As I sit here and contemplate what to include in my first contribution to the
LAWS Newsletter as President, which is my first contribution ever, I glance
out my window at the trees and I notice their leaves changing. Reflecting
on this I have realized that change is imminent… summer has turned into
fall and with this comes change. The leaves change to a warm autumn
palate; the days stay warm, but hopefully not humid; the evenings cool off,
ideally not below freezing; and as kids head back to school the lazy days of
summer become the dynamic days of fall. At LAWS, change is also on the
horizon.
It should be no secret that over the past few months, LAWS has faced
some challenges, our financial situation is dire and the number of dogs and
cats currently calling the shelter home far exceeds our maximum capacity.
I believe that in every challenge there lay at least one opportunity and
having recently assumed the President’s position, my goal has been and
will continue to be to seize these opportunities. It is a time to refocus on
four main themes:
1. Our mission as a no kill shelter,
2. Build on our vision of professionalization and modernization,
3. Support our most valuable resources- the human ones, both paid and
volunteer and,
4. Fulfill our goal of finding the appropriate ‘forever homes’ for all of the
animals that come through the shelters door.
Recently LAWS has reached out via the media to the community for the
purpose of transparency regarding our financial crisis. The community has
rallied behind LAWS and the support from communities, both near and far,
has been nothing short of humbling. This has allowed us to now approach
every day with cautious optimism. Personally, this community support has
reinforced my determination to ensure that LAWS remains a sustainable
member of the community. The tireless passion of our dedicated staff and
volunteers is inspirational and further confirms why we must ensure that
LAWS remains a viable service in the area. Failure is not an option!
We recently have welcomed several new Board members who bring a
variety of skill sets that will enhance our current cohort. A strong team at
the Board level will facilitate our successful transition into a new era for
LAWS. As a Board our short-term goal remains navigating our current
<Continued on Pg. 28> 3
You will note that we have included raffle tickets and a stamped,
return envelope with this newsletter. This fundraiser is the largest
of the year thus far. If you are able to do so, we would be grateful
if you would either sell the tickets, or purchase them yourself.
When you sell the tickets, this creates an awareness of the great
need to care for the lost and abandoned animals in Lanark County.
Please return the money, ticket stubs and any unsold tickets in the
envelope provided. We are required by provincial lottery
regulations to account for all tickets we send out, so your
cooperation in returning everything to us would be appreciated.
Please accept our thanks in advance for your assistance in
keeping the animals safe and well until we can find them a forever

THROUGH THE WORDS OF OUR ANIMAL WELFARE
ADVOCATE… Melanie Young
Rescuing animals doesn't always stop when I bring them into the shelter.
Sometimes it becomes a lifetime commitment. Sometimes it takes a little
sacrifice.
I received a desperate call from a girl regarding two male Rottweiler’s,
Harley and Bud, that had lived their entire 9 and 1 1 years in a small 4x6
outdoor kennel, sharing a rotten cold doghouse, a bowl of moldy food, and
loneliness. They had been forgotten. Once JAKE
used to breed they had outlived their
Available
usefulness. Both needed some TLC. Bud for Adoption
was extremely matted and had an
infected eye which turned to jelly and had
sunk into his head. Harley wasn't in as
bad a shape but still had issues, poor old
souls. To think in their last days they
would have to endure such pain and
loneliness. So with the help of the "caller"
they made their way into LAWS.
In a large outdoor kennel they sat scared
and tired. They were examined, treated,
and fed. Both were quiet. Day after day I
would see Bud laying there. I'd have to call
his name many times before he would lift
his massive head. What an awful thing to see! It's like someone’s father or
grandfather being left in a homeless shelter. All dignity gone! How had
these big beautiful creatures ended up here? Lucky for them, here is LAWS,
one of only a handful of no kill
shelters in Canada. With a devoted,
caring, tireless staff Harley and Bud
would be treated with the respect
they so deserve until the day they are
adopted. But who wants an old, tired
Rottie? That's where the foster

