We have assembled an outstanding group of nationally prominent officials, observers and supervisors who are planning to share their experience, philosophy and knowledge with each. You will have the opportunity to meet, greet and eat with members of our clinic staff and guests as well as collegiate and high school officiating coordinators. The program will include group sessions, position meetings, and special instruction on all areas of officiating, including a seven, six and five man mechanics review. Imagine two full days of sharing lessons with NFL, BCS and FCS Collegiate and State Championship Football Officials. Plus, there will be a Friday evening social, and a continental breakfast and lunch served on Saturday (all included in your registration fee). This is our 5th clinic and, we are very fortunate to have Morgan State University (Baltimore, MD) as our host. Due to the expected amount of registrations, we have expanded our scrimmage opportunities to Bowie State University and we are actively negotiating for a third site (details to come soon). We have improved on the successful format of the previous years and we have upgraded our facilities, audio-visual equipment, etc. You now have the choice of selecting from various tracks. There will be multiple breakout sessions offered simultaneously. So, you can choose the breakouts of your preference. We foresee there being a track for High School Officials, 7-man Mechanics, et cetera. All participants will be broken down into crews (including those selecting Classroom Only). Each crew will be assigned to a clinician. The clinician will be fully assigned to your crew for the entire clinic. You'll be able receive on-field instruction from him as well as share lunch, participate in crew meetings, and much more. What better opportunity to pick the brains of the best talent in football officiating anywhere in the world! Please scroll down for our list of clinicians. We're sure you'll be impressed. For the absolute best football officiating training, news and the latest podcast episodes visit www.profootballreferee.com. You have two registration options. These options are: 1. Classroom and On-field Instruction (by working a scrimmage): The TBFOC Staff realizes that there are some officials that are not comfortable participating in the on-field sessions while other officials are much more willing to do so. To accommodate both, we have decided to limit the number of officials that will take part in the scrimmage. Officials choosing to work the scrimmage will be identified on a “First Come First Serve” basis. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to register immediately! You will not want to miss this opportunity to take the field and perform in front of some of our top notch NFL and Collegiate Officials. If history is any indication, this registration option will fill quite fast. 2. Classroom Only: As usual, the classroom sessions will be as dynamic as always. This is evident by the top notch clinicians that we have this year. At every general session as well as the breakouts, there will be several officials from the NFL and the UFL as well as some of the best collegiate officials in the country from the ACC, Big XII, Big East, and SEC. To be specific, at each position, there will be collegiate officials that have worked a myriad of Bowl Games. So, if you choose not to work on the field, there will still be significant opportunities for you to increase your knowledge and officiating abilities! The TBFOC offers a payment plan option for the Classroom & On-field Registration. The 1st payment is due on or before 1/01/2012, 2nd payment due on or before 2/1/2012 & the final payment is due on or before 2/29/2012 (Field positions are filled based on full clinic payment dates. Upgrades may be possible but are subject to availability). The clinic will begin earlier on Friday (Approximately 10am) so that we have additional time to enhance your classroom and on-field experience. There will be a general session and conferencestyle sessions regarding mechanics and how they relate to the running, passing and kicking games. On Saturday morning, there will be several breakout sessions where we will address additional mechanics by breaking into 4 groups: line of scrimmage officials (LJ and HL), deep wing officials (BJ, FJ, SJ), Umpires, and Referees. Finally, after a pregame classroom session on Saturday mid-day, the officials will report to the field for additional instruction while working one of the Saturday afternoon spring scrimmage. The clinic is designed for both high school officials and collegiate officials at all levels. The emphasis of this clinic is in putting an official in the right place at the right time to make the right call! NFL Clinicians will be in attendance. Supervisors from collegiate conferences are invited. On-Field Instruction This clinic is proud to work in conjunction with the Morgan State and Bowie State Football Teams. We are also in the process of securing a 3rd scrimmage site. Spring practices will have begun and on-field work is planned. If you register to work on the field, the following attire is required: Hat, stripped shirt, knickers or foul weather pants, whistle, flag and bean bag. There will be a clinician for each position at each site. In the event of inclement weather an indoor mechanics demonstration will be substituted. For the absolute best football officiating training, news and the latest podcast episodes visit www.profootballreferee.com. Post- Scrimmage Review Following the scrimmage there will be a brief review session. During this post game review, the observers will critique overall performance, including rule interpretation, mechanics and positioning, and general field presence. You will have the opportunity to ask the observers questions regarding your performance. The post