Chattaaooga Symphony sent their string quintet to play for our K-2 grade
students.
November 3'd - CHS Leadership Class came and spent time with some of our students.
These students will be working on several projects with out students throughout the year.
November 3'd - Fall Festival- The halls were full of food. fun and excitement for the
whole family. PTO did an excellent job sponsoring our annual Fall Festival.
November 4'n - Staff Development- Teachers spent the day developing our SIp, sharing
effective strategies with each other, and exploring a new technology program that will
help with curriculum planning and the implementation of Common Core.
November 9th - Cleveland- Bradley Chamber of Commerce Job Shadowing ActivityNine high school students spent four hours in a classroom with the teacher and students.
It was exciting to have these future teachers in our building.
November l lth - 13s - CHS presented their fall play in our auditorium. We enjoyed
having them with us and look forward to future projects together.
November 15th - Leadership cleveland came to tour our building. we were able to share
with these community leaders all of the wonderful and exciting things that are happening
at Amold Memorial.
November 17fr - Thanksgiving Lunch- We had over l7l guests join us for Thanksgiving
Lunch. A special thanks to Mrs. Bass and Mrs. Harden and her staff for makins thiJ event
possible.
November l8th - Amold's Fall Production of Holka polka. Students in grades 3-5 under
the direction of Mr. Moss and Mrs. Pollard entertained us and shared their wonderful
talent. Paxents, family manbers and friends enjoyed the evening performance.
November 21"t - Career Day- Members of the community came to our school to share
information about their careers. Each class had four different speakers in their classroom.
A special thanks to Kathleen Wilson for organizing this experience for our students.
November 30th - 5th Grade Field trip to Lee University- Students spend the day on Lee's
campus leaming about fields of study and future opportunities available for students.

Our staff enjoyed a wonderful Staff Development Day on Friday, November 4th.
The staffworked with individual student test data and on math station
implementation.
2) Our Parent Advisory Board met on Tuesday, November gth. The group gave input
on our current school improvement plan.
3) Our 3'd grade students visited Cleveiand State Community College on
Wednesday, November 9'n to encourage them to begin thinking about continuing
education.
4) Blythe-Bower hosted Family Reading Night on Thursday, November l0th.
5) Our annual Veterans' Day Program was on Friday, November l lth. We had
several family members in attendance and enjoyed a special aftemoon celebrating
our veterans.
6) Qur 4h and 5th grade students presented the Thanksgiving musical My Town, My
lltorld onTuesday, November l5'n. The performance was outstanding.
7) Our parents were welcomed to Blythe-Bower on Thursday, November lTth for
National Parent Involvement Day. we had many parents that stopped by to spend
from 2 to 3 PM completing activities with their children.
8) Our parents were invited for Time In for parents on Friday, November lgth, and
several heard a presentation from the Blythe-Bower Counseling Department.
9) our school offered flu shots to families through coordinated School Health and
CVS Pharrnacy on Friday, November 18th.
l0) Progress Reports were sent out to parents on Friday, November I gth.
1l) our staff was very thankirl for the Thanksgiving Break and for the opportunity to
work with the students of Blvthe-Bower.

The Cleveland High School Girls Soccer Team had members chosen to be on the
All Region Team for the 2011 season. Congratulations to the students selected
for the first team: Kaitlin Poulakis and Hannah Ellis. Congratulations to the
students selected for the second team: Leanne Indovino, Megan Barker, Bailey
Ellis, Alex Hutt, and Jenna Scoggins.

