efficiency of the port facilities, reducing
the impact of the port activities
on the environment and enhancing
travelers’ comfort and safety, the Port
of Venice welcomed over the years
nearly 26,9 million passengers,
thus ensuring a prominent position
among the best worldwide cruise ports
and destinations.

a major player in the creation and
upgrade of cruise facilities as well as

CRUISES
The strategic location of the cruise
port - at the crossroad of the main road,
rail and air connections,
just a few steps away from the city’s
center - and considerable investments
in port infrastructure have allowed Venice
to become one of best homeports
of the world. Since its establishment
in 1997, over 19 million cruisers
from 200 countries transited through
V.T.P. facilities, enjoying the appeal
of Venice as tourist destination
and the major gateway to cruising
in the Adriatic and Eastern Med.
2013
HYDROFOILS
A wide array of daily journeys
to and from the Istrian peninsula
are available from April to October,

of Venice and destinations such as

Over the years, the city of Venice
has experienced an exponential growth
as a yacht destination. As well as an
ever increasing number of berthing
requests, the average size of the visiting
vessels has grown year after year.
Venezia Terminal Passeggeri S.p.A. has
therefore been putting forward ideas to
develop new berths and facilities as well
as looking to maintain and improve the
existing ones. Venice Yacht Pier S.r.l. was
founded with the principle objective of
facilitating the development of the yacht
industry in Venice by improving the city’s
berthing.
With the participation of its major
shareholder Venezia Terminal Passeggeri
S.p.A., the company is already putting
forward ambitious new development plans
for building the industry in the future.

MBT (Multipurpose Boarding Tower)
SBB (Ship Boarding Bridge)
The SBB (Ship Boarding Bridge),
designed as a traditional gangway, allows
passengers to board and disembark
from a ship with a boarding height ranging
from +4.70 m to +13.20 m
The complexity of managing a Passenger
Port with the need to introduce steady
innovation for optimizing operating
efficiency led Venezia Terminal
Passeggeri S.p.A to share its know-how
with the engineering industry
and to found the sister company
VTP Engineering S.r.l.
The sister company provides technical
consultancy to cruise ports in the fields
of planning, design and construction
of logistics infrastructures and equipment.
The first two prototypes of - the MBT
(Multipurpose Boarding Tower) and
the new SBB (Ship Boarding Bridge) are now operating at Venezia Terminal
Passeggeri’s facilities allowing a better
management of passenger flows while
granting a high level of comfort,
safety and security.
The MBT (Multipurpose Boarding Tower)
is an innovative multi-purpose boarding
tower that optimizes the embarking/
disembarking operations of passengers
from/to cruise ships, thanks to the use
of a system of elevators linking the dock,
the terminal and the vessel, regardless
of the height of the boarding ramp. Its
limited overall dimensions on the quay
allow to carry out luggage delivery
and handling operations in the safest way.
Main technical features
• Boarding or disembarking of over 2000
passengers/hour from terminal level
• Min/max boarding height:
+4.70 m ÷ +13.20 m
• Variable embarking height
on the terminal side
• User-friendly also for unaccompanied
passengers with reduced mobility
• Automatic leveling to the tide
• Ship security tracking devices and
protection of passengers if bridge
is accidentally detached from ship.
Main technical features
• Direct connection between Dock Terminal - Ship
• Dimensions on dock: 8.8 x 11.8 m
• Tower height of 18.2 m
• Movement along quay on rails
or on rubber wheels
• Boarding point: 4 to 13.2 m above
the dock level, also for ships with
outboard lifeboats
• Functions: movement of tower along
the dock; lifting of telescopic tunnel;
handling of boarding bridge
• 3 lifts holding 26 persons each,
for a flow of over 2000 people/hour
• Security check point on dock in case
of direct access to the ship from the quay
(or vice versa)
• User-friendly also for unaccompanied
passengers with reduced mobility
• Short walking paths and limited slopes
• Independent electricity generator
for total autonomy of the MBT in case
of loss of energy from the network (from
the Terminal)

PORT SAFETY ENVIRONMENT &
QUALITY
Venezia Terminal Passeggeri S.p.A.
has a strong commitment in the health
and safety of all those who visit, work
at or travel through its port facilities.
A First Aid Station is available within
the port premises, providing medical
assistance, an ambulance, defibrillator
and other medical equipment during
the operation hours. Venezia Terminal
Passeggeri S.p.A. steadily
and considerably invests in infrastructure
and technology to ensure that the port
operations are carried out in the safest
way and that all workplaces - quays,
passenger terminals, covered and
uncovered areas - are incident and injury
free.
The reorganization of the port road
network has upgraded the quality
of the internal traffic circulation both
in terms of traffic measures and access
controls, while the introduction of new
pedestrian pathways, the division
of the restricted operational areas
from the open visitors’ areas
and the increasing use of passenger
boarding bridges has improved
passengers’ safety and comfort when
boarding and disembarking. Venezia
Terminal Passeggeri S.p.A. is aware
that a safety culture can be established
and maintained only thanks
to the cooperation with the whole Port
community involved in the supply-chain
management and with the ships crews.
For this reason Venezia Terminal
Passeggeri S.p.A. promotes among
the Port users the implementation
of high safety procedures as well as
provides during periodical meetings
an overview of the risks and hazards
associated to particular tasks.
The engagement of Venezia Terminal
Passeggeri S.p.A. is not limited
to the safety; from its foundation
in 1997 the Company has been strongly
committed in reducing the impact
of the Port activities on the environment,
also adopting best practices in the
operations.
Working closely with local agencies,
the Port Authority and the Maritime
Authorities, Venezia Terminal Passeggeri
S.p.A. supports any effort to reduce
emissions in the atmosphere of both
noise and exhaust fumes, also promoting
the use of renewable or alternative
power resources.
Currently Venezia Terminal Passeggeri
S.p.A. has already implemented berths
providing power supply to maxi-yachts.

Thanks to its dimension of 14.000 square
meters divided on two floors, Terminal
109/110 is the widest cruise facility
of the Mediterranean with a standard
- never reached so far - of two square
meters of available surface for each
passengers waiting to embark during
the peak phases. Inaugurated in April
2014, Terminal 109/110, which formerly
was a warehouse, has been refurbished
to become an independent Passenger
station located in Tagliamento Quay,
in order to fluently serve a maximum
of two cruise ships simultaneously
berthed in front of Terminal 107/108
and in front of the renewed
Terminal 109/110, respectively.
From the technological systems
to the air-conditioning and the fire
systems, from the elevators
to the escalators, all the structural
refurbishment interventions have
followed a philosophy based
on energetic savings and eco
sustainability, emphasizing the industrial
archeology aesthetic, thanks to
its elegant and minimal furniture.
The embarkation and disembarkation
of passengers is safely carried out using
a Ship Boarding Bridge,
while the baggage handling benefits
from an innovative underground conveyor
belt system, delivering pieces of luggage
directly on the quay side.