game review session at the scrimmage site will conclude the clinic. We hope that you leave your scrimmage with a greater understanding of the mechanics and the philosophies necessary to be a quality football official. For 2012, the camp will expand to include 4 nights stay so that video review can begin first thing on Thursday morning. This year’s camp will again include three college campuses: Univ. of Central Arkansas, Univ. of Arkansas Pine Bluff, and Henderson State Univ. All spots in the camp will include on-field work. Also, based upon feedback from last year’s camp, we are opening enrollment earlier and allowing officials to spread their registration payment over time to minimize the financial impact that has previously occurred around the holiday season. The camp is open to all college level officials or officials preparing for the collegiate level, but attendance will be limited to the first 84 officials (12 crews) to complete the registration process. The registration fee of $900 includes all camp fees, room/tax, meals, and meeting instructional videos. The UCA, UAPB and HSU football teams will be used for all live onfield work. Also for 2012, we will host another camp in Reno, NV Thursday, June 14 – Sunday, June 17, 2012. This will be the second of two camps held in Reno as part of the Nevada Football Camp. That camp will be limited to 56 officials (8 crews). Information on the Reno Camp will be available in August. We will begin accepting registration forms on July 19, 2011. To register, you can complete and submit the form online or you can download and email the form. Fill out the attached Camp Registration Form as instructed, save a separate file titled with your first and last name, and email to Tracy Hunt at the address on the form. Be sure to attach a digital photo in the appropriate box. DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY WITH THIS INITIAL REGISTRATION FORM. WE WILL NOTIFY YOU WHEN YOU NEED TO SEND IN THE INITIAL DEPOSIT TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT AT THE CAMP. As registrations are received, officials will be selected based upon position indications on your registration form. Another factor we will consider will be to crew officials with similar experience, thus enabling us to customize instruction and make the program as effective as possible in helping officials meet their specific needs. This also allows persons new to officiating to have an opportunity at the formal instruction our camp provides to develop good mechanics. You will be notified if you are selected, after which you will have seven (7) days to submit your non-refundable deposit fee of $300 to the Big 12 Conference office. If your deposit fee is not received within that time, we will offer that space to the next official on the waiting list. You will receive an email confirmation when your deposit fee is received. For the absolute best football officiating training, news and the latest podcast episodes visit www.profootballreferee.com. The second installment payment of $300 will be due no later than November 30, 2011 with the third and final installment payment of $300 due no later than February 28, 2012. Hopefully this will make the cost of the camp more affordable and easier for officials during times when other expenses create a seasonal burden. Room accommodations for four nights will be provided as part of the registration fee at the Crown Plaza Hotel, 201 S. Shackleford, Little Rock, AR 72211 (501) 223-3000. The hotel provides complimentary shuttle service to and from the Little Rock airport. Meals will be provided beginning with breakfast on Thursday and concluding with breakfast on Sunday. In addition, it’s central location to the colleges and universities in the region provide a reasonable commute to our Saturday scrimmage sites. Staff The camp director is Dick Honig, a longtime collegiate official from Michigan with 38 years experience in Division 1 football. Therefore, extra efforts are made to assemble a staff that is passionate about passing on their knowledge of their profession. Clinicians this year will be from the NFL, Big Ten, MAC, MVC, and the GLIAC. The staff of the Great Lakes Collegiate Football Clinic will strive to deliver the best clinic experience possible. Check This Out! Forward Progress is a book written for aspiring football officials everywhere. Regardless of your current level or abilities, Forward Progress is a MUST READ for every football official who wants to improve his or her skills. Let me tell you how this idea came about. You see I'm just like many of you reading this. I live in Louisville, KY and I belong to the local football officiating association. I've officiated football for seven years and I've worked in the state playoffs for the past four years. I have dreams of "calling" football at the Division 1 level. I've always been somewhat competitive and I like setting goals and pushing myself to improve. In 2009 I was fortunate to be hired as a supplemental official in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (Div II). I worked 6 games last year as a deep wing official and have been offered a full time position on a WVIAC crew for 2010 . But enough about that, let me get back to the book. Visit Product Page Football Rules Study If you are like me, reading and studying the rulebook can get old. Its like reading a courtroom document or a legal brief! After an hour of study, your mind is swimming in a sea of football terms and definitions. Until now there have been no other options for football officials seeking new and innovative ways to MASTER the Rulebook. You simply read the rulebook, then read it again. Maybe you kept it in the bathroom, maybe you had mini-study sessions during your lunch hour. Maybe you tried putting it under your pillow and absorbing the rules through osmosis…!
