The Mermaid Bridge / ATELIER MARIJKE DE GOEY
The Mermaid Bridge / ATELIER MARIJKE DE GOEY The Mermaid Bridge is situated in a private park (95ha) in Auckland, New Zealand. It bridges two artificial lakes that on request have been coloured in lovely intense blue, using environmentally friendly pigment. This sculpture bridge is the culmination of my cube-skeleton series, which range from minature to monumental. The bridge consists of 22 cubes each 3x3x3 meters of welded steel tubes in an exuberant shape. The transparent walkaway winds itself like a jewel between the cubes without taking the slightest notice of strict regulations, whicj makes traversing the bridge a thrilling adventure. 49 Neon Secrets / ATELIER MARIJKE DE GOEY The town square in Leerdam is a public soace accentuated with glass and neon - unusual materials to use in a square. However this had to do with the glass industry in Leerdam. The inspiration for the total design comes from Le Petit Prince by Saint-Exupéry. In total 49 cubes with hidden inscriptions and neon sculptures visualise the centre square, embraced by long axis, which connect the station, the square and the old city. In cooperation with landscape architect Angrid Tilanus links with other disciplines such as street furnishings and trees are made.
