The Brahms piece is full of an energetic yet disturbing vigour, reflecting his turbulent self-doubt. Schumann was inspired by the music of Beethoven which is evident in his Op.47 quartet. Dvorak’s Op.87 quartet premiered just days before he started writing the Dumky piano trio, heard earlier in the series. With Peter Cropper (violin), James Boyd (viola), Paul Watkins (cello). Red Priest The Bach Project This is Bach as you’ve never heard him before! Red Priest take a look at the greatest genius of the Baroque era, adding their legendary creativity, wit and virtuosity along the way. Hear some of the most sublime adagios ever composed, a mix of delights taken from his flute, oboe and violin sonatas, cello and keyboard suites and witness an epic performance of the great Toccata and Fugue in D minor. Watch and hear them at www.piersadams.com/RedPriest “Virtuosity, verve and creative spontaneity are fused together in a way that makes the impact positively volcanic.” Daily Telegraph Wednesday 16 June, 8pm Prokofiev Quintet Op.39, Martinu Nonet, Schumann Piano Quintet in E flat Op.44 A programme of unjustly neglected works! Prokofiev’s Quintet was commissioned for a circus-themed ballet called Trapeze and is quirky, fun and not to be taken too seriously. Martinu’s Nonet looks back to some of his inspirations; the music of Haydn and the tunes of his Czech homeland. Schumann’s Piano Quintet is widely acknowledged as one of the favourite works in the genre. Two days after completing it he started writing his Op.47 piano quartet, yet the two works could not be more different. The current line-up of Maddy Prior, Peter Knight, Liam Genockey, Ken Nicol and Rick Kemp will be spending the fortieth anniversary year in much the same way as every other; playing live with two UK tours plus visits to Australia and the USA, making music and releasing a new album that sees them bucking their own trend and going back to their root with the interpretation of traditional song.