:: MANAGER'S REPORT ::
LAWS: A 'No Kill' Shelter
-Nicole Lapratte-Patry
As we, the shelter staff, the volunteers, the Board Members and the
community, strive to keep the Lanark Animal Welfare Society well and
alive as a sustainable organization, I feel that now is the time, more than
ever, to give clear explanation of who we are as a very important service
to the community and as a ``No Kill`` shelter.
The first step to a No Kill Shelter is to make the decision and the
commitment to reject the kill-oriented ways of the past. The next step
involves putting in place the infrastructure to save lives.
Following a commitment to a No Kill Shelter is the need for
accountability. Accountability means having clear definitions, a lifesaving
plan, and protocols and procedure oriented toward preserving life. The
decision to end an animal’s life is a serious one, and should always be
treated as such. Each and every animal is an individual, and each
deserves individual consideration.
As well, in order to meet the challenge that a No Kill entails, shelter
leadership needs to get the community excited, to energize people for
the task at hand. By working with the animal loving public, implementing
lifesaving programs, and treating each life as precious, a shelter can
transform and become an integral part of the community.
The No Kill Shelter Programs and Services Include:
1 . TNR Program (Trap/Neuter/Release Feral Cat Program)
2. High-Volume, Low-Cost Spay/Neuter
3. Rescue Groups
4. Foster Care (caring for sick and injured or behaviorally challenged
animals)
5. Comprehensive Adoption Programs
6. Pet Retention (develop innovative strategies for keeping people and
their companion animals together)
7. Medical and Behavior Prevention & Rehabilitation
8. Public Relations/Community Involvement
9. Volunteers
1 0. Proactive Redemptions (Proactive approach to returning animals to
owners)
1 1 . A Compassionate Manager
And finally, a No Kill shelter and community is one where no savable
animals are killed. Unfortunately, there are some animals who are
hopelessly ill or injured, irremediably suffering, or in the case of dogs,
vicious with a poor prognosis for rehabilitation.

program comes in. A home where they could live out their senior years, I put
out a plea to everyone I knew. All they needed was a quiet place, with some
food, warmth, and a gentle hand. A place where they knew no harm would
ever come to them again. They would be no trouble. No trouble at all!!
Responses were
few. I had already
exhausted my
network of friends.
Harley had
adapted to shelter
life a lot easier
then Bud. He had
found a playmate
(girlfriend) in a
lanky Walker
hound named Iris. PictureItStudio

He seemed happy
and content. Bud on the other hand seemed to fall deeper and deeper into
a depression. No longer could I stand to see his sadness. The motto being,
in my house “What’s one more"! I talked my husband into letting me bring
him home to join our already huge brood of 7 dogs and 4 cats.
Bud is no longer a poor old soul! His days are filled with walks, rolling on
the grass( which he had never ever experienced before) playing with his new
best friend Michael, coincidentally a Walker hound and endless amounts of
good food and of course more love than he could possibly handle. A little
more work? Yes! But the sacrifice of a little time is well worth the joy I get
at seeing that once "poor old soul" finally living the life he so rightly
deserves even if it could only be for a short time.

“ADOPT A BUDDY”
Adopters that have brought home a LAWS cat within the last 2
months are now given the opportunity to choose an adult “Buddy”
cat for that previous cat.
Also… from now on new adopters have a 2 month period to come
back to LAWS to adopt a second (adult) cat for half the regular cost.
“PAWS TO CONSIDER”
Cats are taken home by approved potential adopter(s) for a 2 week
trial period (for example: to see if it will work out with their other
cat, dog, etc…) which can also be considered as a “Foster to Adopt”
opportunity. Food is provided for this 2 week period. After 2 weeks,
the potential adopter is required to adopt the cat if all has gone well.
Please come visit us at L.A.W.S and possibly enrich your life with yet
another wonderful feline “buddy”!

The Benefits of Pets for Seniors
You’ve probably noticed that when you
pet a soft, warm cat or play fetch with
a dog whose tail won’t stop wagging,
you relax and your heart feels a little
warmer. The resulting studies have
shown that owning and handling
animals significantly benefits health,
and not just for the young. In fact,
pets may help elderly owners live
longer, healthier, and more enjoyable
lives.
In our hearts we know that pets enrich
our lives, and in recent years scientific
studies have begun to pin-point the
ways that companion animals improve
our minds and our bodies. Beyond
walks and "fetch," beyond lazy days in
the sun and eager faces at the end of
the day, pets provide documented
health benefits. A report in the
Harvard Health Letter explains that
companion animals have more
consistent behavior compared to our
human companions and that they
offer unconditional affection. The
effect: lower blood pressure, heart
rate, and anxiety level for pet owners.
We repay them with love and
attention. In fact, more than 60
percent of pets receive "as much
attention as children," according to
the American Animal Hospital
Association pet owner survey.
There are a number of explanations
for exactly how pets accomplish all
these health benefits. First of all, pets
PictureItStudio
CAT ADOPTION PROMOTIONS
need walking,
feeding,
grooming,
fresh water,
and fresh kitty litter, and they
encourage lots of playing and
petting. All of these activities
require some action from owners.
Even if it’s just getting up to let a
dog out a few times a day or
brushing a cat, any activity can
benefit the cardiovascular system
and help keep joints limber and
flexible. Consistently performing
this kind of minor exercise can
keep pet owners able to carry out
the normal activities of daily living.
Pets may also aid seniors simply
by providing some physical
contact. Studies have shown that
when people pet animals, their
blood pressure, heart rate, and
temperature decrease.
You will find that a large number
of retirement homes allow
residents to have their own pets
and an increasing number of Long
Term Care Facilities have “live in”
pets such as a residents cat.
This is a win – win for all of us.

