There are over 30 million visits to the South Downs every year. Nationally, only 1% of total distance travelled on roads is by bus*. A survey identified that over 85% of visits to the Sussex Downs were made by car. The South Downs National Park Authority has developed 18 self-guided downland trails with routes that start and finish at bus stops. The walks explore the Downs around Brighton and Hove, including Mile Oak, Hangleton, Patcham, Hollingbury, Lewes, Rottingdean and Seaford.
