LLCGA NEWS ARCHIVES 2014 LLCGA Annual General Meeting 26th November The Annual General Meeting was held at Wellington Park on Wednesday 26th November at 11am. The new County Captain is Mrs Brenda Flett (Rochdale) who replaced Mrs Jennifer Fallows. Mrs Ruth Cooper (Fairhaven) took over as County President from Mrs Angela Caton (Pleasington). Another Pleasington member Mrs Jennifer Adams became the new Vice Captain. Mrs Margaret Milne (Woolton + West Lancs) remains as the Hon Secretary. Mrs Delia Naylor (Royal Lytham) is the new Hon Treasurer taking over from Moyra Kenah (Hillside) and Mrs Sue Griffiths (Heron's Reach) is now the CJO with Anne Baines remaining as County Training Officer. County Champion Hollie Mews (West Lancashire) presented Jennifer Fallows and Angela Caton with flowers and thanked them for their work for the County including the team players. Catherine Roberts wins more 2014 England Golf Rose Spoons Catherine Roberts (Pleasington) has won more England Rose Spoons in the final 2014 competition. She won the Best Gross Score in July with her course record breaking score of seven under par and she has followed this up by winning the October Division 1 Nett Competition and once again the Best Gross Score, just three under par this time. This competition is open to all female players with a ‘Competition’ CONGU handicap, who are members of Golf Clubs affiliated to England Golf. In the months of April to October inclusive, a Silver Spoon will be given each month for the best nett score in any stroke play competition in relation to the LGU Scratch Score or USGA Scratch Score of the course, played in the following divisions: Division 1 up to 10 handicap. Division 2 11 to 20 handicap. Division 3 21 to 30 handicap Division 4 31 to 36 handicap 21 November 2014 Lancashire players Win in Barbados St Annes Old Links players Chris Appleby, Pat Vickers and Jackie Royal Birkdale's Ann Lowe (one from each Congu handicap division) team competing against the Rest of the World in the "Ryder Cup" style Golf League Season 11 Final played at some great venues in perfect matches all going into the final day. The St Annes Old Links players to the final match score of 15 - 9 to secure a European Victory. Halstead together with were part of a 12 strong European Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Swingers weather, the scores were level at 6 won all their matches to contribute Lancashire Union President 2015 Mr Tony McMunn from Lancaster Golf Club has been nominated as President of the Lancashire Union for 2015. He will take over in March from the current President David Eccleston. Tony has served on the Lancashire Union Board for 11 years and is LLCGAs Health & Safety Adviser. His wife Jane was our 2013 County Captain. 30 October 2014 West Indies Here We Come That is the message from a trio of lady golfers from St Annes Old Links. Chris Appleby, Pat Vickers and Jackie Halstead have qualified to represent Europe in the final of the Virgin Flying Club Swingers Season 11 competition in Barbados from Nov 10 13th. The trio, made up of one player from each of the handicap divisions, will play in a Ryder Cup style tournament for Europe against the Rest of the World. This is truly a global event and one to savour for the St Annes threesome. Twenty four golfers will be in action from all over the world including Australia, the United Stated and India. Chris, Pat and Jackie put their success down to the wonderful condition of St Annes Old Links this year, enabling them to play their very best golf in order to qualify. 