As a group, we have emerged stronger from the crisis, thanks to our
highly qualified and committed workforce and continuous adaptation.
In order to improve the Group’s value-added chain still further
and be able to utilise synergies even more effectively, we will continue
to pursue and expand our site concept in Germany. Whenever
opportunities arise to strategically strengthen the Friedhelm Loh
Group via company takeovers, we will seize them. We will continue
to proactively explore new markets and to surprise our customers
with innovative, technologically pioneering products.
We identify new trends in the international markets and build them
into our strategy planning. China, for example, has become the
most important market for investment goods in the electrical and

electronics industry. Mindful of this fact, we will be investing
heavily in our Rittal plant in China so that we can continue to
satisfy the demands of the fast-paced Chinese market with highcalibre solutions. You will find us wherever our customers are!
The Friedhelm Loh Group is now active worldwide with 14
production sites, more than 60 international subsidiaries and 40
agencies. The owner-operated company group employs 11,500
people and generated revenues of about € 2.1 billion in 2011.

We create jobs ...
... for a secure future.
In keeping with this motto, since 1961 the success of our group
has been documented not only by its history, corporate culture and
dedication, but also primarily by facts that speak for themselves. For
example, a study by Manager magazine ranked the Friedhelm Loh
Foundation in 80th place in its list of the world's top market leaders.
A workforce of around 11,500 people in 11 German companies and
more than 60 international subsidiaries shares our commitment to
success. The Friedhelm Loh Group is a global player, and recognises that growth can only be achieved through innovation and a
consistent focus on international customers and markets. For this
reason, our products are manufactured in almost every continent, by
people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, and sold in well
over 100 countries. We uphold our corporate principles and embrace
everyone in our commitment to our goals.
FAMILY BUSINESS

INNOVATION LEADER
Through our growth and open corporate culture, we make an
important contribution to social security and inspire a sense of
community. This includes training young people, as well as encouraging employees in all professions to extend their qualifications.
In Germany alone, we have sent some 300 trainees on their way to
a successful future. We invest in our employees and inspire them
to explore new opportunities, both personal and professional, in
a growing company. The future belongs to those with knowledge
and vision, who are willing to implement them with hard work and
courage!

We accept responsibility ...
... for a worthwhile future.
“We are aware of our responsibility to the environment and society
in which we live.” This corporate principle translates into an obligation that we take very seriously, both within and outside of the
Friedhelm Loh Group.
We live this responsibility to our employees. For example, the
F.L.G. has pioneered forward-thinking company pension schemes.
This nationwide scheme encourages employees to plan for their
old age, something which many people do not think of until it’s
too late. Each year the Group’s companies distribute a generous
amount in voluntary benefits to employees, and promote their
quality of life with a wide range of measures.

The charitable Rittal Foundation is
dedicated to projects outside of the
Friedhelm Loh Group, providing
financial assistance to social and cultural institutions in the vicinity
of Rittal's sites in Germany as well as internationally. Friedhelm
Loh set up the charity in 2011 as part of the celebrations to mark
Rittal's 50th birthday, and got it off to a flying start with a donation
of five million euros.

The Loh Academy...
... cornerstone of our success.
Knowledge – ability – action: These are the cornerstones of a
successful future for the Friedhelm Loh Group.
Mindful of this fact, one of our corporate principles is:
“We recognise the correlation between skills and knowledge
development, motivation and company success. To that end, we
encourage and sponsor our staff in training and further education
and to share in the overall company success.”
In 2002, this conviction drove us to establish the Loh Academy as
the central organisation for training and knowledge management,
offering individual qualifications-building to F.L.G. employees.
FAMILY BUSINESS
14
INNOVATION LEADER
The activities of the Loh Academy are consistently aligned with the
corporate strategy. This allows us to systematically identify and
foster the skills and potential of our employees from an early stage.
The Loh Academy is therefore a major contributor to our broad
potential for knowledge and action. Modern tools and effective
teaching methods prepare our employees for future challenges,
creating the requirements for attractive careers.
In this way, the Loh Academy makes an important contribution to
our corporate success and safeguards our shared future!
More knowledge, ability and action.

Your local ...
... global player.
Our companies are strongly rooted in their local communities. We
feel a close connection with the people in the regions where we
operate, make a major contribution to their social security, and
promote community life in a variety of ways.
Our philosophy combines a down-to-earth approach with a
cosmopolitan flair. The Friedhelm Loh Group is a global payer,
mindful of the fact that growth in the world’s markets is achieved
through innovations coupled with an international customer focus.
Based on this, we have established more than 60 subsidiaries outside of Germany which have gone on to become very successful.
Many of our products are manufactured globally and successfully
sold in more than 100 countries around the world. Numerous highprofile and extremely successful global players from a wide range
of industries are among our enthusiastic customers. For many, we
are global single-source suppliers. We master this challenge with
an international network of production sites and logistics centres.

