ReStore moved from The Plains
to 309 W. Union Street in Athens in March. When looking
for a new location for the ReStore it was important that it
facilitate growth in both donations and revenue, the new
store is 7,800 sq. ft. and located close to central Athens.
More people are visiting the
new location; 300 people
came through the doors opening weekend, totaling
from Providence College and

Collegiate Challenge Comes to Athens
Athens County Habitat for Humanity had two different Collegiate Challenge groups
come to Athens this March. One was from Providence College and the other from the
University of Virginia. Both groups helped move and organize the ReStore to its new
location. They also helped with the current build taking place at 2 Alexander Street in
Athens. Making these trips successful took a lot of help from our Faith Build Coalition
volunteers. Thank you to First Christian Church for housing the Habitat volunteers.
Thank you to the Athens Community Center for letting the students shower at their
facility. Thank you to Danny Moates for organizing breakfast and dinner for the college
students. Thank you to the following churches for providing wonderful dinners our
Habitat volunteers: Athens Catholic Parish, First Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian
Church and Grace Christian Center.
WRTR Flower Sale & Golf Outing
The Women Raise the
Roof flower sale has
commenced. This is a
great fundraiser because
you get great deals on
flowers and Habitat gets
a percentage of the
profits.
You can pick up order
forms at the Habitat
Office and the ReStore
located on Union Street.
Orders need to be re-
ceived by Anita James by
April 27, 2013. All flower
orders should be picked
up on Sunday, May 5 between 11am and 3pm at
the Junior Fair Building at
the Athens County Fairgrounds. Women Raise
the Roof has a goal of 125
orders this spring, please
order today!
The Women Raise the
Roof Habitat for Humanity
Collation will be hosting
the tenth annual golf
scramble on June 1, 2013.
The event will begin with a
9am shotgun start at the
Ohio University golf course.
There will be food, beverages, prizes and a silent
auction.
The cost is $240.00 per a
team or $60.00 per an individual, please register before May 17th, 2013. You
can send fees and names of
golfers to Peggy Pruitt at
6933 Gura Road, Athens,
Ohio 45701.
Faith Build’s Scrap Metal Drive
The Faith Build coalition will be hosting
a Scrap Metal Drive on Saturday, June
1st from 9am to 1pm at the Athens
County Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds
are located on West Union Street in
Athens. All scrap metal will be welcomed along with car batteries.
This event along with the Rummage
Sale, and 2x4 signings help the Faith
Build Coalition fund their next building
project. This winter the Faith Build coalition hit another house sponsorship and
is looking to get a head start on the next
Habitat House. Cash donations will be
welcomed at both of these events.
Clean out your garage or closet and help
raise money for Habitat for Humanity.
Spotlight on Volunteers
Janey Copeland is a regular
volunteer at the ReStore. She
loves to volunteer with Habitat
because she gets to talk to
people about their home
projects and their home repair
needs. She likes it when
customers come back and
share what they have created
with the staff and volunteers at
the ReStore. Thank you Janey
for all of you hard work!

Meet the new Habitat Staff
Athens County Habitat for Humanity has
several new faces working in the office,
build site and ReStore. In the office
the affiliate has
hired Tiffany
Tomeo, our new
Volunteer and
Youth Engagement Director. She is in
charge of volunteer recruitment, engagement, and retention. She has been vital
this last month during as the Habitat affiliate merges and expands our service area.
Though not a new face Steven Peters has
a new title, the
former site supervisor is now Athens County Habitat
for Humanity Parttime Construction
Supervisor. He will
continue to be on the build site working with homeowners and volunteers
to build safe, affordable homes. He
will also be in the office order construction supplies and organizing
build day task lists.
At the new ReStore we have two new
employees, Michael Vaughn and Kiara
Otlowski. Both are part-time ReStore
associates. Michael along with Dave
Stafford, a volunteer, works on Tuesdays doing donations pick-ups. Kiara
works behind the counter ringing out
customers and pricing new inventory.