27 October 2014 LLCGA Council Meeting The Annual Council Meeting was held at Wellington Park, Leyland today. It was chaired by the County Captain Mrs Jennifer Fallows. The Treasurer Mrs Moyra Kenah reported on the financial situation, Secretary Mrs Margaret Milne gave the Executive and Shield Committee Reports. Our Northern Regional Representative Miss Barbara Whiting gave a full report on England Golf and northern ladies' events. Vice Captain Brenda Flett ended the proceedings by giving a vote of thanks to the County Captain for the competent way she had chaired the meeting 12 October 2014 Family Fun Day at Royal Lytham Short Course A full field of Lancashire girls partnered by fathers, grandparents,brothers and friends enjoyed a Family Foursomes Day with 9 and 18 hole competitions keenly contested on Royal Lytham's Short Course in warm sunshine. Several of the girls were playing in their first LGGA event. This included Liyana Lahery (Blackburn) partnered by Sandra Saunders (Blackpool North Shore) who won the 9 hole competition with sister and brother combination Katy and Sam Burgin from Bacup GC finishing in second place. The 18 hole winners were Jessica Picton and her father Andrew (Hart Common) just ahead of another daughter and father pair, Lauren and Andrew McLauchlan from Formby Ladies' and Formby Hall GCs. LLCGA would like to thank Royal Lytham & St Annes for allowing this event to take place on their Short Course. 12 October 2014 England Golf's drive to inspire women and girl golfers England Golf has launched a drive to attract more women and girls to play the game and join golf clubs. It is being led by Lauren Spray, a Nottinghamshire County golfer, the new Women and Girls’ Participation Manager, who is herself a keen golfer and huge enthusiast for the game. photo courtesy of Leaderboard Photography 05 October 2014 Lancashire v Cumbria match A combined Lancashire A and Junior team travelled to Penrith to play a friendly match against Cumbria. Led byCounty Champion Hollie Muse the A team put in a strong finish to win their matches with Hannah Wilcox and Sophie Wood winning points for the Juniors to give Lancashire a final winning total of 5.5 points to 2.5. 03 October 2014 The Manning Plate The annual match keenly contested between the Lancashire Ladies' Executive and the Lancashire Union, played this year at Manchester GC resulted in the Manning Plate being won back by the Men's team when they defeated the Ladies by 3 matches to 1. The trophy was presented by Mrs Jenny Manning in 1953 when her husband was the Lancashire Union's President. 23 September 2014 Coronation Foursomes Final Accrington Golf Club's Lil Dykes and Val Robinson were one of the 16 couples from all over the British Isles who won through to the LGU Coronation Grand Final played on the Eden Course at St Andrews. They had achieved this by winning their club qualifying competition and then the North Region Final at Crewe GC in June. photo: LGU website 22 September 2014 Bronze Shield Final The Bronze Shield Final was played at Woolton GC , as the Semi-Finals were, in warm September sunshine. In another close and exciting match Shaw Hill beat the Rochdale Spinners by 3 matches to 2. It was a repeat of the 2012 Final when Shaw Hill also won and Anne Dunn beat Carole Kay at the 19th hole. This time she needed to chip in to do it. 19 September 2014 Hollie Muse unbeaten as England win Home Internationals England beat 2013 winners Wales on the last day of the Women's Home Internationals at Aberdovey GC to become this year's Champions after a count back of games won when they had finished on 4 points for 2 matches won with Ireland and Wales. Hollie Muse (West Lancashire) won her foursomes match with Gemma Clews (Cheshire) for the third day running. She also won her afternoon singles match against Samantha Birks by 3&1 to remain unbeaten in both the Women's and Girls' Home Internationals. 09 September 2014 Handicap Shield Finals Rochdale defeated Hindley Hall by 4 matches to 3 in an exciting Final at Davyhulme Park to win the Handicap Shield Trophy for the first time since 1995 and deny Hindley Hall a record 3 wins in a row. In the morning semi-finals Rochdale beat Pleasington by 5 matches to 2 and Herons Reach (making their first Finals Day appearance) just lost out to Hindley Hall when the deciding match finished at the 19th. All the matches were keenly fought on another sunny September day. 08 September 2014 Scratch Shield Finals Royal Birkdale beat Manchester in the Final of the Scratch Shield Trophy played at Clitheroe GC to take the trophy for the first time since 1962 In the morning semi-finals Royal Birkdale beat Pleasingon and Manchester defeated Royal Lytham. 