Jean R. Swihart, 73, of 451 N. Main St., Eldorado, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, at his home.
Born Oct. 14, 1923, in Eldorado, he was the son of Raymond and Edith (Null) Swihart. He was the Eldorado postmaster from 1953-1981 and had worked previously at Johns Manville in Richmond, Ind. He was a member of the
BPO Elks Lodge, Richmond, Ind.; a U.S. Marine veteran; Amvets Post 726, Eldorado; American Legion, West
Manchester, National League of Postmasters; and a former member of the Eldorado Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, June (Stayton) Swihart; three daughters, Luana Swihart, Roxann Miller, and Kathy
Miller, all of Eldorado; a son Kurt Swihart of New Paris; three sisters, Dorothy Johnson of Naples, Fla., Betty
Wigginton of Richmond, Ind., and Barbara Fisher of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Harold Swihart of Eldorado;
grandchildren, Kari Jo Lee, Kendra and Kortney Swihart, Chad, Brady and Trent Miller; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Richie, and a brother, Charles Swihart.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 14, at Bussard-Barnes-Vaniman Funeral Home, Eldorado with the Rev. Kathryn Hawbaker officiating. Burial was in Monroe Cemetery at Eldorado.
