Cover Story. Kamloops residents, Maurice and Sydney are
hooked on the outdoor lifestyle that is so readily available around
Kamloops and area. They enjoy spending time with friends and family
hiking in the grasslands, mountain biking, horseback riding and downhill
and cross-country skiing. “We love playing outside late into the evening
during the long warm days of summer just as much we enjoy the
contrast of playing outside under the cooler, bright blue skies of winter.”
Kamloops: At the heart of it all
Getting here is easy. By road, rail or air, Kamloops is a
convenient destination. Four major highways converge in our
city, providing easy access from all parts of BC, Alberta and
Washington. The Kamloops Airport connects us to places
farther afield with direct flights to and from the international
gateways of Vancouver and Calgary. Two passenger railways also
make regular connections in Kamloops. And once you’ve arrived,
you’ll find that everything is conveniently close. It’s easy to get
around Kamloops by car, but we’re also a great city to explore on
foot or by bike. This symbol
designates dog friendly activities.
Well-served by major highways, railways and airlines, Kamloops is easy to
get to. For more detailed maps, visit tourismkamloops.com.

Look to sunny Kamloops for an unforgettable holiday experience. Located in
the heart of British Columbia’s Thompson region, Kamloops boasts a dramatic
landscape, four distinct seasons, urban amenities and unparalleled opportunities
for outdoor fun.
Sunshine and Blue Skies. With over 2,000 hours of sunshine annually, each
of our four seasons is perfect for outdoor adventure. Spring starts early, our
summer is warm and dry, and the sunny days extend well into fall. Winter
brings deep powder under clear blue skies in the surrounding mountains
making the Kamloops region an ultimate winter playground.
Breathtaking Scenery. Our diverse landscape includes sagebrush-covered
hills, wide-open grasslands, rugged mountains, forested valleys, clean rivers
and unspoiled lakes. As a semi-arid ecosystem, our natural environment
provides a wide variety of habitats for many unique plants, birds and
animals.
Hot Summer Fun. Whether you’re seeking adrenaline-charged
excitement or more relaxed outings, you’ll find innumerable
opportunities to pursue your passions. Nowhere else will you find
world-class hiking and mountain biking trails, whitewater rafting, 100+
lakes for fishing, boating, kayaking, wake boarding or stand up paddling
– right at your doorstep.
A Park for Every Personality. In Kamloops you can enjoy parks
for dogs, skateboarders, beach lovers, hikers and mountain bikers
– a park for every activity and every personality. From Kenna
Cartwright’s wild beauty to Riverside Park’s beaches and lush green
spaces, Kamloops parks are outdoor playgrounds that are good for
body and soul.
Tournament Capital. Outstanding facilities and amenities with a focus
on excellence make Kamloops Canada’s Tournament Capital. From
elite events such as the Tim Hortons Brier and Western Canada
Summer Games to local peewee hockey tournaments, Kamloops is
an exceptional host if you love to play hard and have fun.
Western Hospitality. Although we have everything you’d want in an
urban centre, we haven’t forgotten our historic roots. We’re known
for our unhurried lifestyle and our warm and welcoming people. In
Kamloops, you’ll feel right at home.