04 September 2014 England Golf Gross Rose Spoon County player Catherine Roberts score of 67 (-7) playing in the Founders Trophy on her home course Pleasington has won her an England Golf Rose Spoon. This was the lowest gross score submitted from any woman golfer in England during July. 01 September 2014 Interclub Handicap and Bronze Trophy Finals Darwen Golf Club ladies won the Interclub Handicap trophy for the first time since 1991 when they beat Shaw Hill by one shot in the final that was played at Heysham Golf Club in warm sunshine. CSS 72 Qualifying Competition. Hurlston Hall Golf Club ladies won the Bronze Interclub trophy for the third consecutive year. This time by a margin of three Stableford points from Whalley. CSS 73 Qualifying Competition. 28 August 2014 Frances Smith Trophy won by Silverdale Silverdale GC represented by Trudy Hubbard won the Frances Smith Trophy at Bolton GC when she was the only player to return an under par score of 79-7-72. Pleasington's Susan Caton was runner-up with 74 nett beating Anne Robathan (Accrington) and Gill Holcroft (Hurlston Hall) on the card play off. 81 clubs were represented. SS 73 CSS 76 Qualifying competition. LLCGA would like to thank BMI Healthcare for their sponsorship and all the ladies who contributed to the raffle that raised £196 for our junior players' training and competitions. 22 August 2014 Lady Derby Trophy The winner of the Lancashire Handicap Tournament (Lady Derby) 2014 played atAshton-under-Lyne GC is Angela Birkenhead (Eccleston Park) who beat Alex Forrest (Longridge) on the 18th green in an exciting closely fought final. In the morning semi-finals Angela defeated Lauren Green by 3/1 and Alex beat Kate Ainsworth (Pleasington) by 2/1. 20 August 2014 Divisional Handicap and Bronze Shield Finals 11 August South West Division at Ellesmere GC Handicap: Hindley Hall 6 - Southport & Ainsdale 1 Handicap Shield holders Hindley Hall got off to a great start in defence of their title when Anne Lumsden had a hole in one on the first hole in her match. Hindley Hall will go forward to the County Handicap Shield Finals on 09 September at Davyhulme Park GC. Bronze: Hurlston Hall 3 - Ormskirk 2 Hurlston Hall will go forward to the Bronze Shield Semi-Finals on 15 September at Woolton GC. (Finals on 22 September at Woolton GC). 12 August East Division at Leyland GC Handicap:Turton 2 v Pleasington 5 Bronze: Pleasington 2 v Mytton Fold 3. Pleasington go forward to the Handicap Shield Finals. Mytton Fold go forward to Bronze Shield Semi-Finals. 13 August North West Division at Rossendale GC Handicap: Royal Lytham & St Annes 3 v Herons Reach 4 Bronze: Round Robin winners Shaw Hill Herons Reach go forward to the Handicap Shield Finals. Shaw Hill go forward to Bronze Shield Finals. 13 August South East Division at West Derby GC Handicap: Rochdale 4 v Ashton-under-Lyne 3 Bronze: Bolton Lostock 2 v Rochdale Spinners 3. Elaine Clark (Manchester) twice winner already of the Lady Derby trophy led the qualifiers with a fine 74-2-72, the only score under par, in the Lady Derby qualifying round at Bolton Old Links. Laura Johnson,on her home course and Susan Caton (Pleasington) were one shot behind her on a good scoring day. The 16 qualifiers that include sisters Maggie Ayres and Mary Nelson (The Lodge) will go on to the match play finals at Ashton-Under-Lyne GC on 21 + 22 August. CSS 74 qualifying competition. Bev Dodd takes over as County Golf Partnership Development Officer Bev Dodd, who has succeeded Iain Lancaster as Lancashire County Golf Partnership development officer, is committed to delivering a number of projects designed to attract more people into the game and encourage existing golfers to play more regularly. 