R IDGLEA C OUNTRY C LUB E STATES H OMEOWNERS A SSOCIATION F ALL 2008 N EIGHBORHOOD N EWSLETTER OUTGOING PRESIDENT’S COLUMN BY GIL DALEY Thank you very much for the opportunity to serve the neighborhood association as president the past couple of years! It has been a great honor and pleasure to serve. I am very proud of our neighborhood, what we have accomplished, and especially the solidarity and unity we showed in the face of some difficult issues during the past couple of years (e.g., zoning, gas drilling, and quiet zone to name a few). Seeing neighbors coming together and looking out for one another repeatedly during my tenure made me proud to live here. We are in great hands with Hank Bourke this year as our president. We also have a talented and dedicated Board this year, including our Area Representatives, 1st V.P. (Matt Poston), 2nd V.P. Linda Thomas, secretary (Kathie Connors), general counsel (Bryon Hammer, Esq. of Bourland, Wall & Wenzel, P.C.), and treasurer (John Kellogg of Kellogg & Kellogg, P.C.). Committee members Mike Rankin & Ed Oertel (Website), Jane Smith (4th of July), Carl Wentworth (Restrictions & Covenants), Murphy Kleuser (Property Management), Dina & John Kellogg (Newsletter), Brian Divilbiss & Amy Chairez (Welcome Committee & Annual Dinner), Laurie MacGregor (Pet Registry & Neighbor of the Month), Cheryl Dielman (Yard of the Month), Hank Bourke & Tom Murnane (Advertising), and Andrew Sage (Holiday Décor) also deserve our respect and gratitude. We also have the luxury of Tom Murnane’s (Emil Award Winner and former president) experience, continued guidance, and determination. George Muckleroy, my next door neighbor, also served you very well as my predecessor. He passed the torch to me around the time he and Georgann found out the stork would bring little Rob soon. Stephanie and I are very excited to expect our first visit from the stork this month. We will be proud to raise our daughter, Amelia, in our neighborhood. P AGE 2 F ALL 2008 President’s Column By Hank Bourke Thanks to all who contribute to make our neighborhood a great place to live! Those whom represent you on the Ridglea Country Club Estates Homeowners Association are trying to make this a better and more attractive place to call home. Current Projects: The front entrance is getting a facelift at the present time. New shrubs, flower beds, fencing and neighborhood lettering is in the works. The RCCEHA Board has had many positive comments on the changes to the front entrance to this point and your feedback is appreciated. Future Projects: At our RCCEHA meeting in October, we discussed the possible replacement of the wooden fence along the access road. We will appreciate you feedback on if you think it needs to be replaced. We will need to raise funds if we decide to replace the fence. Please pass on comments to your Area Director. Drilling Update: The drilling site is being prepared and the drilling should start in the near future. Also, we received a positive result in our request to have the gas pipeline moved further away from the houses on Winding Way on the westside of our neighborhood. The proposed pipeline route will transport natural gas south of the well site under the creek and it will go along the west side of the utility easement toward I-20. Contact your Area Director if you have any questions about the proposed new location. Website: Mike Rankin continues to do a great job heading our Website. Please be sure to check the Website (www.rcceha.com) regularly for updates about what is going in the estates. Current Openings: We are very fortunate to have many great neighborhood leaders. We would greatly appreciate some more leadership in the following roles that are open: Areas G & M Directors! Please consider serving in one of the these vital roles. If you are interested, please contact me at 817738-3132. Thanks ~ Hank Please consider making an additional contribution for current and future improvements happening for our neighborhood: ♦ ♦ ♦ Replacement of Allen Place Lighting in the Trees and Signs Improvements at Front Entrance Replacement of Wood Fence at Front Entrance If you would like to contribute, please mail checks to: RCCEHA, PO Box 121281, Fort Worth, TX 76121 Please include a note or memo on your check if you would like your contribution used for a specific item above. R. A. (Federal Railroad Administration). When final approval is received, the City will officially notify the railroad our Quiet Zone is in effect. Approximately 21 days from the notification, engineers should discontinue any sounding of the train whistle, unless an obstruction is in view. The City is anticipating the end of December as an effective date. Monitoring by the City will begin following that date. Reports may be forwarded to the City citing any violations. Their nomination email included these words: “I would like to nominate someone who is a great neighbor; that would be Col. Marvin “Sparky” Adams (Retired). He has lived in the neighborhood for many years and when we moved in about four years ago, he was one of the first people to come over and introduce himself and welcome us to the neighborhood. Since that time he has been so very kind to pick up our paper almost every morning and place it on our front porch during his morning walk. He does this for several of the neighbors along his walk. If you happen to be out that early, he is always very jovial. He and his wife, Connie are both very kind and pleasant neighbors and we are glad they live nearby. Thanks to the Valentines for nominating Sparky and Thanks to Sparky for making RCCE a great place to live! August 2008 Cheryl Dielman Cheryl was nominated by Carolyn Wehba during a phone conversation. Carolyn stated that she appreciates all that Cheryl does for the Association such as being the Area V Representative and heading up RCCE’s Calloway’s Nursery Yard of the Month program. But most importantly she appreciates Cheryl for having been a walker for several years now in the three day walk of the Susan G. Koeman walk for breast cancer. Carolyn who has several family members that have been affected by this terrible disease, appreciates all the time and energy that Cheryl donates to help fight the disease and to find a cure. Thanks Carolyn for nominating Cheryl and….. Thanks to Cheryl for her contribution to make RCCE a great neighborhood! August marks the