Environmental protection out of conviction ...
... for a vital environment.
Active environmental protection and the ecological orientation of
our production and distribution structures are firmly anchored in our
corporate principles. By acting consistently and investing in stateof-the-art technologies to preserve valuable resources, environmental protection is part of everyday life in the Friedhelm Loh Group.
With six combined heat and power plants and three photovoltaic
plants, the Friedhelm Loh Group has made a successful entry into
renewable energies, which now supply a major part of the thermal
energy demand in our production sites. The total energy consumption per product and of the buildings has been continuously
reduced. In this way, the Friedhelm Loh Group makes an important
contribution to reducing CO2 emissions in Europe.
An integrated management system, comprising
all the relevant areas such as quality, environmental protection, industrial safety and health
protection, ensures the lasting success of this responsible commitment by the Friedhelm Loh group. The results are truly impressive: Among other things, all of Rittal’s national and international
production sites and German delivery centres are certified to
EN ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. Additionally, Rittal has joined
forces with around 200 industrial companies in the Umweltallianz
Hessen (Hesse Environmental Alliance), an initiative dedicated to
the shared goal of preserving an intact environment for generations to come.
Permanently boosting energy efficiency.

Revolution:
Functional engineering.
As innovation leaders, we have teamed up with
our sister company Mind8 to develop design
techniques that will revolutionise engineering.
This led to the creation of the unique technology
behind the Eplan Engineering Centre (EEC),
defined by the terms mechatronic and modular.
This technology provides the basis for a new,
highly efficient, functional approach to engineering that allows you to save money while boosting
quality to the max.
The interdisciplinary Eplan platform is characterised by standardisation, integration and absolute
data consistency. With Eplan Electric P8
(electrical engineering), Eplan Fluid (fluid engineering), Eplan PPE (EI&C technology) and
Eplan Pro Panel (enclosure assembly), all facets
of engineering operate on a uniform database.
What is more, the openness of the Eplan
platform ensures integration into other system
landscapes and provides access to more than
250,000 component and equipment data from
various component manufacturers via
Eplan Data Portal in order to accelerate the
engineering process.

Intelligent solutions
for variant management.
Streamlining processes, keeping the product
portfolio manageable, controlling the proliferation
of variants; these are currently some of the main
concerns of most companies in the mechanical
and plant engineering sector. Many cite
the unresolved challenge of achieving consistent
integration of the technical and commercial
world. Additionally, companies face the challenge of evolving from a mechanically-oriented
company into a company with mechatronic
products and corresponding processes. Mind8
accompanies customers through this change
process, which gradually leads to an increased
modularity, standardisation and reuse.
This in turn releases resources for additional
innovations.

Holistic process design –
integrated IT solutions.
Together with our customers, we formulate specifications of the target processes and product
models, and find the optimum levers with which
to control and permanently reduce internal
complexity. For integrated IT support, we digitally
emulate the structures of the product portfolio
and relevant control knowledge, and link it to
other information. This allows us to link the technical and commercial worlds together.
Consequently, mechatronic variant management
from Mind8 not only reduces the complexity of
products, but also the complexity of internal processes: Mind8 creates consistency on the basis
of standard IT solutions (ERP, CRM, PDM, CAx),
so that known, predefined variants pass through
the organisation in a completely automated
fashion. This facilitates consistent configurations,
from sales through to commissioning.

The right technology
for your success.
Modern production technology, combined cut-towidth/cut-to-length plants, slitting plants and
shearing centres ensure perfect quality,
enhanced productivity and maximum process
reliability.
Our plant in Gera is home to one of the largest
and most modern blank cutting plants in Europe.
Equipped with a 10,000 Mpa press and a work
table of 4,750 x 2,750 mm, the plant processes
40 t coils into trapezoids, lozenges and large O5
blanks suitable for use as an outer skin. At the
same time, we take care of tool management
and tool storage. Your press capacity is optimised because you are able to start metalworking
directly in the first process stage, and you benefit
from reduced capital tie-up in your production
(lean production) and reduced scrap handling.

Our quality management system is based on
clear process operations that are transparent

standard of quality in all the materials used. Continuous monitoring subsequently accompanies
the entire production process; various control

Learning and creating
prospects for a successful,
shared future.
The knowledge and skills of our workforce are
pivotal to the success of our group of companies.
The education and training of our employees is
therefore particularly important.
Every career begins with solid training. With this
in mind, every year the F.L.G. offers numerous
young people a successful start to their careers
in a variety of professions. As well as practical
vocational training, the F.L.G. firmly believes in
linking theory and practice. The first step in this
process is the “LehrePlus” (Apprenticeship Plus)
scheme, which allows apprentices to complete
their vocational training and college qualifications at the same time. The F.L.G. is also one of
the co-initiators of “StudiumPlus” (Degree Plus),
the successful dual course which combines a
degree course at a technical university with a
practical vocational qualification.

training courses.
The Loh Academy provides employees and
managers at the F.L.G with a carefully tailored
range of training and development courses in the
areas of methodology, values, personal development, and social and leadership skills.
Alongside its regular curriculum, the Loh
Academy also collaborates with managers and
technical experts to devise customised, targetspecific solutions for the training and development of individual employees and entire departments, and sees them through to a successful
conclusion.
The “Forum” series of events at the Loh Academy provides a platform for the exchange of
ideas and innovative solutions, and in this way
contributes to the transfer of knowledge within
the Group.
The teaching methods are equally innovative.
As well as a comprehensive range of e-learning
courses, all training measures are also devised
with a view to blended learning.