04 August 2014 Lancashire win B Team match v Cheshire and Junior Match v Yorkshire The Lancashire B team played their annual match against Cheshire B at Vale Royal Abbey Golf Club, near Northwich. Although trailing after the morning foursomes the team came back strongly in the singles to win by one point. The Lancashire Junior team had a very good win against a strong Yorkshire Junior team in their match at Crompton & Royton Golf Club. Although the matches were in Yorkshire's favour after the first 9 holes our young players fought hard to win by one point. Congratulations to Captain Bet Burns and her Lancashire Senior Ladies' Team on winning the Richardson Trophy by being unbeaten in all their 2014 matches against the other five northern counties! 24 July 2014 Another Success for Accrington Golf Club Ladies Accrington lady members Lil Dykes and Val Robinson won the LGU Coronation Foursomes North Final at Crewe GC with 43 points in a field over 80 couples. They will play in the Grand Final at the Eden Course, St Andrews in September and enjoy two nights at the Old Course Hotel and a Gala Dinner. 23 July 2014 Pleasington Putter win for Gemma Clews On one of the hottest days of the year so far Gemma Clews (Delamere Forrest) won the Pleasington Putter with a score of 143 (-5) by one shot from home club player Brogan Townend who beat the first round leader Emma Goddard (Royal Liverpool) on the better second round. Royal Birkdale's Louisa Brunt took the Nett Aggregate Prize with 142. Round 1 CSS 74. Round 2 CSS 75 19 July 2014 North West Division Inter Club qualifier This was played at Leyland GC where Royal Lytham & St Annes with a total of 98 stableford points were the winners with Fleetwood in second place. These two clubs qualify to play in the Final at Heysham GC on 01 September. Other Clubs to Qualify: South West: Hurlston Hall and Huyton & Prescot. South East:Saddleworth, Oldham and Rochdale. East: Dunscar and Whalley. 17 July 2014 Gemma Batty loses at 24 hole in Northern Ladies Championship Semi-Final Gemma Batty (St Annes Old Links) the only Lancashire survivor in the Northern Ladies' Championship at Eaglescliffe GC, County Durham lost her semi-final match against Alison Knowles, a former Northern Ladies' Champion from Hickleton GC at the 6th extra hole. Yorkshire player Megan Garland went on to win the title when she beat Alison at the 20th hole. 14 July 2014 Scott Leggatt trophy goes to Accrington Golf Club The Scott Leggatt Foursomes trophy was won by Jackie Snowden and Carol Simpson with 38 stableford points when the final round was played at Formby Ladies' GC. Home players Gill Nutter and Annette Hough set the pace and led until late in the day when they were overtaken by the Accrington players. Hurlston Hall's Gill Holcroft and Irene Traynor were third. This is the second major trophy to have been won by Accrington ladies this year. In June Terena Fleck won the Manchester and District's Bunty Booth Competition, their Centenary Trophy, that was presented to the Association by Miss Booth, a past President, always known as "Bunty". Ana Dawson wins Isle of Man Ladies Championship Ana Dawson, LLCGA County Team member won the Isle of Man Ladies' Championship played on her home course Peel during last week. 13 year old Ana led the 16 qualifiers. In the quarter finals she eased past Breeshey Jansen by one hole before beating cousin Kayleigh Dawson in the semi-finals. In the 36 hole final against Shirley Glover she won by 8/7. 8 July 2014 Yorkshire couple win North Region Australian Spoons Final The North Region Final of England Golf's Australian Spoons was played at Swinton Park GC for couples from the six northern counties. The winners were Celia Fowler and Pat Benson from Harrogate GC. They will play in the Final to be played during the County Finals at Belton Park GC, Lincolnshire in September. Fifteen couples from Lancashire qualified for this regional final with Angela Carus and Sharney Catlow from Townley GC finishing third with 36 points, two behind the winners. The Australian Spoons were presented to the four British home golf associations by theAustralian Ladies' Golf Union in 1966. It is played as a foursomes stableford for players with handicaps of 15 to 36. 