end of the “Chick-Fil-A” neighbor of the month program. Thank you to Chris Kasper for implementing the Neighbor of the Month Program. Also, thanks to Mike and Gayle Janicek for sponsoring this program and supplying the Chick-fil-a Free Meal coupons for the winners. Again, stop by their store at 4913 Bryant Irvin Road and tell them thanks for actively supporting YOUR homeowner’s association. F ALL 2008 P AGE 9 RCCE Good Neighbor Program Laurie MacGregor has agreed to chair the RCCE Good Neighbor program (a continuation of our Neighbor of the Month program) starting in September. Thank you for continuing this great program . The RCCE Good Neighbor will be published quarterly in the newsletter. If you would like to nominate an RCCE resident as a Good Neighbor please call Laurie MacGregor at 817-731-1558. We are also looking for a business or resident who like to sponsor this program (small prize donation for the winners). Please contact Laurie if you are interested in sponsoring the program. The next Good Neighbor will be published in the winter 2009 newsletter. Fall 2008 Good Neighbors Greyland Goff, age 9, and his sister Evan Pearl, age 6, are our newest Good Neighbors. The RCCE Pet Registry nominated these two children for their initiative, hard work and kindness which resulted in the return of Mama Dog and her three puppies. Mama Dog and her six week old puppies had wandered from Wind River Court where their owners were visiting with relatives before returning to military duty in Iraq. The biggest puppy became separated from the other dogs. Greyland and Evan Pearl made and put up posters and then cared for the dogs until all the dogs were once again reunited with their very happy owners. The Pet Registry was most impressed with the workmanship of the posters. Jason and Wendy Goff are Greyland and Evan Pearl’s parents. The family lives on River Valley Court. Dr. Craig Verwers with the Rotary Club of Ft. Worth, SW that is in charge of the US Flag Program (he heads up the Boy Scouts that puts out the flags on holidays in RCCE) will be at the Annual Dinner for you to renew or sign up for being part of the program. Also he will be in the neighborhood the weekend prior to the Memorial Day weekend going door to door to solicit interested neighbors to sign up for the flag program. His phone number is 817-763-0261. F ALL 2008 P AGE 10 CHILD CARE SERVICES IN RCCE KALLI GOODRICH Her parents are Michael and Misty Goodrich, 817-312-6234 (cell) "I live in RCCE, am 12 years old, and would love to baby-sit for you. I am in the 7th grade at All Saint's Episcopal School. I love children and am a hard worker. Completed the Safe Sitter program at Harris Methodist Southwest, 6/5/07.” STANCEY SMITH Her parents are Donnie & Michele Smith, 817-732-6648 “My name is Stancey Smith and I completed the Harris Safe-Sitters class this past summer. I have lived in RCCE my entire life and been the beneficiary of many neighborhood sitters myself. My grandparents also live here! I am in 8th grade and very responsible (President of NJHS, VBS volunteer, Mission Trip participant). I am available to baby-sit on weekends during the school year, with more flexible hours in the summer.” ASHLEY STROUP Her parents are Robert and Kathy Stroup, 817-763-5311 “My name is Ashley Stroup and I am interested in babysitting for neighborhood families. I am 17 years old and would be able to provide my own transportation. I charge 8 dollars an hour for the first child, plus 2 dollars an hour for every additional child. I am available during both the day and the evening in the summer, and evenings only during the school year. CLARA PENNINGTON Her parents are Allen and Patti Pennington, 817-731-4700 or 817-676-7037 Clara is a responsible teenage driver available for errands, house and pet sitting. Also an experienced holiday party hostess. NOTICE FROM RIDGLEA COUNTRY CLUB Sanford Green, President of Ridglea Country Club, has asked that we please remember that the golf course is for golf only. Walking, playing, and other activities are prohibited. Also, golfers are playing until dusk, this creates an increased potential for someone walking or playing on or around the course to be injured by a golf ball. The club has added "No Trespassing" signs around the perimeter of the course to remind non-members that the golf course is private property and is intended for the use of its members. Please remember that the golf course is a private country club, and that for your protection as well as the safety of RCC members, the golf course is for golf only. F ALL 2008 P AGE 11 DOGS AND CATS ON THE LOOSE Dogs running loose on Ridglea Country Club Drive have become a serious concern. (One dog had 5 cars stopped on RCCE Dr. while it ran back and forth and sometimes down the middle of this busy street.) People worry about these animals being hit and injured or killed. Walkers and joggers do not want these animals, no matter how cute and friendly, following them. The cities of Benbrook and Fort Worth by code require all dogs to be on leashes when outside their fenced yards. Fort Worth city code requires that "A cat must remain within the boundaries of its owner's yard". Also, please be aware that remains of a few cat’s and raccoons that were attacked by coyotes have been found in near the golf course bridges. So please be kind to yourselves, your pets, your neighbors, and the Pet Registry - KEEP YOUR DOGS ON LEASES. DO NOT ALLOW YOUR DOG TO RUN LOOSE ON BUSY NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS. ID YOUR PETS. Thank you ~ Laurie MacGregor, RCCEHA Pet Registry LITTLE LEAGUE Hello fellow RCCE baseball fans! RCCE PET REGISTRY REMINDER Please ID all pets, even the little pets that “never get out”. ID tags cost less than $8 each and enable pets to be returned quickly to their yards and owners. The quick return of lost pets saves much heartache and anxiety. Our pets have not developed the skills to survive in a world with coyotes and automobiles. In the RCCE this year, one cat and one dog have disappeared. These animals may have found new loving homes with people who do not know how to return the pets to the original owners. To register your pets with the Homeowners Association call: Laurie MacGregor at 817-731-1558 or e-mail: lauriemacgregor@sbcglobal.net We are encouraging all residents to include their pets in their Homeowners web page information.
