Cardwell C. Nuckols, PhD
Dr. Cardwell C. Nuckols is described as “one of the most influential clinical and
spiritual trainers in North America.” He has served the behavioral medicine field for
almost 40 years and for the last 20 years is considered one of the leading experts in
the world on addiction and recovery. His background includes advanced work in such
areas as medical research, pharmacology, neurobiology and psychology.
Dr. Nuckols is widely published, having authored more than 60 journal articles,
30 books and workbooks, 50 DVDs, CDs and videos, and 25 audiotape series.
His latest book entitled Finding Freedom Through Illumination: Realizing Christ
Consciousness was released in May of 2014. His previous publication is a best
seller entitled The Ego-Less SELF: Achieving Peace and Tranquility Beyond All
Understanding. Dr. Nuckols’ first book Cocaine: Dependency to Recovery is also a
trade best seller, as are, his booklets Quitting Heroin, Quitting Alcohol and Quitting
Marijuana (Hazelden). He is the author of the book Healing an Angry Heart (HCI)
and video Chalk Talk on Drugs with Father Martin (Kelly Productions).
Charles Chapman Sledge, MD, FASAM
In August 2009, Dr. Sledge became Chief Medical Officer at Cumberland Heights in
Nashville, TN. For the previous 15 years, he had been Medical Director of Addiction
Treatment Services at Pine Grove Behavioral Health in Hattiesburg, MS.
Dr. Sledge is a graduate of Louisiana State University and the University of
Mississippi School of Medicine. He completed residency training in Family Medicine
and was certified by the American Board of Family Practice in 1986. In 1990, Dr.
Sledge completed fellowship training in Addiction Medicine. He was certified by the
American Society of Addiction Medicine in 1992 and re-certified in 2002. Dr. Sledge
received the designation as a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine
in 1999. In May 2009, Dr. Sledge was among the first group of physicians to receive
certification by the American Board of Addiction Medicine.

From White River Junction and points South: Take I-91 North to
Exit 15 in Vermont. Turn left off exit ramp. Take first right (granite Lake

From Burlington: Take I-89 South to Exit 7 (Berlin/Barre). Take
Route 302 East through Barre to Orange. Take Route 25 South to
Bradford. Take I-91 South to Exit 15 - Turn right off exit ramp. Take

Dr. Sledge has served as president of the Mississippi Physicians Recovery Program
and the Mississippi Society of Addiction Medicine. For several years he has chaired
the Certification and Eligibility Committee of ASAM. In 2005, he was elected to the
ASAM Board of Directors, representing KY, TN, MS, AL, FL, and PR. At the Annual
ASAM meeting in 2009, Dr. Sledge was installed as Secretary of the organization.
He also serves on the Medical/Scientific Committee of the National Council on
Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependence. Dr. Sledge has served as Clinical Assistant
Professor of Psychiatry (courtesy), Division of Addiction Medicine, at the University
of Florida, while directing an Addiction Medicine fellowship program.
Marc Fishman, MD
Marc Fishman is an addiction psychiatrist and a member of the faculty of the
Department of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
He is the Medical Director of Maryland Treatment Centers, a regional behavioral
healthcare provider, which offers programs for residential and outpatient treatment
of drug-involved and dual-diagnosis adolescents and adults. He is the author of
numerous articles and book chapters on addiction treatment, and lectures widely
on a variety of topics including adolescent treatment, placement and treatment
matching strategies, medication treatments for addiction. His academic work
has focused on models of care and treatment outcomes for addictions in youth,
in particular opioid dependence. He has also directed and collaborated on several
research studies of addiction pharmacotherapies. He is the site PI for the one of the
sites of the NIDA Clinical Trials Network CTN-51 XBOT study of buprenorphine vs
extended release naltrexone for opioid addiction. Dr. Fishman served as a co-editor
for the most recent editions of ASAM’s Patient Placement Criteria (PPC 2-R, PPC 3),
and served as the chief editor for the ASAM PPC Supplement on Pharmacotherapies
for Alcohol Use Disorders. He is the chair of the Adolescent Committee for ASAM. He
served as a past President (2010-12) of the Maryland Society of Addiction Medicine.
