Scottsdale Parent Council promotes communication and cooperation between Scottsdale Unified School District parents,
administration and staff; monitors district services; and advocates for the highest quality of education for all students attending
school in the district.
Goals for 2011-2012
Goal 1: Promote communication and cooperation between representative parent groups, district administration and staff
Create a monthly newsletter that provides an introduction to district employees, district news, legislative news, and
organizational news; Reinstitute Complex Chairs and Level Liaisons; Rotate monthly meetings to introduce parents to all parts of
our district; Attend at least one of the parent group meetings at each of the SUSD schools.
Goal 2: Monitor District Services Ensure parent participation on all district committees; Participate in regular meetings with
district leadership; Have a standing agenda item where district leadership addresses general membership; Have an SPC Board
member at every open SUSD Governing Board meeting; Mediate parent concerns regarding district policies.
Goal 3: Advocate for the highest quality education for all students attending school in the Scottsdale Unified School
Promote equity in programming among schools within the district; Support the continuation of well-rounded curricula, that
adheres to all state mandates – including fine arts, differentiated instruction, and gifted and special education – and that is
accessible to all SUSD students; Advocate for public education, and specifically adequate funding, at the State Legislature.

General Membership Meetings
Meetings include programs of interest on education issues affecting the Scottsdale Unified School District as well
as regular Scottsdale Parent Council business.
Meetings are open to the public and generally held at the SUSD Education Center at 9:30 a.m. However,
periodically, meetings rotate to the school sites. Notification of location, if other than the Education Center, will
be sent out and posted to the website at least one week prior to meeting.

Supporters of Students with Gifts and Talents
The gifted group in Scottsdale. formerly, SSG (Scottsdale Supporters of the Gifted) have re-affiliated
with the state group, AAGT (AZ ASSOC of Gifted and Talented) as SSGT (Supporters of Students with
Gifts and Talents).
Our new mission:
To provide support to all parents and students with gifts and talents, even if not specifically identified
and placed in programs. We also want to provide support for all families all over the Valley. We want
parents to know that we are not just associated with SUSD, but all educational settings: charter,
private, on-line and home-schooled families.

Special Education Parents Advisory Council (SEPAC)
SEPACS was formed in May 2005 with following vision:

where their diverse educational, emotional, and social needs are recognized, respected, and met.

Where are copies of board agendas placed?
Copies of the agenda are placed in a box outside the front entrance at least 24 hours prior to each meeting. The board uses a
consent agenda format for many routine matters. These items will be considered as a group and voted on with one motion. There
will not be separate discussion of these items unless a board member so requests. If a request is received, the item will be
removed from the consent agenda and considered as a separate item.
Visitors are always welcome to speak at board meetings.
Please fill out a public comment card before the meeting and hand it to the board secretary. Presentations are limited to three
minutes. The board, by law, is not permitted to discuss items that have not been posted as agenda items. Therefore, if you speak
about an item that is not on the agenda, board members will be unable to respond or discuss that item. However, the board may
refer your issue to the administration for study and response at a future meeting.
All regular, special and emergency meetings of the Board are open to the public except during executive session. Notices of all
meetings are provided to the local daily newspapers and are posted at the Education Center at least 24 hours prior to each
meeting. By Arizona law, executive sessions may be called by the governing board to discuss: (1) personnel matters; (2) meet and
confer items (negotiations); (3) legal matters with attorneys; (4) purchase or lease of real property; and, (5) litigation.
