BUS HOP AN AFTER HOURS ADVENTURE AT THE QUILT STORE... hanging samples with a toddler’s assistance. We analyze the pile to be hung. She runs down the aisle, pausing when a bright bolt catches her eye, spots the butterflies in the pattern and giggles. We pick two starting spots and get out the drills and ladders. She’s off to the toy corner to put dolly to bed. We take down two quilts. She helps Dad get a longer hanging stick. Oh, that bottom stair makes a great place to sit. What’s that pile of quilts doing by the ladder? Help Mom hand the drill to Grandpa. Hide behind the box of bolts. Grab my coloring book and get Grandma to sit and color with me. Wait here, Grandma, I’ll be right back…. Some nights we get a lot hung, and some nights not as much, but it’s always an adventure. QUILT HISTORY IN THE MAKING… QUILT SHOW BULLETIN BOARD One of the oldest surviving examples of European quilts dates from about 1395 A.D. and is in The Victoria & Albert Museum in London. It is one of three trapunto quilts made in a Sicilian workshop. The quilt depicts 14 scenes from the battle of Tristan, and was probably crafted by a group of artisans. It may have been a wedding gift to Laodomia Acciaiuoli and Piero di Luigi Guicciardini in 1395.