These animals are not adoption candidates and sadly, they are sometimes
euthanized, unless hospice care and sanctuaries are available. But since the
No Kill philosophy does not mandate that vicious dogs or irremediably sick
animals be made available for adoption, it is wholly consistent with public
health and safety.
A No Kill shelter is primarily a shift from a reactive to a proactive
orientation and approach and from a casual, ad-hoc, limited
implementation to a comprehensive implementation of Programs and
Services which will lead to the greatest declines in killing animals.
Together, we can all contribute, in our own individual way and in a collective
way, to ensure the longevity of this wonderful life saving shelter that is the
Lanark Animal Welfare Society!

UPCOMING FUNDRAISERS for LAWS
When word spread that the community animal shelter was in financial
need, caring musicians from across Lanark County came forward to offer
their ideas, time and talents. As a result this fall offers many opportunities
for folks to kick up their paws for a great cause.

The musical support started in the first days of fall with Pendle Sutton,
Kirk Armstrong, Chris Collins and the Barley Shakers offering up fiddle,
acoustic and Celtic music that had two and four-legged participants
tapping their toes at Lanark Animal Welfare Society’s first Walk Your
Paws for LAWS Walkathon , in Carleton Place on September 23rd raising
$1 3,000 ! This event was the first in a line-up of exciting musical
fundraisers aiming to help save the shelter.

“Musicians for Mutts” will have taken place in Perth Theatre on October
5th, by the time this goes to print. This event is being orchestrated by local
singer, Kelly Prescott. Kelly Prescott, the daughter of Tracey Brown and
Randall Prescott, a family as famous for their compassion for animals as
they are for their tradition of great music. There are currently nine
creatures within the extended family, most rescues, including Toots the
cat, a one-time resident of LAWS shelter, and Louven, the stray fighting
dog from Barbados who followed Kelly around and soon found himself on a
plane to his new home in the Valley.

