First, decide how much you want to contribute to the Spend, Save and Share boxes. For example, you might decide that 20% of your money will be saved, 2-5% will be shared and the rest may be spent. Write these percentages at the top of each column in your passbook. When you make each deposit, write down the date, calculate the deposit based on the percentage assigned for each box and add that amount to the previous total. See the example printed on the first page of the passbook. EXAMPLE The total deposit on January 2 is $10.00. We want to put 20% into savings so $10.00 X .20 equals $2.00. We want 3% for sharing so $10.00 X .03 equals $.30. The balance is for spending so $10.00 minus (2.00 plus .30) equals $7.70 Date deposit $ totals from previous page 1/02/03 $ 10.00 save 20 % $ 6.00 $2.00 $8.00 share 3 % spend 77 % $ 4.50 $0.30 $4.80 $ 11.50 $7.70 $19.20 pick up your moonjar from Remember to subtract any withdrawals from each box to keep an accurate account of the money.
