REHABILITATION OF ROAD P127/2: DEFINITION OF SHOULDER
Endecon Ubuntu (PTY) LTD herewith wishes to elaborate on the design approach for the
rehabilitation of road P127/2.
The scope of the works entails the surfacing of the existing gravel shoulder of said road, this road
was constructed 20 years ago to the specifications of the then National Road Agency.
We refer to the attached drawing : TYPICAL CROSS SECTIONS FOR SINGLE CARRIAGEWAY
TARRED ROADS WITHIN 40M ROAD RESERVE attached as Annexure 1.
This road was constructed to have a Carriageway of 13.4m, consisting of a 7.4m surfaced area and a
6m gravel shoulder area, we are now upgrading the gravel shoulder area to a surfaced shoulder,
therefore the Carriageway will retain the same width of 13.4m, so also the travelled way (7.4m) and
shoulder (6m)
The shoulder is used by trucks and other heavy vehicles that are too wide to be accommodated in
the travelled way, and forms an integral part of the travelled way.

Please see below one of the typical cross sections inserted to indicate that the full carriageway is
13.4m and that only 7.4m of said carriageway was surfaced, and now we will surface the remaining
portion of the carriageway.
