First Day of 2016/2017
PSG Meeting - June 6, 1:30 PM
I want to explain my absence from the
Awards Assemblies. I am a member of the
Provincial Health Services Authority Board.
We oversee all province-wide health care
services, including the BC Cancer Agency
and the BC Emergency Health Services i.e. the ambulances and paramedics.
Our Board meeting this month coincides
with our Awards Assemblies days. I am
truly sorry for this scheduling conflict but it
is beyond my control. As a senior member
of the PHSA Board, I am expected to attend all Board Meetings.
There is a very important meeting of the DPS Parent Support Group on June 6, 2016 at 1:30 PM.
The parents will be asked to endorse a set of PSG
Guidelines that have been prepared. They will
also elect the Executive Members for the
2016/2017 school year.
Mrs. Atwal and Mr. JD will chair this year’s
Awards Assemblies. I know that they will
see that everything runs smoothly and
that our deserving students are properly
recognized. I congratulate everyone for a
good year!
We would appreciate a good turn-out of parents
for this meeting. The important work of the PSG
can only occur with broad-based parent support.
Let us help our children. The research is very
clear.
Thank you for your continuing support!

Minister of Education Visits
Math League Competitors
Minister of Education Mike Bernier will visit
Dasmesh Punjabi School on Friday, June 17 at
10:30 AM. We are pleased to be able to welcome
the Minister along with his colleagues Finance
Minister Michael de Jong and MLA Simon Gibson,
the Parliamentary Secretary for Independent
Schools.
The Minister and his entourage will have an opportunity to visit some of our classes. He is particularly interested in meeting our staff and students.
It is very encouraging when senior members of the
legislature make time in their busy schedules to
make personal contact with those of us who are
actually delivering school services.
Welcome to Dasmesh, Mr. Minister!
The Dasmesh teachers encourage our students to enter different scholastic competitions throughout the school year. We want our
older students to strive for excellence by pursuing opportunities beyond our school.
Congratulations, everyone!

Mother’s Day at Dasmesh Punjabi School
The young women of the Class of 2016 hosted a very successful Mother’s Day event at Dasmesh
Punjabi School on Friday, May 6, 2016. Approximately 100 mothers and grandmothers joined the
senior girls and some dedicated staff members in an afternoon of entertainment and refreshments.
Lucky Mr. Peary had an opportunity to pose with some members of the Parent Support Group who
attended this event. There are some advantages to being Principal!

BC Summer Games
Dasmesh Music on Parade
The City of Abbotsford is hosting the 2016 BC Summer Games from July 21-July 24 this year. Over
3500 athletes, coaches and officials will be coming
to our community to compete in a variety of summer sports. These young athletes are vying to move
on to regional, national and possibly even international competition in the years ahead.
The students and staff of Dasmesh Punjabi School
have answered the call for volunteers to help the
city host this major athletic event. More than sixty
students and staff have agreed to work on the various committees to help make these games a success. Dasmesh will have more volunteers helping
with this event than any other school in the city!
Thank you, Falcons!
Mr. Sangha and our musical ambassadors are in
demand. Our Dasmesh School Folk Orchestra will
be participating in the Squamish Nagar kirtan Parade on June18, 2016 .We travelled to this event
last year and they invited us back again!
Of course, Dasmesh will be proudly represented
at the Canada Day Parade on July 1, 2016 as
well. This is Canada’s 149th birthday - a real
cause for celebration.
Our school is the crucible of Punjabi Music in the
City of Abbotsford. It is a tribute to our talented
music teachers - Mr. Sangha, Mrs. Kaur, Mrs. N
Sidhu and Mrs. Randhawa - that our students
take such pride in promoting this important element of Punjabi culture.
The Class of 2016
The members of the Grad Class pose for a “character” photo at the Grad Lock-in. The students
enjoyed themselves with adult “bouncy castles”, music, games, food and souvenirs. These young
adults are poised to move beyond DPS with many pleasant memories.

Parent Survey Results
This chart summarizes the responses
of 214 parents to our annual school
parent survey.
The data might seem difficult to interpret but the different statements on
the chart are ranked from low to high.
Parents could agree or disagree with
each statement on a 1 to 5 scale. If
everyone chose 5 for a statement, its
total would be 1070. If everyone chose
4 for a statement, its total would be
856.
Overall, the parents showed broad
support for the school, our staff and
our programs. We work every day to
earn the trust and support of our
school community. In many ways, we
are an extended “family.” We take a
personal interest in each and every
student.
Thank you for choosing Dasmesh. We
are building a future here.
Jeans Day Fundraiser for Children’s Hospital
Dasmesh Punjabi School raised $3055 for the annual Jeans Day Campaign for the BC Children’s
Hospital this year. Mr. Carl Roy, the Chief Executive Officer of the Provincial Health Services Authority is going to visit our school to receive our cheque and to thank our students for their efforts. This
year’s fundraising had special meaning for us because one of our students received exceptional
care from the talented BC Children’s Hospital medical staff. Thank you, Dasmesh parents!

Grad Prom 2016
The annual Grad Prom was held at the Ramada Inn on Friday, May 27, 2016. The Dinner and Dance
were proceeded by a fashion parade of vehicles, fancy dresses and sharp suits at the school. A
good time was had by all.
Special thanks to the teachers who organized and sponsored all of the Grad activities this year.
They have worked very hard to make certain that the Class of 2016 will have cherished memories
of their time at Dasmesh.