08 July 2014 Lancashire County Golf Partnership changes Iain Lancaster is stepping down as Lancashire CGP Development Officer to take over as England Golf Regional Manager for Lancashire, Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire. He succeeds Sean Hammill who left in May. Iain's successor will be Bev Dodd from Rossendale GC, their volunteer junior development organiser. In 2013 she won the England Golf Volunteer Coach of the Year award. Contact details remain the same for the two positions. CGP and Get into Golf activity will continue as normal. 04 July 2014 County Match Week 2014 After a tense last day Lancashire finished second in the final table for County Match Week following a "points count back" with both Yorkshire & Cheshire. All three teams had won 4 matches and lost 1 out of 5 but Yorkshire's final points total of 34 beat Lancashire into second place with 30.5 just 1/2 a point ahead of third placed Cheshire who had 30. We send our congratulations to the Yorkshire team and wish them good luck in the County Finals at Belton Park GC in September. 01 July 2014 Beth Garton through to Ricoh British Championship Final Qualifying A fine round of 71(-1) at The Berkshire GC earned Bethany Garton (Royal Lytham) a place in the Final Qualifying Round for the Ricoh British Women's Championship to be played at Southport & Ainsdale GC before the main Championship starts at Royal Birkdale GC on 10 July. 26 June 2014 Pleasington win Inter Club Scratch Shield Pleasington GC's team of Brogan Townend, Catherine Roberts, Hollie Vizard and Jeannette Williams won the Scratch Inter Club Trophy at Manchester GC with an excellent total of 223, one over par (3 out of 4 scores to count. Royal Birkdale and Manchester Golf Clubs tied for second place with 241. CSS 76 18 June 2014 LLCGA Fourball Team Competition at Pleasington Teams of four came from all over Lancashire to play in the LLCGA Fourball Team competition at Pleasington GC on one of the hottest days of the year. It was a very exciting afternoon with two holes in one. County Captain 2012 Val Moran (Formby Ladies) was the first at the 8th hole closely followed by Liz Coverdale (Blackpool North Shore) at the 10th hole. Three Lancaster players Brogan Calvert, Jill McGhie and Jackie Pye with Emma Cobley (Morecambe) led for most of the afternoon before Pleasington's Lady Captain Beth Brown, Catherine Roberts, Susan Caton and Kim Roberts came in near the end with the winning score of 83 points. LLCGA would like to thank the competition sponsor BMI Beardwood Hospital for their support. 12 June 2014 Divisional Ladies' Championships Bury and District Championship Rachel Scholes (Harwood) is the new Bury and District Ladies' Champion. She beat her mother Dot by 2/1 in a closely fought final at Walmersley GC that was interrupted by a thunderstorm. Bolton In the Final at Championship Great Lever & Farnworth GC Laura Johnson (Bolton Old Links) came back from dormy three down to defeat her club mate Carol Helme, the Lancashire Senior Ladies' Champion, in a wonderfully exciting match. In the semi-finals Laura beat Grainne Pendlebury (Bolton) and Carol defeated eight times Bolton Champion and another Bolton Old Links player Helen Braddock. 11 June 2014 Elsie Corlett Summer Meeting 13 year old Carina-May Teirney (Crompton & Royton) was allowed to take a day off from her school and won the Elsie Corlett Summer Meeting at a sunny Knott End GC with a 64 nett, seven below par. Second Nett: Natalie Dobson (Lee Park) 72. 06 June 2014 Scott Leggatt Divisional Finals 37 Lancashire clubs will be represented by 49 couples in the County Final at Formby Ladies' GC on Monday 14 July. The trophy was presented by Mrs Scott of Formby Ladies' in 1952 in memory of her friend Hilda Leggatt who was the LLCGA Treasurer from 1914 to her death in 1951. 02 June South West at Hillside GC Results ... Winners: L Calderbank and A Sutcliffe (Lancaster) 34 points. 