ComediHa! is proud to present multi-award winning
Québec comedian Mike Ward as he makes his highly
anticipated debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this
year. His show is all about the sanctity of Freedom
of Expression and our often double standards when
confronted by it. Mike has performed on TV in 20 countries
throughout Europe, Africa, Australia and North America
and at the prestigious Just For Laughs Festival in Montréal
every year since 2008.
(The show isn’t much about dolphins;
take it as a metaphor, okay?)

Gloss: Performance and Discussion
Gloss is a performance created by three Québec poets —
two hearing, one deaf— that reflects upon sign and speech,
symbol and sound, a glittering light wave that traverses
meanings. The following day, the poets, Tanya Evanson, Kaie
Kellough and Pamela E. Witcher, will discuss their differing
relationships with language and poetics, and share how they
created this unique project. (With ASL-BSL-English translation)

Since her debut in 2013, as winner of the French-Canadian
version of Last Comic Standing, Virginie Fortin has become a
rising star in Québec’s entertainment industry. Her success
has earned her a spot at the Just For Laughs Festival for
three years running, and Fortin is now a regular fixture in
French Canada’s comedy scene. Free the Dolphin is her
most recent show, making its European debut at the Fringe.
Tanya Evanson is a Montréal poet, performer,
producer, educator and director of the
Spoken Word programme at the Banff
Centre. In 2013 she received the Golden
Beret Award and was Poet of Honour at
the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word.
Kaie Kellough is a word-sound systemiser,
his work fusing formal experiment and
social engagement. He is the author of
two books of poetry and two sound
recordings, and has performed and
published internationally.
Pamela E. Witcher’s art explores issues
of feminism, sexuality, identity and deaf
culture. She has worked in psycholinguistic
research and as an interpreter, translator,
art educator and coordinator for theatre,
film and art events.
Produced in partnership with Blue Metropolis Montréal, the British Council and
the Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie du Québec.

monumental
monumental has been hailed as a landmark in
contemporary dance, bringing together two of Canada’s
most uncompromising groups, Montréal’s legendary
art-rock collective, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and
Vancouver’s contemporary dance company, The Holy
Body Tattoo. Nine dancers writhe furiously on pedestals,
obsessively enacting the gestures of everyday life, while a
live eight-piece rock band pounds expansive, mesmeric
music. monumental is both a voyeuristic exploration of
physical anguish and a celebration of human resilience, as
unsettling as it is compelling.
Experiencing the live visceral force of Godspeed You!
Black Emperor can change your beliefs about the power
of music. Confrontational, fiercely political, they bathe
their audiences in mesmerising, multi-layered symphonic
waves, inducing ecstasy, terror and everything in between.
The elusive Montréal band have a cult status, down to
their legendary anonymity, radical political convictions
and very rare live gigs. They notoriously refuse to play by
music industry rules: “No singer, no leader, no interviews,
no press photos.”
After their great success at the Edinburgh International
Festival in 2014, Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Rotterdam
Philharmonic Orchestra return to the festival with an
exciting programme. Accompanied by mezzo-soprano
Sarah Connolly, the widely acclaimed Québec conductor
will lead the orchestra through an emotionally-charged
concert of Alma Mahler’s songs and Gustav Mahler’s
Symphony No. 10 (Cooke completion).

Ubu on the Table
FLIP FABRIQUE
Attrape-moi
In this award-winning adaptation of King Ubu by
Alfred Jarry, anything goes as Poland’s fate is sealed
on a table top! Starring the Bottle as Père Ubu, the
Hammer as Bordure, the Big Teapot as King Wenceslas,
and many others, kitchen ustensils find a new life
as two performers hammer out a small-scale fresco of
grandiose buffoonery. With hundreds of performances
around the world, this highly-acclaimed hit by La Pire
Espèce makes its UK debut.
Attrape-Moi (Catch me!) involves twirling hoops, dancing
with diabolos, and soaring through the air—all in a day’s
play for Flip FabriQue, the new face of Québec circus.
High-flying, fearless and fun, these young artist-athletes
astound audiences with adrenaline-pumping feats of
cutting-edge nouveau cirque, dazzling in a crowdpleasing spectacle of extreme acrobatics, dramatic turns
on a trampoline wall, and inventive parkour. This is a
virtuoso display of athleticism and showmanship for the
whole family.
“Humorous and inventive, Ubu on the Table
tickles the funny bone and the imagination ” — Voir
“Acts that don’t seem humanly possible ”
