Thank you for the wonderful welcome to your kura/school.
It is a pleasure to be part of your team and represent you in
the community.
A bit about myself…. I started my principal-ship in a sole
charge school 30 minutes north of Kaikoura in 1998, then
moving to Otewa School, a three teacher school in
Otorohanga and lastly leaving Waihi East School in April. All
schools have been stunning for my growth and development and I hope this experience will enhance your existing
school.
My partner Mark works for LIC and we live near the airport
in Hamilton (the Rukuhia side!). Although we have no children we enjoy having a small section with a freezer animal
or two. Our hens are currently there for looks with no one
laying at the moment. Our aim is to move to northern Hamilton.
I am enjoying getting to know the school and its members.
You will note that there will be no sudden changes implemented this term. My preference is to look at all the amazing things that are in place and move forward from this.
I look forward to catching up with you over the term. Drop
me an email, phone or call in.

Harold’s Visit
During the last week of Term 1, Trish and Harold the
giraffe came to visit us and talk to us about many
important life educated things eg. How the brain works,
how drugs and alcohol effects us and how to look after
our body. Room 6 were part of a crucial crime scene and
we learnt how careful you have to be around the wrong
people and drinks. Thank you to Trish and Harold for
teaching us these very important life lessons. We look

child/children’s transport arrangements are for after school.
Please also include details, should trainings be cancelled due
to bad weather etc. Without updated information we will continue with the information we currently hold for your children. Dates and times also need to be clear on these written
instructions. Thank you.
School Donations
School donations have been set at $100 per student per
year, with a maximum of $300 for families with 3 or more
children at school. The school donation can be paid on a
term by term basis of $25 per student, or as a lump sum for
the full amount. If you wish to discuss alternative payment
options, please contact Sonya in the school office. Thank

SCREENAGERS
The Waikato AP/DP Association, in collaboration with 3MLearning presents:
SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in the Digital Age, a documentary about the biggest parenting issue
of our time.
Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid -fire thumbs and a six-second attention
span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that happening with her own kids and began
a quest to uncover how it might impact their development. As with her other two award-winning
documentaries on mental health, Ruston takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the
vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video
games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along
with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals
how tech time impacts kids’ development and also offers solutions on how adults can empower
their kids to best navigate the digital world to find balance.