Perth Group Creates Its Own LAWS Fundraising Chapter
Since The Lanark Animal Welfare
Society announced that it is facing an
emergency financial situation and
may have to close its doors, many
groups and individuals in the County
have stepped forward to help. A
group of concerned citizens in Perth
have also responded and in
collaboration with LAWS have formed
a LAWS Fundraising Committee – the
Perth Chapter. Driven by a love of
animals and a respect for the
commitment of those at LAWS who
have kept this “No Kill” shelter
operating for more than thirty years, a
small group of people decided that
action was needed now to help save
LAWS. The focus of the Perth
fundraising Chapter will be to raise
awareness of the crisis LAWS is facing
and to raise money to meet this
emergency.
A group of people met at The Best
Western Hotel in Perth in early
September to hear details about the
emergency and to share ideas about
finding a solution. Judy Meyers, pastpresident of LAWS and a current
member of the Board explained that a
number of circumstances merged to
cause the present situation. Financial
donations have declined due to the
economic climate as have bequests
which represent a significant
proportion of LAWS income. The past
12
year saw an extraordinary increase in the
number of animals brought to LAWS thus
placing severe strain on all of LAWS
resources. Complicating matters is the
fact that the shelter facility, located 2
kms west of Smiths Falls, is an old one
requiring increasingly high maintenance
costs.
LAWS is one of only two “No Kill” shelters
in Ontario and survives solely on private
donations. It receives no funding from any
level of government other than
insignificant pound fees. Being a “no kill”
shelter is an expensive undertaking but
one that is well worth the effort and
expense. Mohatma Ghandi said “The
greatness of a nation and its moral
progress can be judged by the way it
animals are treated.” The work of LAWS,
its staff and volunteers and those who
support it through their financial
donations, help OUR community to be a
positive demonstration of Ghandi's
words.
“LAWS saves lives; let us save LAWS”.
This is the mantra of LAWS fundraising
chapter in Perth. There are many ways to
get on board. One way is to come to the
“Rally for LAWS” to take place at the
Perth Farmers Market on Saturday
October 6th beginning at 1 0 am.
Donations will be accepted and tax
receipts issued. For more information
about the Perth Fundraising chapter
contact Susan at 264-0007 or e-mail
susan.m.roach@gmail.com.
<Continued from Pg. 1 1 More Upcoming FUNdraisers!>
Hot on the heels of “Musicians for Mutts” is Pet Fest, the brainchild of Rob
Slack of Slackoni’s and his business partner Janet Ashley whose
enthusiasm turned a small micro-brewery Oktoberfest into a street party
for a cause. Wayne Cavanagh jumped on board to emcee, and organizers
found caring musicians eager to jump in and help. The line-up included the
bands Running Naked, Jack Spinks, and Balsam Blue , and acoustic guitar
and singers Kurtis Armstrong, Kathleen Stroud, and Sara Mitchell , as
well as the songwriting poets of Vine Rymes . Supporting acts along the
street included vendors, Puppy Paws Kids Activity Booth, Laws SHOP
rummage booth , and creature features in Moore House including Ray’s
Reptiles and Matt Ellerbeck who is booked to share his knowledge in his
“Save the Salamanders” presentation. Plans are in place for a silent
auction that will carry over into the evenings much-anticipated “Black-Tie
White-PAWS Dinner” at Slackonis.
Musicians weren’t the only ones who cared when they heard about LAWS
financial and overcrowding concerns. Bark and Fitz of Kanata hosted a
month longs PAWS for L.A.W.S. event in September, and local Pet Valu
stores along with Natural Pet Foods of Carleton Place offered ongoing
support by collecting donations in their stores and donating prizes. Pet
Portraits were offered with proceeds going to LAWS, at Picture It Studio ,
Carleton Place, October 1 2-1 4th, and Mill Street Books in Almonte
invited Clifford the Red Dog to the store to help raise funds for LAWS, to
mention a few of the efforts that were realized on LAWS behalf.
A group of caring local women have come together to host a
SPOOKTACULAR Halloween Party at the Carleton Place Canoe Club ,
Zen … is being hosted in Smith Falls, the ever popular Perth Bazaar, on
October 27th is getting bigger and better every year with baked goods,
crafts, used goods, etc.
Janis Joplin (aka Shelley Montreuil & her band Joplinesque) is set to
strut their stuff in Smith’s Falls (date to be determined) and AMBUSH will
be will also be in Smiths Falls on November 9th with a Solo Cup event.
There will be a L.A.W.S. Booth at Carleton Place Woman’s Fair; on
November 3rd, with another LAWS raffle featuring many lovely prizes.
In the great Ottawa Valley tradition, when there’s a need, people come
forward to fill it and along with the organized fundraiser, there is a
grassroots movement to help at all levels. <Continued on Pg. 1 4>

Concerned animal lovers came forward offering their skills and services,
their time and various items for the raffles and silent auctions. Many
wonderful people are doing all they can to help see LAWS through this
difficult time; including people like Barbara Jordan of Bark Productions
who came forward to offer her Graphic Design expertise, young Nicole
Affleck who baked and sold dog treats, Rose Moses of Perth who
rounded up donations, spread the word and started up a group of
quilters to make quilted items on LAWS behalf, and Claudia Peterkin
who offered to deliver posters for the many events. Keri Healey held a
raffle of amazing prizes raising $6500!
Madelyn Johnson , a teacher of forty years, asked for donations to LAWS
in lieu of gifts at her retirement party on September 23rd, to mention a
few of the thoughtful people who found very useful ways to lend a paw
to LAWS. In the upcoming months, watch for details of LAWS fundraising
events springing up in your communities and watch for new initiatives
coming from a brand Fundraising and Marketing Committee , formed to
create long term sustainable funding through various initiatives. If you
are interested in being a part of this committee or would like further
details on the upcoming events, please contact Liz or Robynne at

