P a g e2 GOOD NEI^JS JIJNE - JULY - 1980 INTERNATIONALCONVENTION It is estimated that more than 30,000 persons will attend the 45th AnniverAA Convention sary International in New Orleans July 3-6, l-980. This will t gathering the largest of its kind ever hel-d anywhere in the world. Meeting be A1-Anon and Alateen. concurrently will The Hyatt-Regency is AArs headquarters; the llilton and Rivergate Center for Al-Anon and Alateen. The Convention opens Thursday night, July 3, with a giant l{ardi Gras parade Convention Center. This will in the Rivergate be followed by a get-acquainl t'Crayfish young peoplets Ball featuring New Orleans jazz and a special Cral at the Marriott Hotel. 0n Friday and Saturday, July 4 and 5, a variety of alkathons, workshopsr pi discussions and special interest meetings are scheduled from 8 AM to 2 PM the next day. Among the alkathons will be the Pacific Regional Alkathon, headed up by George D. Pacific Regional Trustee, and featuring speakers fr< and Nevada. Among participants from Northern California Hawaii, Alaska, in the workshop panels will be Dean K, past-delegate, Oakland, on Cooperation with the Professional Community, and Trisha G., Novato, on the Grapevine panel. Participating in the all-California alkathon will be Frank P, San Mateo. There will be a total of 170 meetings with participation by 510 speakers. One marathon will run 24 hours a day. The Superdome and Rivergatr Convention Center will be the sites for many of the meetings but ballrooms local hotels also will be used for meetings. On Friday, July 4, the Superdone will host the largest AA meeting ever hel' Speakers will be AA members from Springfield, Mass., Arlington, Va., and Johannesburg, So. Africa. Glant TV screens are strategically located throu out the auditorium so that all will be able to see and hear. On Saturday t present its Big Show in the Superdome. This will Convention will feature t Minstrels, New Christy the Olympic Marching Band, the Harmonicats, and couedian Glen Ashe. Sunday morning will conclude with the big Splritual Meeting in the Superdome. Lois Wilson will be present. Speakers will be fr Winnepeg, Los Angeles, and London.
