your hands. Since our last catalogue there
have been many changes in the world we
live in today. Here at Kootenay Forge, we
are still working hard at producing timeless hand-forged ironwork. We have spent
the past year wondering how to make our
products, faster, easier and affordable.
Through this assessment we have realized that the quality of our products is more
important to us than the price tag that is
put on them. We do our best to offer the

We would like to provide an example of our timeless products that have
withstood unfortunate circumstances. We
received a call from a lady that had lost
her house to a fire. One of the only items
left was the fireplace set that we had made
for her a number of years before. She
wanted to know if she could send it back
to us to see if we could shine it up again,
so that she could pass it down to her son
and his family, as her new home did not
have a fireplace. With a little rubbing, a
new brush, and a fresh coat of wax we
reclaimed this wonderful fireplace set and
sent it off to continue its purpose for the
family.
We will continue to hand-forge
ironwork that will last for years without the
worry of it breaking down and falling apart.

Lampshades
Our lampshades have been carefully chosen to
complement our lamps - simple, natural and interesting,
and not the sort of shades you would find every day. They are made from hand-made
paper and have pieces of wool inside the paper, giving them an interesting, irregular

This style, Tiempo North and Tiempo
South, is 20” tall, and it takes a
standard (medium base) bulb up to

flourescent. It comes with a 7” harp,
and has a switch in the lampholder.

Designed for entryways and other places that need a smaller
chandelier, this 3 arm unit is 19" high, and 14" wide.
Like our other chandeliers, it takes Candelabra bulbs,

made of plant fibre, and

This handy and tidy Kindling Rack fits
on all our log holders (LH1 through
LH3). It hooks over the top bars and
easily lifts off to make it easier to fill the

Our Log Baskets are of sturdy riveted
construction and will fold for storage.
The small basket is hearth-sized, while the
large one is for the more serious wood-burner.

Except as otherwise indicated below, our finish is a hard-drying acrylic polish that highlights the natural black colour of iron, and does not hide
any detail of the forging process. This is a long lasting indoor finish which may be restored very simply by wiping the ironwork with any suitable
clear polish, such as ‘Future’ floor polish.
Items that we expect to get wet are treated with a different finish, either a water based urethane finish or metal lacquer. This is adequate for
normal use, but if our products are to be used in extreme conditions we suggest an additional one or two coats of metal lacquer be applied first.
Items that have been given this water resistant finish are:
• Bathroom Accessories (except towel rails, which are now powder-coated for maximum durability)
• Plant Accessories • Coat Stands • Umbrella Stands • Door Knockers
The other items in this catalogue would usually be used in a dry location, and the finish will be
more than adequate.
Any finish wears off with time. Periodic re-finishing should be expected.
Please treat your ironwork with care - we cannot be responsible for
the finish if you use it in inappropriate places or treat it roughly.

The curtain rod holders come in two types, ones where the decorative part goes up, and ones where it goes down, depending on your
window frame needs and your preference. For a simpler look, the centre supports can also be used in place of the leaf or curl holders.

ootenay Forge is situated in Crawford Bay, a little hamlet on the shores of Kootenay Lake in south-eastern British
Columbia. It is an area renowned for its natural beauty and also its artists and craftspeople. We invite you to visit us if you
are in the area. Within walking distance of our shop there are a Broommaker, a Glassblower, a Copper Enamelist, a Pottery
studio, a Jeweller, a Weaving studio and even a Wizard Maker. Local establishments also display works by local artists.
In our gallery you will see all the items in this catalogue plus other one-of-a-kind pieces. You are welcome to watch us work and
learn a little about this age-old craft - our workshop is always open to the public.
Blacksmithing is the original craft of working with iron, going back 3,500 years. Although the tools have changed over the years,
we still follow in the footsteps of the blacksmiths of old, using many of the same techniques. With small, energy efficient propane
forges, we heat the steel to 2,0000 F (1,2000 C) and hammer, bend and twist it into all the beautiful shapes you see here. We use
a few modern tools, but it’s with hammers that we forge life into the red hot steel,
and the ring of the anvil is music to our ears.
