March 2011 www.quiltersguildofparkercounty.org Quilter’s Guild of Parker County Upcoming Programs & Events 2011 March 17 Guild Meeting Speaker Cindy Needham www.cindyneedham.com March 19 Workshop Love of Linens April 14 Guild Meeting From the President’s Corner First, I would to thank Beverly and her Board for a wonderful year. Now for those that don’t know me here is some basic information. I was born and raised in New Jersey worked for Johnson & Johnson for almost 34 years in various positions. When Bob & I got married I took early retirement. After Bob retired from New York City we relocated to the Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri where I was introduced to quilting by one of our new found friends. I have been quilting ever since. Seven years later we came to Texas to be near family and a new granddaughter. It didn’t take long to find the Quilter’s Guild of Parker County. I am honored that you have elected me President. Thanks to all of you, I have learned a lot and am still learning every day. There are many talented members, who so willingly share their knowledge, that it is a pleasure to be here. These same people are a treasure trove from which I was able to obtain volunteers for the new Board and Committee positions. PCQG 6th Annual Quilt Auction Thursday, May 19, 2011 Fun starts at 6pm Something Old... Last year our Auction was a great success, and my philosophy for this year is if everyone does the same thing they did last year, our Auction can’t help but be another great success! For our new members, that means that our Bees and individuals are all working on big quilts, little quilts and everything in between to donate to the live auction. As always, we will still have our .25 cent and $1 raffle drawings. Something New… To make our auction even more exciting, we are adding this cool, new feature. We are calling it “TAKE IT FOR $10”. For just $10 you could purchase items such as jelly rolls, charm packs, fat quarters, yardage etc., OR for $10 you could purchase a “service” such as: * getting a baby quilt quilted * getting a small quilt binded Protect Yourself and Your Family Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. Jo Lynn O’Neil’s email is jolynnoneil@gmail.com. Library News I’m looking forward to seeing what Cindy Needham has to show us. She’s an author of her own book, Wholecloth Linen Quilts. Also, she’s had her designs featured in Quilters Newsletter Magazine and articles in American Quilter Magazine. On her “blog” on the internet are wonderful examples of her machine quilting and antique linens with lace and pearl embellishments. We are in for a real treat. Unfortunately, we don’t have any of her books. Remember we have two cabinets of a large variety of books. They are listed on the guild web site by author and title in alphabetical order. I also have a budget to buy books if there’s one you want but would like to only use and share with others in the guild, let me know. Now would be a good time to go through your books at home, “Spring cleaning.” Donate them to sell at the auction or some other fund raiser in the future. Remember the FREE magazine table. Donate any you want to pass on, take the ones your interested in, you don’t even need to keep them forever, bring them back next month. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the guild meeting. Linda and Mary Houston St. Mercantile fabrics & quilting Sunshine & Shadows There has certainly bee plenty of sunshine for all us recently. It is wonderful and good to see warm sunshine in our soul and body. Sunshine: Kathleen Poznick’s sister is doing much better. Kathleen says she will have to learn to live on a salt-free diet. I know this will not be an easy undertaking. J.R. Hall, Myra Hall’s husband, is home and doing much better after 2 days in the hospital in Ft. Worth. J.R. was having some problems with his heart and still needs our prayers and concerns. Grace Jackson had knee surgery and is home and doing well. Shelly Pace’s husband, Harold is home and doing well. He had no headaches and went through the radiation just fine. Shelly and Harold both thank all of you for the prayers. Shadows: Irene Cox lost her husband. Please remember Irene and give her a call.
