From The President’s Desk
Great things continue to happen at Santiago Canyon College!
Although Santiago Canyon College (SCC) is one of the newer
institutions of higher learning in California, tens of thousands of
students already have discovered the high quality of education
available at SCC. If you ask our students what they like about SCC,
they’ll tell you that they get personal attention from faculty who are
leaders as professors and scholars. Expert counselors provide the
guidance necessary to move students ahead as quickly as possible.
Caring staff members and administrators work hard to help students
reach their goals. Together, the people of SCC are dedicated to the
success of students.
SCC provides clear pathways for university transfer and career
technical education. Classes and programs are available in a wide
variety of areas, including transfer, career technical and basic skills.
With over 150 certificate and degree programs, plus multiple
transfer agreements with four-year universities in California, SCC is
the right fit for you.
Since SCC achieved independent accreditation in 2000, the campus
has been transformed. Students attend classes, study, practice,
perform experiments, rehearse, and collaborate on a campus where
even the architecture points to the future. The changes are visible in the Science Center, the Humanities
Building, the Lorenzo A. Ramirez Library, and the Athletic and Aquatics Center, all of which help to meet the
educational needs of our community.
On behalf of the faculty, staff and administration, I invite you to find out why attending Santiago Canyon
College empowers you to seek the opportunities you deserve and desire, right here, right now.
Best Wishes,
John Hernandez, Ph.D.
Interim President

Programs
International Student Program (ISP)
The International Student Program (ISP) mission is to enhance students’ cultural as well as
educational experience while enrolled at SCC. In partnership with staff, faculty and administration,
we are striving to ensure that our students are enriched academically, socially and culturally and
that in the process, we will make a significant contribution to cross-cultural understanding. ISP also
addresses the needs of international students enrolled at SCC by providing information regarding
U.S. Department of Homeland Security (USDHS) rules and regulations. Admissions, academic and
personal counseling is also available. Upon admission and arrival in the U.S. all international students
are tested for placement. Test scores will determine a student’s placement into credit courses or the
English Language Program.
English Language Program (ELP)
International students may directly enroll for only ELP classes. We do issue ELP specific F-1 I-20’s.
SCC’s English Language Program (ELP) is an intensive English program that prepares students
for study at U.S. colleges and universities. The program is designed for students who have some
knowledge of English. ELP which is both TOEFL-preparatory and academically oriented, conducts
sessions throughout the year. Each session consists of 20-24 hours of instruction per week.
Helpful Information

can also participate in Associated Student Government, the Student Leadership Institute, athletics
and many other educational and social activities sponsored by the Student Life & Leadership office.