Kamloops blends energizing recreational opportunities with a culture of warm,
welcoming, real people, allowing visitors to let loose and just play.
A Golfer’s Paradise. Kamloops is one of Canada’s top golf destinations. With our
13 superbly conditioned golf courses, unparalleled scenery and a golf season
extending from mid-March well into November, Kamloops is a golfer’s dream
come true.
107 Things To Do. On the list, starting July 1, 2014, is a visit to the BC
Wildlife Park on the eastern outskirts of the city to get to know Clover, a
Kermode or “Spirit Bear”- a rare Black Bear with a white coat. Whether you
are interested in watching roller derby, trying stand up paddling, visiting a
2000-year-old village at the Secwepemc Museum and Heritage Park, or
enjoying a walk or run along the Rivers Trail, check out our list of activities
and let the fun begin.
Circle Tours. If you love the open road and exploring by either car or
motorcycle, then make Kamloops your base and try one of our circle
tours. Take in the land of the Gold Rush, tour lakes and hot springs, or
visit the waterfalls and wilderness of Wells Gray Park before you return
to Kamloops for the evening.
Winter Excitement. Don’t miss downhill and Nordic skiing,
snowshoeing, snowmobiling, sleigh rides and more. From the
perfectly groomed slopes of Sun Peaks Resort and Harper Mountain
to whisper-quiet trails through snow-laden forests, Kamloops
has everything you need for an unforgettable winter getaway. In
Kamloops, December is the start of ice fishing season in the lakes
of higher elevations and is also when our outdoor ice rinks open
(weather dependent).
Vibrant Nightlife. The good times roll when the sun goes down.
From a brew tour to a lively two-step to the latest in dance music,
Kamloops offers a trendy selection of pubs, bars and clubs where
you can kick up your heels or just kick back.
Thrilling Events. Mark your calendar! Kamloops plays host to
12 jam-packed months of fun events for everyone! The Kamloops
Cowboy Festival, the annual Ribfest competition and the annual
Wildlights Celebration at the BC Wildlife Park just to name a few.
See page 35 for a full list of events.

Open the door to outside fun.
Water Fun. Try stand up paddling with
summer lessons and sessions taking place on
beautiful Heffley Lake, located just 30 minutes
from downtown Kamloops. Or sail on many
of the nearby, beautiful lakes, such as Nicola,

Kamloops Lake. Azami Water Sports offers
both one-day and multi-day lessons for
those who’d like to try sailing for the first
time. Tube down a gentle river, plunge into
whitewater rafting or experience the thrill of
wakeboarding. Ask us about the best areas to
explore and options for guided tours.
Mountain Biking. Some of the best mountain
biking in BC awaits you in Kamloops at the
Kamloops Bike Ranch and Sun Peaks Resort;
from classic single-track to high-speed alpine
downhill and rigorous technical challenges to
one of Canada’s most technically advanced
municipal bike parks. It’s all right here, including
a variety of family friendly double-track
bike trails – with everything from gentle to
challenging at your doorstep.
Off Road Segway Tours. Take a trip ‘off-road’
with Shuswap Unique Adventure Tours – on a
Segway! These fun two-wheeled vehicles give
you a unique and entertaining way to explore
the Shuswap area east of Kamloops. Choose

Dirt Biking and ATV Riding. Explore the
backcountry on a dirt bike or ATV and

Hiking. Kamloops’ vast, rugged landscape
lends itself perfectly to being a great hiking
destination. The terrain varies from semi-arid
desert to lush, green forests of birch, poplar,
spruce and ponderosa pine. Experience
the magic feeling of hiking in our pristine
grasslands where you can experience a sea
of grass blowing in the wind like waves across
the ocean, to the awe-inspiring power of
the thundering waters of Helmcken Falls.
Kamloops will leave you breathless by its
geographic diversity and uniqueness. There are
many exciting areas to hike in Kamloops for

Spa. A key benefit of most vacations or
getaways is to take the time to relax and
unwind. One of the best ways to do that is
with a vist to a spa. In Kamloops, you can enjoy
the openness of a vast, rugged landscape and
access to a wide variety of spas. For those of
you looking for something totally unique, visit
the Sunmore Ginseng Spa, North America’s

wineries in Kamloops - Harper’s Trail and
Privato Vineyard and Winery. The wines are
being sold directly from the wineries. Please
contact the individual wineries for gift shop
and tasting room opening hours as they vary

produce direct from the farm. Join the locals
and wander through the Farmers’ Markets for
a fresh taste of Kamloops. Visit a working farm

(May - Oct) at Tranquille Farm Fresh. Visit the
downtown Farmers’ Market on Wednesdays &
Saturdays from April - October to find fresh,