Many of you like myself admire and applaud our dedicated wonderful “in
shelter volunteers” who take such good care of our animals in their time of
need. It is not easy to care for an incoming animal that has suffered
neglect or spend hours cleaning litter boxes or dog kennels and those that
do have a strength of character that is to be admired.
I have been donating to LAWS for a long time now and wanted to do more
but didn’t think I could deal with all those animals that only want a loving
home. As so many people tell us “I would like to help but I would want to
take them all home”. When I was invited to become a Board Member I
knew this was an opportunity for me to help in a way that hadn’t occurred
to me before. Although I don’t think I have what it takes to be on the ‘front
lines’ I could be a support and thereby make a difference in the lives of the
animals.
There are so many people with so many gifts that would like to help but
may not have considered being an ‘out of shelter volunteer’. I encourage
you to research and consider what you can do to help. You can do as much
or as little as you choose. Everyone can do something whether it is writing
thank you cards to our generous donors, collecting funds from the
donation cans, distributing or creating event posters or assisting in fund
raisers. Even if you feel the only thing you have is a green thumb – you
could give our perennial beds a face lift and enhance the appearance of the
shelter. All efforts contribute to the well-being of the animals.
On a personal level you will be working with a group of people that share
the same care and empathy for animals. It gives one a sense of community,
you see the kindness of strangers and have the satisfaction of knowing you
are making a difference. It is truly a rewarding experience.

Rummy
Hi there, We adopted Rummy a little over a month ago from LAWS. He has
brought so much love and entertainment into our home and we are so
happy that we were able to give him a nice place to call his own. We have a
few parks and trails nearby that let him follow his nose to his heart's
content and he especially loves time spent up at the cottage.
He loves meeting new dogs and has met a ton of new friends that he gets
to play with - everyone in the neighbourhood comments on how beautiful
he is. He's such a loving dog and became immediately attached to us; the
feeling was mutual and we've had so much fun together. The one thing he
seems to enjoy more than hanging out with us is getting into mischief and
cleaning up any food we leave out on the counter.
Thanks for taking such good care of him!

Hi there Laws! We
adopted our kitty cat
Sarah from Laws in
March 201 0 - she was
just a year old! Since
then, Sarah has grown
into a lazy kitty, her favourite hobbies are eating, sleeping and beating on
her 'brother' (our chocolate lab!) Just a few weeks ago we got Sarah fake
nails to cover her real nails so she would stop scratching our furniture!
Fortunately, she loves her new nails and hasn't chewed them all off. We
love having Sarah in our home and couldn't ask for a better kitty! Thanks
again Laws for allowing us to welcome a wonderful cat into our lives!

A big thank you goes out to Brian Paquette (Zen Dragon Martial Arts and

fundraising event for LAWS. Brian and John came together to put on an
event that was fun and to raise awareness for the shelter; after finding
out the shelter was having financial difficulties. They even arranged for
Santa to make an early visit to Smiths Falls from the North Pole.
Kids, adults and dogs alike got to meet Santa, have their picture taken and
partake in a yummy BBQ. Kate Moody and Jeff did a great job with photos
and setting up Christmas cards for everyone. Master of the grill Brian
donated the food and John took care of all the copying, media and
arranging for the jolly gentleman and elf to attend.
This was such a successful event; a fun day was had by all! Their efforts
raised $424.60 for LAWS. Congratulations to everyone and thank you so
much!
Awwwe… CAT LOVE
Here are a collection of some of the things we love and make us chuckle
about our cats that have been collected by some of my cat friends.
The way they carefully stretch each part of their body after waking from a
nap.
The way they suddenly chase invisible bugs.
The click and chatter noise of a cat hunting birds through the window.
The way they lick compulsively after a particularly clumsy fall. As if to say…
“What? I didn’t just land flat on my behind… I was right here cleaning my
belly all along.” Really! ... Lick, Lick, Lick
When they sit on your lap and touch your face ever so gently with their soft
paws or cover your mouth when you try to speak.
The way they love to “help” make the bed or fold clothes.
The way they like to help us look for their missing toys under the couch or
wherever else they may be.
Do you have a “Cat Love” that I can add to the collection? Please email Pam
at mk8277@aol.com with your own Cat Love, maybe from a recently

PAWS FOR THOUGHT
Are you a person that sees a plea for help and
says to yourself,
“Someone else will help, and everything will
be fine”?
What happens when everyone thinks that
way?
Don’t be the person who says… “I can’t make
a difference”
Don’t be the person who says “But it is only
one kitten from one pet store and that’s not
going to hurt”
Don’t be the person who says… “Someone else will Adopt, Foster
and Donate”
Each choice we make Changes the World .
Stand behind what you believe in.
Be that person who makes a difference.

