Washington Bank Caucus Fred Beuttler, deputy historian of the House of Representatives shared an informative, humorous background of the House and some of its more famous, or perhaps infamous Members. Congressman Mel Watt, Congressman Jones, and Chief of Staff Glenn Downs candidly shared their views on the CFPA with concerned North Carolina bank leaders. Earl Leake, director for Bank of Commerce, Dwight Utz, president and CEO of The East Carolina Bank, Senator Chris Dodd, and Mark A. Holmes, president and CEO of Select Bank & Trust Company stop for a group photo after a meeting. Caucus Chair Mike Cline, Carolina Trust Bank, Lincolnton, and NCBA Vice Chair Larry Barbour, North State Bank, concentrate on the objectives laid forth by American Bankers Association Senior EVP and COO Diane Casey-Landry. FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair held the rapt attention of our group. 22 carolina banker Spring 2010 White House Business Council Executive Director Elizabeth Vale shared the President’s primary objectives with Spence Cosby, Sidus Financial, Dwight Utz, The East Carolina Bank, NCBA Chairman Skip Brown, First Community Bank, and Nantahala Bank’s Jim Vanderwoude. Smiles were hard to find during Congressman Mel Watt’s discussion of the Consumer Financial Protection Agency. Treasury’s Diplomatic Reception room was filled to capacity for the briefing with Eric Stein and Dan Sokolov. Drew Covert, Southern Bank, is joined by Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren, CapStone Bank’s Steve Ogburn and Jim Bolt of First Trust Bank. Senator Richard Burr voiced his deep concern with the additional budget deficit we now face. All eyes and ears were facing forward for the industry’s legislative priorities for this Congress at the American Bankers Association.