For the 45th consecutive year, the Cleveland HS Band was the musical backdrop
for the Cleveland/Bradley Co. Veteran's Day Ceremony held on the steps ofthe
County Courthouse. Band selections included "Songs of America,', " Marches of
America," and our National Anthem. "Taps" was played by Jessica Reinher and
Melissa Goncalves. Mayor Tom Rowland, Congressman Kevin Brooks, and Lee
professor Jim Burns all expressed their appreciation for the band,s presence and
performance.
The Varsity Basketball Squad was asked to perform at Lee Universitv's
homecoming basketball game on November 5th.
The Cleveland High School Art Dept. and it's passionate artists had their 3'd
Annual Art Show on November 29 in the Library. The show included a variety of
art media and we welcomed the whole community in the celebration.
The Ride premieres on Versus Channel on Sunday,s at 3:30. The Ride follows CHS
Senior Chad Voytik throughout his senior football season, Make sure to check
out Chad, CHS Football and Cleveland City Schools featured on the show.
chad Voytik will be honored on December 7 in the cHs Library for his selection in
the Army All-American Game. Chad will play the East's quarterback in this
prestigious game in January.

Senior Camden Bell was selected to play in the Marine Corps Semper Fidelis All
Star Game in Tempe, AZ.
Kaitlyn Poulakis signed a soccer scholarship with Tennessee Weslevan on
November 17 in the CHS Library.
Senior DJ Bowles was chosen as the number one player to Watch in Boys
Basketball by the Chattanooga Times Free press.
honored 30 Veterans at this year's Veterans Day program. This year,s guest
speaker was CHS Engineering teacher, John Hunter. CHS Choirs, led by Shirley
Pace and Rodney Gipson, sang patriotic songs. State Representative Kevin Brooks
presented two flags: U.S. Flag and TN State Flag to principal Autumn O,Bryan.
Camden Bell, senior Tight End for the Cleveland High School football team, has
been selected to play in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl presented by
JuniorRank Sports and the United States Marine Corps. Camden will travel to
Phoenix Arizona and play in this East v. West match up on January 3, 2012. The
game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network and will start at 4:00 p.M. MST.
CHS
One hundred of the nation's elite high school football players will face off in a
traditional East versus West gridiron match up, showcasing athletes who
embody the USMC values of honor, courage and commitment. The Semper
Fidelis All-American Bowl selection committee is composed of college recruiting
experts and scouts from around the country. The selection committee chairman
is renowned recruiting analyst Tom Lemming, who is involved in the selection of
every player. Camden was selected as a long snapper for this game. Many
Chattanooga area athletes were considered for this event by participating in
JuniorRank camps throughout this year.

CLEVELAND MIDDLE SCHOOL HOSTS
PIZZA AND PREVENTION FAMILY NIGHT
On Tuesday, November 8tl Cleveland Middle School partnered with the GITAAB
Coalition (Going Respectfully Against Addictive Behaviors) to present a "Pizza and
Prevention" Family Night. The family night focused on bullying, drug prevention, peer
pressure and personal safety. Families enjoyed dinner provided by Stevie B's followed by an
introductory session on bulllng lead by Joyce Vanderpool ofthe GRAAB Coalition.
Emphasis was placed on the importance of family in the lives ofchildren, and the connection
between bulllng abuse as a child, and the potential for future alcohol and drug use,
depression, and even suicide. Next, students participated in a presentation by Officers
Jennifer McKee and Brian Stovall ofthe Cleveland Police Departrnent on radKIDSo, a
personal empowerment safety education program that enhances the ability of children and
parents to utilize knowledge, skills, and power to protect themselves from violence and harm.
While children were with the officers, a program was presented to the parents by pete
Vanderpool ofThe Santa Project. He emphasized the hazards ofbullying, both physical and
emotional, but placed great emphasis on cyber bullying, a problem ofepic proportions
coming out ofcell phone usage and social media sites like Facebook and MySpace.
Cleveland Middle School's goal for the Pizza and Prevention Family Night was to
provide families with information about raising responsible, resilient children in an effort to
keep CMS a positive place for leaming. A survey of parents that attended the CMS Family
Night showed that an overwhelming majority of parents (91%) feel that CMS is a safe place
for their child to learn. CMS has taken a proactive stance against bullying with a program
called STAND for Change, an anti-bullfing campaign that began at CMS during the 2010201I school year. The anti-bulllng campaign is still in motion this year with weekly
broadcasts on the school's student lead TV program, WCMS. Each broadcast features an
anti-bullying topio and is followed by classroom activities and discussions between students
and teachers. CMS is taking a positive approach to creating a safe and successful school
environment for "Everv child. E
The 6'n grade silver team took a trip to the TN Aquarium on Thursday, November 3d.
The trip was a great hands-on method to help students leam the following science