A POEM TO MY FOSTER DOG
By Diane Morgan
King
Available for Adoption
I am the bridge,
Between what was and what can
be.
I am the pathway to a new life.
I am made of mush,
Because my heart melted when I
saw you,
Matted and sore, limping,
depressed
Lonely, unwanted, afraid to love.
For one little time you are mine.
I will feed you with my own hand.
I will love you with my whole heart.
I will make you whole.
I am made of steel.
Because when the time comes,
When you are well, and sleek,
when your eyes shine,
And your tail wags with joy
Then comes the hard part.
D Kidner
A special thank you to everyone! This event couldn't have happened
without the sponsors and donors, walkers, the media, poster makers and
distributors, yummy dog treats, face painters, entertainers, ticket sellers,
booth and table volunteers, BBQ volunteers, trail markers, set up and tear
down volunteers, station monitors, clean up volunteers and everyone else
who showed up to lend a paw. Thanks to Picture It Studio for all of their
support including taking the photos at the walkathon Great job everyone!
Thank you so much! The help and support of the community was
incredible and will go a long way to helping to save the shelter.

I will let you go-not without a tear,
But without a regret.

Tabitha
Hello Laws
We adopted Tabitha (now Nikki) July 22nd.
We couldn't have asked for a more perfect
cat. She does talk a lot!
She's very active and loves her toys. She has
settled in very well. You can tell by her
picture.
Thank you Laws for completing our family.

Lady
Hello, With now almost 1 0 months
past (where has the time gone?)
since we adopted Lady we are
pleased to write to you and share
with you the attached family photo.
Lady quickly fit in to our household
routine as we all learned what each
other's habits were. Lady loves to go
for long walks afterwhich she comes
home tired and happy.
She enjoys her soft dog bed and will
go there by herself or when we tell
its bed time or time to relax. She
took immediately to her yard and her
dog house.
We look forward to many happy
years with our new friend.
Thank you,
Larry and Mary

LAWS is in Danger of
Closing! - What You
Can Do Help
financial crisis. We have recently
passed a balanced budget that
requires an attainable reduction in
our expenses and we will continue
to focus our efforts on fundraising
and accessing other stable sources
of funding. We will then shift our
focus to building an operating
reserve. This will serve as our
insurance policy to ensure that the shelter never finds itself in this financial
position again. Once we can consistently sustain our current operations,
our long-term goal will be to build an infrastructure that can meet the
needs and demands of the communities we serve.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and volunteers at the
shelter for their devotion to LAWS. The unconditional love that they
provide day in and day out is the one constant that the animals at the
shelter have come to depend on. I’d like to thank the Board Directors, old
and new, for their unwavering willingness to steer LAWS towards
sustainability; our partners and stakeholders for their patience and
understanding as we transition to a professional and modern business
model; and to the community for the ongoing support and encouragement.
As we move forward, please feel free to email me at
president@lanarkanimals.ca with any questions, suggestions or concerns.
There’s an old adage that states: it takes a village to raise a child, that
same village can help the cause for LAWS.

"Walk Your Paws for LAWS"
Here are some other ways you can help
save your local shelter:
Participate in or start a fundraiser:
Fundraising is very important for the
shelter as no money is received from any
level of government and we rely on private
donations and fundraising events.
Consider participating in our upcoming
Walkathon as a walker or volunteer.
Become a volunteer: From walking dogs,
to socializing cats, to general
maintenance, we need your help. Learn all
the different ways you can volunteer.
Become a foster parent: Help us nurture,
care for, and evaluate pets so that we can
find them the perfect forever families.
Find out if you are ready for this
rewarding experience.
Donate supplies: We need canned pet
food, toys, kitty litter, cleaning supplies,
office supplies, and so much more! See
the list of things we need right now.
Donate funds: Donations to LAWS can be
made in person at the shelter, or by mail.
A donation form can be found on our
website. We also accept donations
through Canada Helps by Visa, Master
Card, Amex, Interac and PayPal.
Spread the word: Join us on Facebook
and then promote the adoption of rescue
animals by telling your friends.
