SEPA is a team of young, energetic yet experienced professionals have been doing useful activities, programmes and seminars for industry either alone or with other organisation. OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES OF SEPA • • • • • • To make the members aware of the latest developments / trends in the field of Engineering thru’ seminars, visits, circulars To organize seminars, symposia, workshops, conferences to promote and evolve technologies and develop business and management skills To be an effective link between technical institute and engineering industry To assist members in their profession related problems To develop business center providing technical database To develop technical library SURAT ENGINEERING VIKAS ASSOCIATION (SEVA) CLUSTER TARGETED BY SEVA 1. 2. Textile Machinery Manufacturers Cluster General Engineering Goods Manufacturers Cluster which includes the following two categories : A. Original Equipments Manufacturers making machineries and equipments B. Replacement Segments making components / spares for replacement. LOOKING THE CLUSTER, OTHER WAY Apparently two micro clusters are being targeted but virtually two large industrial cluster are being served. MICRO CLUSTER A-1 Textile Machinery B-1 General Engineering Machinery Mfg. A -2 B -2 MACRO CLUSTER Textile Industry General & Heavy Engineering Ind. SURAT ENGINEERING VIKAS ASSOCIATION (SEVA) A-1 TEXTILE MACHINERY MANUFACTURERS (MICRO / APPARENT CLUSTER) The Range of Textile Machinery manufactured & used (A) Pre-weaving machines like twisting, crimping, texturizing, crepe twisters, covering machines, wrapping machines, sizing machines. (B) Weaving machines like power looms/shuttle change looms, water jet/air jet/rapier looms, needle looms, knitting machines. (C) Post weaving machines like jet dyeing, spin dryer, stenter, loop ager, fabric printing machines. (D) Fabric value addition machines like embroidery machine, crushing machine, flock printing, dew drop printing, fabric laminations, fabric coating machine SURAT ENGINEERING VIKAS ASSOCIATION (SEVA) A-2 TEXTILE INDUSTRY CLUSTER OF SURAT (MACRO / REAL TARGET CLUSTER) In Surat, there are more than; 9 Lacs Power Looms, 450 plus Process houses, 50,000 Plus value added embroidery machines 5 million twisting spindles and its auxiliary machines. Texturisers Spinning units SURAT ENGINEERING VIKAS ASSOCIATION (SEVA) B-1 GENERAL ENGINEERING MACHINERY MANUFACTURERS CLUSTER • • • • • • • • Electric Motors Manufacturers Machinery structure fabricators Engineering workshops Gear Manufacturers Valve Manufacturers Die & Tool Makers Casting Foundries Plastic Component Manufacturers SURAT ENGINEERING VIKAS ASSOCIATION (SEVA) B-2 GENERAL ENGINEERING INDUSTRY (MACRO / REAL CLUSTER) Surat has also equally big Engineering, Chemical and Petro-chemical industrial base. Hazira belt alone has almost 1350 billion rupees investment which is likely to be doubled in next five years. Some of the major units are : ABG. DGVCL ESSAR GAIL GSEG GSPCL GUJ. GAS IOC KRIBHCO NIKO NTPC ONGC RELIANCE SHELL TORRENT SURAT ENGINEERING VIKAS ASSOCIATION (SEVA) DIFFICULTIES FACED BY CLUSTER UNITS • • • • • • • • • • • • The products manufactured in the units need appropriate inspection and quality control system at every stage of production in order to improve productivity and quality. Lack of awareness of the method and procedures for inspection of raw material. The entrepreneurs do not have drawings, designs of their products and other various technical parameters. The entrepreneurs adopt production process as per in-house facilities available instead of appropriate process resulting in inferior quality or costlier products. The user industries has no support from local engineering units for requirements for their spars which result in to huge outflow of foreign exchange and production losses due to breakdown. Low level of modernization & technology and No R & D Facilities. Low level of productivity due to inadequate formal training Owners do not have sufficient entrepreneurship skill Horizontal growth of textile engineering industries Insufficient exposure to export markets Inadequate product diversification and value addition Low quality and market compliances for international market, poor quality and workmanship of product SURAT ENGINEERING VIKAS ASSOCIATION (SEVA) DIFFICULTIES FACED BY CLUSTER UNITS • • • • • • • • • • Most entrepreneurs are in low/medium product range targeting local market only High price fluctuations in market realization Non-sharing of experiences with each other Lack of proper record keeping required for MIS and finance purpose. Most entrepreneurs are in low product range. Low value product against huge outflow on initial import and for replacement parts & exorbitant charges for parts. Not in position to support local textile units against large production loss due to non availability of parts. E.g. - All CNC machines needs servo motors which is not manufactured in our country. Brushless D.C. motors/Switch reluctance motors are not produced in the country. Large Engineering industrial units are not backed by Small And Medium Engineering Industries Base of required standards SURAT ENGINEERING VIKAS ASSOCIATION (SEVA) FACTORS NECESSITATING TECHNOLOGICAL INTERVENTION (SOME ILLUSTRATIVE POINTS) • • • • The magnitude of Import is very large which is evident from the fact that more than 50,000 embroidery machines have been installed in Surat alone in last few years costing more than 3000 crores. Huge foreign exchange outflow due to replacement of shuttle machines to water jet machine and rapier machine and yet large number of machines required which may result into increase in Import upto Rs. 50000 crore if such machines are not developed in country. Frequent and substantial production loss due to breakdowns. Large and unreasonable amounts charged for Spares and components of Imported machinery by original suppliers which results into outflow of huge foreign exchange. SURAT ENGINEERING VIKAS ASSOCIATION (SEVA) OBJECTIVES OF THE CLUSTER DEVELOPMENT PROJECT • • • • • • • • Up grading machinery manufacturing capacity up to international standard with the help of Prototype Development. Providing facilities, not available in local area. CAD – CAM Centre. Spare parts (import substitution) availability at lower cost. Quick availability of parts of Imported Machinery indigenously, to reduce production losses and breakdown. To upgrade the quality of ancillary units catering to the demand of Hazira belt Industries. Man Power Training Unit R & D activities related to cluster development SURAT ENGINEERING VIKAS ASSOCIATION (SEVA) LOCATION OF COMMON UTILITY CENTER SEVA is intending to start a “Common Utility Centre” at Plot No.160, GIDC Pandesara, Dist. Surat, which will provide DETAILS OF THE PROPOSED CLUSTER DEVELOPMENT PROJECT • • • • • • • Training Center Design Boutique Prototype Development Unit Heat Treatment Unit Testing cum Calibration Lab Laboratory Publication Activity` SURAT ENGINEERING VIKAS ASSOCIATION (SEVA) PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT {INTERVENTION} • (A) Training Unit • • • • Software Training on world class modules Man power / Workmen Training, Training for Quality Certification.
