Passengers spent $14.63 billion before, during, and after their trips, while crewmembers spent $1.27 billion in local destinations – all benefits that accrue to the global
economy. Cruise lines spent a total of $39.87 billion on goods and services worldwide
in 2014. Direct spending generated by the cruise industry created a ripple effect of an
additional $64.13 billion in global economic impact in 2014. Cruise industry spending
helped support 939,232 jobs and $39.34 billion in wages worldwide.

Total contributions of the global cruise industry to the U.S. economy grew 4.5 percent in 2014. On
average, overnight cruise visitors spent $258 prior to embarkation. Since 2000, direct spending by
cruise lines, passengers and crew has jumped 16 percent to $21 billion.
