By all accounts she is enjoying her rest and relaxation. Well, what a busy term Term 4 is! We are all full steam ahead, training for our Interschool Jumps Carnival on Wednesday and the Interschool Athletics on Friday. I am sure we will give it our best, as Braeside students always do, and maybe even come home with some trophies. I ventured down to the Library last week to listen to the Year 5 speeches, delivered by the nominees for Student Councillor and Sports Captain positions. I must say I was very impressed by the amount of thought that went into the preparation of these. Each student that delivered a speech had clearly thought about what being an elected member would mean to them and how they would approach their duties. Congratulations to the successful candidates. The P&C Katanning Show fundraiser was well attended by a lot of our staff members, with many of them giving their time to sell strawberries and cream. I would like to acknowledge the mountain of work Corry Why and her daughter Chelsea put into this event. Their efforts are impressive as Corry is a staff member and does not have any children at our school. Thank you on behalf of the P&C. At the P&C meeting last Monday the committee pledged to finish off the paving along the playground side of Rooms 3 and 4, look into funding the student diaries for 2016 and to supply the funds to finish off the cubby in Pre-Primary. We thank them for their support. During Week 2 we had representatives from Foodbank come to our school and work with the Room 5, Room 12 and Room 9 classes to spread the healthy eating message and do cooking with the students. The Food Sensations Tour was a great success, with students enjoying what they had prepared and learning lots about healthy foods and eating habits along the way. We have included photos of the day below, and onto the next page! Food Sensation Incursion Assembly – Room 6 Acting Principal’s News Page 2 Braeside Primary School New sletter Principal’s News Continued… Food Sensation Incursion Mr Andrew Patrick has finished his practicum in the Room 12 classroom last Friday. We would like to wish Andrew all the best for his future teaching career and thank him for his efforts at our school. We are sure he learnt a lot from his wonderful mentor, Miss Dodd. Mr Patrick was presented with a lovely card and gift from the students in Room 12 on his last day. This year, Braeside hosted a Year 12 Workplace Learning Student, Samara Nicholson. Miss Nicholson worked in the Room 8 classroom with Miss Altus and with Miss McCarley in PE. At her Valediction last Thursday night, Samara won the “Workplace Learning – On the Job Ttraining” award. We would like to congratulate Samara on this achievement and thank her for the time she spent with us. The children formed a great bond with Miss Nicholson, which was very evident when she was „mobbed‟ last week when she returned to have her photo taken! Food Sensation Incursion As we head into the notoriously busy term, a timely reminder to parents to keep routines of home reading and diary checks. Teachers often use diaries to communicate with parents and it is important that students get into the habit of using these as they are intended – as a communication tool and to keep abreast of homework activities. Spot checks of diaries will occur this week to keep students on their toes! In closing I would like to congratulate two ex-Braeside students, Sheridan Kowald and Cooper Morrow, who have been elected Head Girl and Head Boy for 2016 at Katanning Senior High School. A fine achievement - we wish them well. Warm Regards, Sharon Poett Acting Principal P & C News – School Canteen Braeside P & C Committee Food Sensation Incursion Braeside‟s School Canteen will not be operating for the rest of 2015. What we will be offering, starting as of Monday the 9th November, is a canteen service run from the Katanning Senior High School canteen and delivered to Braeside. The students from Braeside will be able to order lunches 5 days a week from the KSHS Canteen Menu. The students will place their order in a box at the front office and their lunch order will be given out from the canteen at lunch time. When placing a lunch order it will need to be on a brown paper bag which will be available at the Braeside front office or can be purchased at Woolworths. Change can be given and will be returned in the bag with the child‟s lunch. KSHS canteen offer a prepaid card, where money can be sent in the brown paper bag to be added as a credit or you can pay the KSHS canteen in advance. You will then be notified when your credit is nearly gone. The food and drinks will be delivered to Braeside at the beginning of lunch with hot and cold food and drinks stored separately, then combined as it is given to the student. *The KSHS Canteen Menu is attached to the back of this Newsletter* If you have any queries please contact Lynley Keley, KSHS P&C Canteen Coordinator on 0427 235 082 ljkeley@westnet.com.au Braeside Primary School New sletter Page 3 News from the Arts Fiddlesticks presented by Musica Viva. Fiddlesticks performed at Braeside last Tuesday and what a fabulous performance it was too! This magical trio of guitar, violin and cello was the perfect introduction to chamber music for students. The three outstanding musicians introduced string music in an entertaining and relevant way. Chamber music is often described as a conversation between instruments and Fiddlesticks spoke to students using music they may have recognised. Braeside students responded really well to the live performance, with enthusiastic reflections, despite the plague of bush flies! A child from year 1/2 class summed up his experience of the performance with his reflection. "I loved it when they all played vibrato!" Many thanks to the hard working P and C, who with their donation, made this an all-inclusive concert. Pictured Above: „Showing Winning‟ Lampshades by Braeside students. Physical Education News Interested students have been attending Running Club in the mornings, prior to the commencement of the school day. Miss McCarley our PE Teacher, has included a few pictures for this newsletter of those dedicated students! Page 4 Braeside Primary School Newsletter Year 5 Leadership Workshop with Mrs Ball Last week the whole Year 5 student body were organised into groups where they worked collectively to answer questions on the role and responsibility of leaders within our school. They had to brainstorm the qualities that people display when assisting the school and what good leaders do. They took part in the exercise for student council nominations and in preparation for being the school leaders next year. Students had to define „What is Leadership?‟ Here are their responses: “A good leader shows good sportsmanship, is organised, they are role models, they don‟t tease people about their culture and are responsible to finish work and stay on task. Leaders at Braeside Primary School show honour, pride and achievement.” - Lucy, Anthea, Dean, Jaiycob “Leadership is being respectful to others, being kind to others, being positive and being honest. You can be relied upon to do the right thing.” – Kate, Japhet, Lachlan, Patrick and Aaliyah “Leadership is when someone will take responsibility for others and is a good role model.
