Organized September 9th, 1939, at Oakland, Calif., during the World Tournament held in that City. The meeting
was attended by ladies from Australia and New Zealand,
who later presented the new association with a trophy to be
played for each year by Mixed Doubles Teams. At a Banquet held the same evening, the late Herbert F. Brooks,
.in behalf of the Northern part of the State, Congratulated
and wished the new Assn. the greatest mead of success. The

The club was organized June 1st, 1934, as the Victory
Park Lawn Bowling Club and on June 15th, 1936, the name
was changed to Arroyo Seco Lawn Bowling Club, to conform
with the name adopted by the Los Angeles Park Department, Arroyo Seco Park.
Accommodations: A $16,000 Clubhouse with every modern
convenience, including hot and cold water showers, electrically equipped kitchen, and beautifully furnished social hall.
Four superb greens, on which were games 346 days last
year. Where else in the entire world can such bowling conditions and accommodations be equaled?

The Beverly Hills Lawn Bowling Club was organized in
19'23 and in 1928 moved to its present location in Roxbury
Park. In the beginning one green was sufficient.
However, due to the rapid growth of the Club, we, with the cooperation of the Park Commissioners of Beverly Hills, added
another green so that now we have two of the finest greens
to be found anywhere.
Beverly Hills, a beautiful residential city, offers bowling
enthusiasts reasonable apartment and home rentals with
nearby shopping, and theatre centers. With Hollywood and
Los Angeles on the east and Westwood, Brentwood, and
Santa Monica on the west, one is ideally' located in this
beautiful city. Through the courtesy of the Beverly Hills
Citizen we are the only lawn bowling club in the country
having a weeklv column devoted to this sport.
This club extends a most cordial invitation to all visitors.

Claremont, with a population of 3000, is a college town
located thirty-five miles east of Los Angeles in the great
citrus belt that lies along the foothills of the Sierra Madre
Mountains. Here, among trees and spacious grounds, are
Pomona College, Scripps College, and Claremont College,
the latter a graduate school.
There are three private
schools, Norton School for Boys, Webb School for Boys,
and the Girls' Collegiate School. Modern highways lead
to mountain and seashore resorts.
Summer heat is never
excessive and the average altitude is 1500 feet. Municipal
tennis, badminton, roque, bowling and golf are only a few
of the attractions that Claremont has to offer its citizens
and visitors.

CLUB FACILITmS AND ENVIRONS
Our "Home Green" is one of the best of the many
"Municipal Greens" which the city of Los Angeles has so
generously provided the lawn bowlers of Southern California.
Its location is unsurpased, not only because of its accessibility, parking facilities, and clubhouse with modern accommodations, all within' one of the city's most beautiful
small (Holmby) parks. Adjacent to the finest residential
sections and magnificent estates of some of the greatest
movie and radio celebrities, nationally known golf courses,
polo fields, University of California, and those charming
suburbs of Beverly Hills, Bel-Air, Brentwood and Westwood, yet but a short distance from the famous "Movie
Capital," Hollywood.
Within these attractive
environs
reasonable accommodations are obtainable by those bowlers
from distant points who annually sojourn to beautiful
Southern California from whom we solicit an investigation..
"Holmby Club" has an average membership of more than
forty enthusiastic bowlers, and while sociability predominates rather than that keen competition that exists in some
other clubs, visiting bowlers are assured, however, of interesting games and a most generous welcome. The club
has limited equipment for temporary loan to beginners
whom we encourage to become interested in this, the oldest
most beneficial and healthful of all out-of-door sports.
Drive out Wilshire Boulevard through Beverly Hills, just
beyond the L. A. County Club to Comstock Avenue, turn
right a couple of blocks and there you are. You will always
find the latch string on the outside.

The Kola-Wila Lawn Bowling Club was organized November 17, 1937, by a group of professional and business
men who named the Club "Kola- Wila" meaning "Friends"
or "Companions."
The Club play is confined principally to Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
The Club uses the Municipal lawn bowling greens, in
beautiful Recreation Park, where one may not only lawn
bowl, but play golf, tennis, baseball, swim and picnic.
The Club, though existing only a little over 2 years now
enjoys a growing active membership, most of whom never
bowled before, but who are now enthusiastic bowlers.

Laguna's green is located on a cliff high above the Pacific, overlooking an unsurpased scenic panorama of ocean,
rugged coastline, village and mountains.
Visitors are always welcome and Laguna is a popular objective for them. Tournaments are usually held on Thursdays, but there is spirited play daily. The club is in its
tenth season.
The Laguna club strives rather for an enthusiastic membership than for numbers. One healthy aspect of the club
is the number of summer members who return year after
year for the entire season. Inter-club play with Redlands
Riverside, Long Beach and now with the new and beautifully equipped Santa Ana club grow in importance from
year to year. Numerous experienced bowlers have been attracted to Laguna since installation of the green, and now
make their permanent home in Laguna Beach, which is a
quiet and picturesque seaside village, with a large colony
of painters, hand craftsmen and writers.