01 June 2014 Second half-term competition for girls Lancashire's new golfers aged from 6 upwards completed a busy half-term week. After Thursday's Card Marking Day at Royal Lytham Short Course many of them were playing again at the LGGA Hart Common Competition Other girls in the north of the County were attending an Under 14s Regional Training at Heysham with PGA Professional Ryan Done. 31 May 2014 2 holes in one in the same round for Pat Smart Pat Smart, playing in a Captain's Prize qualifier at Lytham Green Drive GC holed in one not once but twice. The first one came at the 6th hole and the second at the 13th. Neither she nor her partner Marie Anderson saw the ball go in the hole but realised each time from the tee that the ball would be close. Pat who plays off a handicap of 11 is a past Lady Captain of Lytham Green Drive. 29 May 2014 Lancashire Team for County Match Week Hollie Muse (West Lancashire) the County Champion will lead the Lancashire Team at County Match Week at the Northumberland GC from 29 June to 04 July. New "Caps" are Louisa Brunt (Royal Birkdale), Georgia Coughlin (Fairhaven) and Ana Dawson (Peel). Cori Lee (Rossendale) is unable to take her place in the team due to work commitments. 29 May 2014 County Championship at Clitheroe Golf Club Hollie Muse (West Lancashire) won the 2014 Lancashire Ladies' Championships when she beat the 2005 and 2007 winner Cori Lee (Rossendale) by 5 & 4. Hollie had 5 birdies including finishing with a 2 on par 3 14th hole. At the age of 14 years and 7 months Hollie, a junior England international, becomes the youngest Lancashire Champion. Semi Finals: Cori Lee beat Sophie Lamb 1 hole Hollie Muse beat Brogan Townend 1 hole. In the Flight 2 Final Sophie Powell (Manchester) beat Laura Johnson (Bolton Old Links) by 4 & 3. Semi Finals:Laura Johnson beat Lauren Oakely 3/2 Sophie Powell beat Nikki Foster 3/1. Laura Johnson had her 5th hole in one at the 8th hole. Full results on County Championship page. 28 May 2014 LLCGA Officials for 2015 The Captain and President have much pleasure in announcing the following Appointments for 2015. County Vice Captain: Mrs Jennifer Adams (Pleasington). County President: Mrs Ruth Cooper (Fairhaven). They will come into office with Mrs Brenda Flett as County Captain at the LLCGA AGM on Wednesday 26 November. 21 May 2014 England Golf North Region Medal Final Lancashire's Louisa Brunt representing Ashton-under-Lyne and Roanne Tomlinson from Haydock Park will join Hazel Sellars (Mytton Fold) who recently won the Midlands North qualifier, in the England Golf Grand Medal Final at Peterborough Milton GC on 28 June. Louisa, an England Under 16 Junior International and Roanne the current County Junior Champion finished in 3rd and 5th places in a low scoring competition at Houghton-LeSpring GC, County Durham. Judith Parkinson (Lansil) was unlucky to finish outside the top ten qualifiers with her level par round of 73, the same as the CSS for the day. 06 May 2014 Mytton Fold's Hazel Sellars wins England Golf Medal Final qualifier Hazel Sellars led 10 qualifiers for the England Golf women’s Grand Medal Final when she won her regional final by three shots. Scores ... Hazel scored net 69 – four under par - at Shrewsbury to lead the 10 qualifiers from the Midlands North Region Medal Final. “I’m shaking, it’s so exciting,” she said. The majority of Lancashire players will compete in the Northern Medal qualifier at Hoghton-le-Spring GC, County Durham on 21 May. All the regional finalists returned the best four scores at their club in the England Golf Medals during 2013. Hazel, who was playing off a handicap of 31, is a former hockey player who took up golf five years ago. “I am so pleased I have found something I really enjoy doing, I just wish I had started sooner,” she said. 05 May 2014 Kelly Tidy returns to LET Access Tour Kelly Tidy made a successful return to the LET Access Tour after injury problems when she finished second in the Association Suisse de Golf Ladies Open. Her birdie on the 18th