Boutique Art Galleries. Kamloops is bursting with art galleries. From
fine western art at the Bunkhouse Gallery to local treasures at The Art
We Are, you’re sure to find that next great piece of art at one of our
many galleries.
St. Andrews Square. Built in 1887, St. Andrews on the Square is the
oldest public building in Kamloops. People can often be seen enjoying
lunch or coffee in the beautiful gardens, or you can even practise a yoga
class in the serenity of the church!
Cowboy Festival. Cowboy poetry, singing, art and an appreciation for
the cowboy lifestyle and western heritage is what you’ll get when you
take in the annual Kamloops Cowboy Festival in March. Also check out
the cowboy-themed Christmas concert presented by the BC Cowboy
Heritage Society.
Kamloops Film Festival. Exciting, edgy, innovative – the annual Canadian
and International Film Festival at the Kamloops Paramount Theatre
shows films from around the world that encompass all of these ideas.
Mainstage. Mainstage is a nine-day play festival with matinees and nightly
performances open to the public at Sagebrush Theatre. It will be held
from July 4-12, 2014 – our fifth year as host city!

Winter is a magical season in Kamloops – let it snow!
Winter Events. Visit Kamloops in the winter and you can enjoy the
spectacular Wildlights at the BC Wildlife Park or even the Winter Okanagan
Wine Festival at nearby Sun Peaks Resort.
Snowmobiling. Novices and experts alike will appreciate our wide diversity
of terrain (from alpine bowls to long trails), spectacular views and abundant
powder! Ask us for information on current conditions and how to access
riding areas.
Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding. Sun Peaks Resort, just 45 minutes from
Kamloops, offers amazing diversity across its three mountains. Gladed areas,
bumps, steeps, long cruisers, alpine bowls and a progressive park. Closer to
the city is Harper Mountain with 16 runs and night skiing open on weekends.
w
Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing. There’s something magical about
cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in a silent snow-draped world. Popular
destinations include Stake Lake*
Logan Lake*, Harper Mountain and Sun
Peaks Resort, with a combined 144 kilometers of trails. Equipment rentals are
available in Kamloops and at both Harper Mountain and Sun Peaks Resort.
*offers night-lit Nordic trails
Dog Sledding. Want to try the uniquely Canadian experience of dog
sledding? Head up to Sun Peaks Resort, where professional dog-sledding
guides will teach you how to hook up a team of Alaskan Huskies and take
them for a safe, fun run in the snow.
Sleigh Rides. Step back in time and explore our winter landscape in an
open-air horse-drawn sleigh. It’s a relaxing and highly memorable experience,
even better when followed by a steaming cup of hot chocolate! You can
experience this up at The Ranch or Sun Peaks Resort.
Tubing and Tobogganing. Kamloops’ rolling terrain and dry powder snow
are ideal for tubing and tobogganing. There are several popular hills within
the city, as well as the tube park at Sun Peaks Resort, and Harper Mountain’s
Snowtown Tube Park.
Ice Fishing. Many lakes in the higher elevations around Kamloops freeze well
enough to allow participants to head out into the fresh air and maybe catch
the big one. There are plenty of day trip options to make your ice fishing
adventure one you’ll talk about for years to come.
Ice Skating. Westsyde, Rayleigh, Sun Peaks Resort and other locations in the
area feature outdoor rinks maintained by local community groups. All you
need is skates and perhaps a hot cocoa to go. If skating indoors is more your
style, Canada’s Tournament Capital delivers with a number of indoor rinks.
Ice Hockey. Take in a Western Hockey League game with the Kamloops
Blazers, or the Kamloops Storm of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey
League and you’ll experience some of the best hockey in the country.
Indoor Activities. For indoor activities check out the Kamloops Museum and
Archives, with the interactive Children’s Museum or the BIG Little Science
Centre. Have some fun at our indoor pools or try bowling. Take in a movie or
play at a local theatre. If you’re 19+ perhaps take in a self-guided brew tour.