The Ladies' Auxiliary have about 20 actual playing members and are taking an active part in the social activities
of the club.
Long Beach can truly be called the recreation center of
Southern California. Swimming, boat racing, fishing, tennis, roque, horse shoe pitching, shuffle board, Fly casting
and lawn bowling.
The famous Long Beach Municipal Band conducted by
Mr. Herbert Clark plays daily except Monday at the Rainbow Pier Lagoon.
There are excellent hotel and apartment house accommodation and first clas picture houses.

The bowling green is located on the south shore, overlooking Newport Bay with a view of boats and yachts at
anchor or sailing by on the waters of Newport Harbor
which was improved in 1935, at a cost of nearly two million dollars under direction of United States Army Engineers.

Organized in 1913, this club is the oldest in Southern
California.
An active entertainment and membership committee not
only greets visiting bowlers but makes them feel really
welcome and at home.
This harbor is now accredited as the finest yacht harbor
in the country and the local citizens are planning for further additions and improvements. Newport Beach, with its
many delightful subdivisions of Balboa, Balboa Island, Lido
Isle, Corona del Mar, and Newport Heights, is rapidly
gaining fame as one of the most desirable residential cities
in Southern California, offering as it does practically everytype of home and residence sites, together with fine apartments, cottages and good eating places. It is also gaining
fame for its fine health advantages.
The club welcomes women bowlers.
Interesting club competitions are carried on continuously and the club makes a policy of entertaining, and being
entertained, by their neighboring clubs as often as their
schedule will permit.
This club was organized with a charter membership of
70 at the beginning of 1935. The green is in first class
shape and are open to play any day of the week except
Mondays and we hope to have several tournaments to which
all clubs will be invited. Notice of which will be sent out
in due course.

Pachappa is now operating on its fifteenth consecutive
year, is one of the few privately operated clubs in Southern California. Its location on the edge of town, about a
mile from the center of the city is very convenient and easily accessible.
The club has one regulation green situated in a beautiful
grove high on the edge of an arroyo wher the drainage is

The Palm Springs Tennis Club, now ending its third
season, added a bowling green to its numerous attractions
last winter.
Measuring 126 feet long by 18 feet wide,
it is the first green to be constructed at the famous desert
resort and proved to be such a popular rendezvous for visiting bowlers and club members anxious to learn the ancient
game that it has been decided to enlarge the green next
season, which will open on October 15th.
The club also contains three championship tennis courts,
a swimming pool, a trout stream, locker rooms-and
the
clubhouse with bar nestles picturesquely at the foot of Mt.
San Jacinto near Tahquitz Canyon.
The owners are Mr. and Mrs. Austin G. McManus; Anthony Burke, manager, and Betty Nuthall, assistant manager.

In the advancement of Lawn Bowling in California the
Pasadena Lawn Bowling club, since its organization, June
30, 19'21,has always been in the front rank. It was one of the
four clubs to form the Southern California Lawn Bowling
Association and has been the arena of some of the most
notable tournaments held in this country. The cup presented by its former president, Charles J. Fox, brought three
British teams here in unsuccessful efforts to win it. 'The
cup was then sent to Florida, where a fourth team of plucky
Britons won it and took it home.
These contests had the result of giving the Pasadena club
almost an international status and each winter many subjects of Great Britain are in the habit of making Pasadena
their headquarters.
Situated in a beautiful park, surrounded by rare trees, and
lovely flowers, the Pasadena greens have an admirable setting. Located within walking distance of the Civic Center,
the gay shops and theatres and Pasadena's celebrated hotels,
.the clubhouse is particularly accessible. The two greens
are of excellent construction and so well drained that within
a few hours of a heavy rainfall they are playable, a characteristic much appreciated by the members of affiliated
clubs for miles around.
The clubhouse is comfortable and cozily furnished.
It
was built to accommodate a maximum of a hundred members and as the membership is kept at about half that
number the club is able to care for its winter guests comfortably.
Not so old in years, the Pasadena club has had a ripe experience and has established a tradition which it strives
to maintain, of sportsmanship, comradeship, friendliness,
and hospitality.

HISTORY OF THE CLUB
Among the many and varied attractions possessed by the
beautiful city of Redlands is its lawn bowling green situated
in Sylvan Park, beside the swimming pool, surrounded by
lawns, semi-tropical trees and shrubbery, nestled in a
district famous for its orange groves, bathed in sunshine,
surrounded with flowers, yet in full view of lofty snowcapped mountain peaks.
It is indeed a spot of scenic
grandeur and charm,
When you come to Riverside, you will find our green, in
Fairmont Park, a short distance northerly from rocky Mt.
Rubidoux, by following any of the winding roadways to
the north side of beautiful Fairmont Lake.
The Redlands club, organized by Melvin L. Hooper in the
early twenties, is one of the most active clubs in the Southern California Lawn Bowling Association, has two fine
greens, an adequate clubhouse, and one of the best lighting
systems for evening play on the Pacific coast.

Santa Monica Lawn Bowling Club is one of the new members in the Southern California Lawn Bowling Association
Unknown to the majority of the bowling fraternity, this
club of limited membership has been in existence for several
years through the courtesy of Senator L. C. Phipps, who
has a green on his estate which the members use on Tuesday
and Saturday afternoons.
-Owing to the limited accommodation and private ownership, visitors cannot be entertained except by invitation;
but the club hopes in the near future to have a municipal
green and are working to that end with the city authorities.