Students participated in a food drive for the United Way. E.L. Ross collected over 1200 food items to
contribute.
Children's author Chris Rumble visited students at E.L. Ross. Each class had the opportunity to attend
his reading pep rallies and writing workshops. We also hosted an evening performance and book
th44\s to oq1 PTO for funding his visit.
Third grade teachers have been busy planning class rotations to teach Christmas Around the World
lessons.
Ms. Estrada's class has been studying different types of writing. As they leamed about writing to give
directions, each student created a recipe for a holiday dish, and the class compiled the recipes to make a
book to present to their families.
Stephanie Stone's students have been analyzing their own academic performalrce data and have set goals
for themselves. They have shared these goals with their parents during studenlled conferences. This is a
great way to get students engaged in their own progress.
Students of the Month were honored with an ice cream sundae party. The word of the month was
perseverance.
Ms. Estrada's class completed projects in which students designed their own insects. They wrote
telling about the insect's habitat, survival, special features, etc.
Stephanie Stone's students eamed an ice-cream party reward for meeting the challenge ofEVERY
student memorizing ALL of their multiplication facts (without using calculators).
All fourth graders visited the Museum at Five Points for the Appalachian Days exhibit. They made
butter, played Appalachian games, examined artifacts, and morel
Mrs. Bianucci's cDC class demonstrated how to use simple machines, including using an apple
peeler/corer to prepare apples for apple pies. The students also made pumpkin pies and made graphs to
show which pie was the favorite.
The Enrichment students created their own planets using parts ofobjects from nature. The assignment
was to create a living environment and relate the texture of the object to an environment for criatures
to
inhabit. some of the objects they chose from were: the wing of a dragonfly, a rock with bamacles
attached,aminisanddollar,abur,asponge,acrystal,aspider,acone,alightbulb,atubeofbubble
solution, a quarter, a peanut, a lead bullet, an acorn top, and a starfish leg. They used magnifying
glasses and explored the textures of the surfaces ofthe objects. Then they drew what they
saw, making
sure to keep the featues that they observed through the microscope and magnifying glasies.They will
share their drawings and describe how their planet could be an actual living environment.
Fourteen students were chosen to participate in the Community Action Network art show. Students'
paintings were on display at Bradley Square Mall, and the students were invited to a community event
honoring families that were affected by the April 201 1 tomadoes.
Students participated in a school-wide Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot. School finalists were Sean Bartol,
Saylor Clark, Haydon Sells, Elysia Schaffer and Bailey Anderson. These students advanced to the local
competition at the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland. The 3 students (Saylor, Haydon and Bailey) that
were able to attend all placed in this event. Saylor placed 1st in his age division and will advance to the
District competition held in Knoxville December 17.

First grade studants enjoyed a field trip to Guthrie Farms.
2l - Kindergarten students
enjoyed a field trip to Apple Valley Orchard.
November 2 - Stuart PTO provided a wonderful soup luncheon for faculty and
staff. A plethora ofdelicious homemade soups and desserts were available.
November 8 - Third grade students enjoyed a field trip to the Aquarium in
Chattanooga.
November 9 - Stuart teachers met with Sue O'Connell (Math Consultant) for a
day oftraining regarding math strategies.
November 12 - Students, parents, grandparents, and teachers attended our annual
Fall Festival. Activities included large bouncing toys, bull riding, petting zoo,
face painting, etc. Student volunteers from Lee University were on hand to assist.
November 16 - Stuart School Counselor Debbie Nenen conducted a Character
Education breakfast for those students selected by their teacher for exhibiting
"Perseverance." Each student received a Character Ed. T-shirt and certificate.
November 18 - Members of the Rotary Club delivered personal dictionaries to
Third grade students.
