Each of us has something to contribute! Each of Us Has a Story Why are you in the financial aid profession? What are you passionate about? Do you view this as a job or a career? What do you have to contribute? What is your story? My Story Grew up on a farm in southeastern Illinois Oldest of four children and given responsibility at an early age First generation college student Worked my way from graduate assistant to director Passionate about what I do and believe that education is important Actively involved in professional associations Financial Aid Associations Why Are Associations Important? Discussion of financial aid issues and strategies Training Professional Development/Leadership Legislative advocacy Research and data Networking and support Financial Aid Association Structure National Association 6 Regional Associations 51 State Associations NASFAA – Our National Association NASFAA - National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators NASFAA Overview Institutional membership association Professional staff headquartered in Washington, DC Serves 3,000 post-secondary institutions Represents the interest of financial aid professionals and students to Congress, Department of Education and other regulatory agencies Governed by an elected Board of Directors that generally meets three times a year NASFAA Overview Board committees, task forces, working groups and thought forces Legal Structure Articles of Incorporation By-Laws Policies and Procedures Manual Strategic Plans that address plans and goals of the Association NASFAA Overview NASFAA is the largest postsecondary education association with institutional membership in Washington, D.C., and the only national association with a primary focus on student aid legislation, regulatory analysis, and training for financial aid administrators in all sectors of postsecondary education. No other national association serves the needs of the financial aid community better or more effectively. NASFAA Vision Statement NASFAA: Shaping the future by promotion student access and success in higher education. NASFAA Mission Statement The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) provides professional development for financial aid administrators; advocates for public policies that increase student access and success; serves as a forum on student financial aid issues; and is committed to diversity throughout all activities. NASFAA Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion In support of its mission, NASFAA will pursue and promote, in principle and practice, the diversity and inclusion of its membership to represent the profession and the students we serve. Ensure all Association activities fall within the scope of the Board-approved Mission and Vision Statements and represent the best use of time and resources. 2014-17 NASFAA Strategic Long-Range Plan (SLRP) Promote NASFAA as the trusted, recognized leader in the professional development of financial aid administrators. Assess and address, as needed, the perception of financial aid professionals among various stakeholders. Ensure the effective and strategic use of technology across all Association activities. Although separate legal entities, the relationship between NASFAA and the regional associations is harmonious and are bound by mutual interests.