forced a sudden death playoff against her ex Curtis Cup friend Amy Boulden who won on the 6th extra hole when Kelly incurred a penalty shot by driving into a hazard that was an enviromentally sensitive area. 04 May 2014 Sophie wins Girls' Fairhaven Trophy again Two outstanding sub-par rounds of 71 + 70 ensured that Sophie Lamb (Clitheroe) retained the Girls' Fairhaven Trophy with a total of 291 (-9) the lowest ever recorded girls' total and third place overall. Hollie Muse (West Lancashire) finished with an eagle to ensure a comfortable Girls' runners-up spot. England Team 4 that included Hollie won the Nations's Cup on a great day for Lancashire. Hollie Vizard leading Lancashire player in Welsh Open Stroke Play Hollie Vizard (Pleasington) finished as the leading Lancashire player in the 54 hole Welsh Ladies' Open Stroke Play Championship played at Prestatyn GC in North Wales. She finished in equal 24th place with a score of 228 (3 over par) 27 April 2014 5 Lancashire players make the cut in the Scottish Helen Holm Sophie Lamb (Clitheroe) finished as the best placed Lancashire player in the international field contesting the "Helen Holm" 54 hole Scottish Open Stroke Play Championship after a final level par round on the Old Course at Royal Troon, with Hollie Muse (West Lancashire), Hollie Vizard (Pleasington), Sophie Powell (Manchester) and Emma Harris (Peel) all close behind her. 18 April 2014 Northern Foursomes at Ringway Golf Club Bev Scholes (Rochdale) and Jane Antrobus (Oldham) lost at the 19th in the semi-finals of the England Golf Northern Foursomes at Ringway GC to Marjorie Griffiths and Judith Wainwright both home club members who beat Louisa Brunt and Anna Lomas (Ashton-under-Lyne) in the quarter finals. Chris Appleby and Sarah MacNamara (St Annes Old Links) lost in this round to another Ringway couple. The subsidiary Stableford Competition was won by Haydock Park's Sandra Woodcock and Ann Ankers with 37 points. 13 April 2014 Lancashire Lads defeat the Lancashire Lasses The annual match between the Lancashire Men's and Ladies' teams played this year at Morecambe GC was won by the "Lads" by 7.5 matches to 4.5. The morning foursomes were shared but three singles points going to the Men's team on the 18th green helped them to win the Trophy back from the Ladies' team, held by them since 2011. 13 April 2014 Roehampton Gold Cup win for Emily Taylor Emily Taylor now a LET Tour professional and past County Champion won the 36 holes Roehampton Open Gold Challenge Cup with a four under par total of 140. Her first round 68 was the lowest round of the day. She followed this with a level par round. This annual event is open to professionals and amateurs. 12 April 2014 The Bury & District Golf Association Annual Ladies' Dinner The County Captain Jennifer Fallows was invited to attend the annual dinner of the Association, which this year was held at Walmersley Golf Club. It is a mixed Association and comprises eight clubs in the Bury area and holds a Ladies' Championship and other events during the year. 06 April 2014 Youth prevails in Professionals, Ladies and Girls Team Event The 9 Professionals, Ladies and Girls teams needed a card-play off to determine the winners in the annual competition played this year at Hesketh GC. The winners were Ladies' European Tour player Emily Taylor, Hollie Muse (West Lancashire) and Sophie Wood (Pleasington) with a combined age of 43. Jack Senior, Beth Garton (Royal Lytham & St Annes) and Lea Dawson (Peel) were the runners up with both teams having 85 stableford points. 05 April 2014 Formby Leveret Trophy 2014 Hollie Vizard (Pleasington) had to settle for the runners-up spot for the second year running when she finished one shot behind England International Alex Peters after rounds of 72+71, one over par for the day. The event attracted a high class entry with competitors coming from all over England and Wales. 24 March 2014 At Pinehurst, North Carolina, USA Jenna Birch from Fleetwood, Lancashire, a third-year student at Armstrong Atlantic University, has scored another win on the United States women's college circuit. 