Introducing Manfred Holweck
Manfred was an active member of NSW before moving to QLD. He was our first life
member and has considerable knowledge on buckskins and duns and is more than
approachable. If you see him at the local shows in the QLD area, please stop and say
hello and I am certain that you will get a welcome smile and an invite to stop and yarn a
while! He and his wife Jackie have generously agreed to be liaison officers for us in the
QLD area.
Committee Report
After many years of discussion, we have decided to accept memberships and
registration/transfer of horses from Queensland under certain conditions.
We have an active life member in Queensland who is more than happy to liaise for us in
that state. If you have any questions etc on registration please do not hesitate to contact
him.
Please send any news of photos for inclusion in either the newsletter or on our website.
Good Luck to everybody competing at Sydney Royal.

Always There Are the Horses
I ride because I rode as a child when life was simpler and somehow more complete.
Only the whiff of a clean horse is needed to remind of days gone by.
For always there have been the horses.
I ride because of all the great horse souls who have shared their lives with me and taught me more than I can
say. Their names and faces flash before me as old friends.
I ride because of all the horses I shall never ride.
Those I have watched and marvelled at from afar for all their grace and beauty.
This is the stuff of a child's dream, the kind that doesn't die with time.
Always there are the horses.
I ride because the seasons call to me.
Each unique in its appeal and all quite frequently best viewed from the back of a favourite horse.
I ride because of all things, horses are my passion.
They inspire and encourage, energize, and challenge in ways I cannot explain to the uninitiated.
I ride because of the rush of stretching one's self just a bit farther today than before both mind and body.
Always there are the horses.
I ride because of those briefest of spans when the partnership comes to full promise.
When the path twists and barriers fall, each footfall is measured and balanced between the two as a dance.
There are no others ... only this moment and this single step to ride.
The memories of those times stand vivid in my mind to be recalled with all the freshness of the day at will and
in times less grand.
But if I must choose, I ride because I have dreams yet to live.
I ride because I have dreams yet to have and what exactly they will be tomorrow I cannot say but always
there will be the horses.

NOTICE OF MOTION
I would like to put forward a notice of motion for the 2007 AGM.
To change the yearly renewal of Memberships Fees from 1 January to 1 July
I feel that it may take a bit of financial strain off members, as the Buckskin Nationals are in December, and also
the price of fuel being high it may break up the cost a little bit and people would also be financial for the Easter
Show.

Woranora Pony Stud has have two buckskin foals born this year
One a filly out of Stanton Park Peggoty by Woranora Tempest (making her a 3/4 sister to Pollyanna) which has
been sold to Kate Prince in Queensland and a colt (gelding) out of Woranora Caitlin by Tempest which has
been sold to Michelle Waters of Quakers Hill. At the moment they still both look like yaks so photos look like
golden furballs.

Mindarie Pony Stud has another coloured foal by Mercutio. A Section B filly this time. His son Mistro hit

Vale True Reflection
6th January 2006 - 26th December 2006
Known to most people as Milly, a buckskin Filly by Heste Arabique First Impression who touched the heart of everyone
who has the pleasure of meeting her. Milly was simply beautiful in everyway, truly one of kind and a pleasure to own from
the time she was born. I still remember the night like it was yesterday, around 10.30pm the foal alarm went off in my
bedroom, I ran out to my gorgeous mare that was on the ground with 2 little feet already sticking out. Five minutes past
and I had a gorgeous buckskin filly! The first thing you could see was her stand out blaze! Placed perfectly on her face, a
face of an Arabian, you could have sworn she was a purebred! She was standing pretty quickly and I was the first person
she walked to, not her mother, not any of the 6 other people standing around watching...me. She picked me. It was the
happiest day of my life! I had been waiting 11 months for this day and it all went according to plan! I could not have asked
for a better birth or a better foal!
Milly was understanding and trustworthy, taking everything I threw at her in her stride. She knew that I was inexperienced
with babies, having only the experienced I gained from King Estate (thanks guys). She learnt to lead and tie up, have rugs
on and even her first bath just a few weeks after she was weaned! She was the easiest baby I have ever dealt with and I
am so thankful for the experience I have gained from her.
Milly received some halter lessons from Kirsten and then from Adam King. She went to her first show on the 3rd
December 2006, the Young stock Championships at Hawkesbury Showground and then her 2nd (and last) show on the
10th December 2006 for the Buckskin Nationals. These were he practice show's leading up to East Coast Championships
and then Australian Championships where the hopes that she would carry on her father's name were high. Her potential
will never be known but I know in my heart that she would have been a superstar, if not in the halter ring then in the
saddle ring later in life. Milly injured herself Christmas night; however was not found till feed time on Boxing Day morning.
She had torn her tendons on her hind leg, right through to the bone, as well as dislocating her fetlock joint. She was put to
sleep and buried on the property.
I would like to thank everyone who has helped over the past year. Special thanks to Adam & Dave from King Estate for
the loan of the foaling alarm and the halter lessons. Thanks to Kirsten for the halter & float training. And finally a big
thank-you to Viv, for the use of her stallion to produce the best horse that has ever walked into my life.

Hair Testing Analysis
For the benefit of our members we would like to inform all members that
“Hair Test Analysis” is available to both members of the NSW Buckskin
Association and other interested parties. Hair testing has been available
for the last 2 years and this useful service has already been utilised by our
members.
The Service is offered by the University of Queensland at a cost of $60:00.
It must be noted that horses of previously “questionable “ colour that are
presently registered with the NSW Buckskin Association were tested using
this method prior to acceptance for registration.
Whilst the NSW Buckskin Association endeavours to ensure that the only
“True” Buckskins are registered with our association and thus ensuring that
the only horses of the true Buckskin colours can be shown. We
unfortunately have no control over the registration methods used by other
Buckskin societies Australia wide.
For further information on Hair Testing Analysis, please contact the
Secretary Jane Newton.

From The Freeman Family
Thank You to ALL The PEOPLE who assisted with the evacuation of our horses and
ponies when the Cranebrook fires came a bit to close to home.
A special mention to Joanne and Greg Alchin who never fail to ring when a fire is near to
make sure that we are OK. Greg just made me promise in the middle of the confusion, that
if it did come, I would leave… He was concerned about having ½ a dozen more mouths to
feed. The favour will be returned… I just hope that you never have to ask.
The next Newsletter will be out after Sydney Royal. Please send in articles for
the Newsletter. Do you have any foals.. Send us photos and info…
We wish everybody success in the coming show season and look forward to
catching up around the shows.
Remember Memberships are now due
Good Luck to all Members Showing at Sydney Royal
