for oboe and strings, Sailing Against Time, AHSQ takes center stage again with Beethoven’s "Harp" Quartet.
