PROJECT OVER VIEW • In 2005, RTD completed the Longmont Diagonal Rail Feasibility Study to determine the feasibility of potential commuter rail implementation in the Longmont Diagonal Corridor. • In late 2005, RTD began an Environmental Evaluation (EE) to further analyze the Longmont Diagonal Rail Study area. • In 2006, RTD combined the commuter rail portion of the two studies into one corridor – Northwest Rail – to be studied and implemented separately from the highway improvements planned for US 36. • The Northwest Rail Line issued a Final EE in 2010, which identified the associated benefits and effects of implementing rapid transit service along the BNSF Railway Line. • A segment of the Northwest Rail Line, from Denver Union Station to south Westminster, will begin construction in 2012 as part of the Eagle P3 project, with the segment opening to the public in 2016. • The end-of-line station in downtown Longmont is being constructed as part of construction-ready plan. The $17 million project will begin construction in 2012 and open to the public in 2015. • The portion of the Northwest Rail Line from south Westminster to Downtown Longmont will begin construction when additional funding is available.