27 February 2014 Lancashire County Golf Partnership Launched 200 delegates from over 70 Lancashire golf clubs along with many PGA members attended the launch of the newly formed partnership between the LLCGA, Lancashire Union and the PGA at Bolton Old Links Golf Club today. After a welcome from Chairman Tom Cuttill the aims of the CGP to boost golf participation and club memberships in Lancashire were outlined by Iain Lancaster, County Development Officer and Sean Hammill, England Golf Regional Development Officer. represented England Golf, Andy Leigh the Golf Foundation and Beth Kay from Lancashire Partnership gave details of further funding that can now be accessed. Paul Keeling Sport 14 January January 2014 North West Under 16s England Golf Report - Jane McMunn The North West England Golf Training for Under 16 Girls is now over half way through the winter programme. Six girls were selected - 3 from Lancashire - Louisa Brunt, Ana Dawson and Lauren Green and 3 from Cheshire - Lucy Jamieson, Freya Johnson and Bel Wardle. The Coach is Steve Astle from the East Midlands Golf Academy and I am the Regional Manager. The girls have had tuition on the short game on a group basis and also as a one to one with Steve. The emphasis has been to make practice enjoyable as well as helping to improve. The psychological side of golf is covered and a Strength and Conditioning Coach Nick Jones has been brought in to improve the girls' physical abilities. The last session included preparation for the forthcoming season by the girls individually looking at what they consider the areas they can improve on. They have also been asked to prepare their schedule of events for the year and to categorise them in order of importance. One practice match has been played against the Under 16s girls from West Midlands Squad which was won by the North West Girls. Another match is currently being organised against the Lancashire Ladies' in February. The girls will have further training sessions with Steve which will also include preparation for the big tournaments. The girls are a very happy group who are also serious about their golf but can also have fun at the same time. I look forward to seeing their achievements this year. 11 January 2014 County Golf Partnership appoint Regional Development Officer Lancashire County Golf Partnership have appointed Iain Lancaster as their Regional Development Officer. He has previously worked for Pendle Leisure Trust, the Spirit Health Club in Runcorn and recently for a cycling charity in Warrington. The Lancashire CGP's aim is to increase and widen golf participation for players of all ages in the County. England Golf Regional Development Officer Sean Hammill has replaced Melanie Flude as Lancashire's England Golf Regional Development Officer. 27 November 2013 LLCGA Annual General Meeting The LLCGA Annual General Meeting was held at Wellington Park, Leyland on Wednesday 27 November. Mrs Jennifer Fallows (Manchester) took over from Mrs Jane McMunn (Lancaster) as County Captain for 2014, with Mrs Brenda Flett (Rochdale) becoming Vice Captain and Mrs Angela Caton (Pleasington) starting her last year as County President. Mrs Margaret Milne (Woolton & West Lancshire) was appointed Hon Secretary, with Mrs Delia Naylor (Royal Lytham) as her Assistant. Mrs Moyra Kenah (Hillside) was elected Hon Treasurer, Mrs Carole Brown has replaced Mrs Carroll Ashton as a County Handicap Advisor. 16 December 2013 Lora's Chilli Dip VIP Day LLCGA Head Coach Lora Fairclough and the Chilli Dip Driving Range, Blackrod, hosted a VIP Day for Lady Golfers. Pauline Turner, Sales Director of motor company Chorley Group presented their sponsorship cheque to County Captain Jennifer Fallows. Lora gave free tuition to any lady golfer or beginner and a raffle raised £170 for the Rosemere Golfers Against Cancer Foundation. Lora is a Patron of this charity founded by Keith McIntosh who was there to lend his support.
