He was born on August 21, 1924 in
Pleasanton, Texas. He was preceded in death by
his parents, Joseph Kight Sr. and Nelle Davis
Kight, two wives, Billie Matthews Kight and Gayle
Brown Kight and one grandson, Michael Timon
Kight. He is survived by his son, Mike (Landy)
Kight of Georgetown and his stepchildren, Wanda
(Darrell) Bennett, of Harlingen, Sandee (Neil)
Morison, of Orlando, Florida and Margie Diller, of
Hinesville, Georgia, Wayne (Jodi) Pierce of Stephenville and numerous other family members to
include brother-in-law, Jerry (Janice) Matthews,
grandchildren and great grandchildren, special
nephew Robert Matthews and other nephews and
nieces. Joe was a retired conductor with the Missouri Pacific railroad and a proud survivor of Iwo
Jima and many other major battles that the Marines participated in during World War II in the
South Pacific. Joe was known for his love of animals and his gentle spirit. He was a volunteer at
the Marine Military Academy Iwo Jima Museum
since its opening in 1981. He was a 50 year member of the Chamberlain Masonic Lodge in Kingsville, Texas where he resided many years before
moving to Harlingen. His passion was Marine
history, Texas history, his animals and caring for
others. A special thanks to CIMA Hospice, Retama Manor, Dr. Leibert and his close friends from
the museum and academy who visited him often
during his illness.
A memorial service was held at Buck

McAllen War Memorial honors USMC, Airborne,
and all of our Troops from all Wars!
U.S. Ranger Col. (Ret) Frank Plummer was honored last year for his leadership and extensive work on
the McAllen War Memorial. Frank served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He’s meeting Dr. Bill Laney
here. The Doc is a cub reporter/photographer for The Iwo Jima Letter. Bill was a Field Surgeaon with the
32nf Infantry NG.
