and workmanship for a period of six months following purchase. Our Smokers Apron is replacement guaranteed for one year from
date of purchase. Skil-Care wheelchair cushions are sold with a one-year guarantee except those cushions specifically noted as
having an 18-month guarantee. All alarm electronic units are sold with a one-year guarantee except the Econo-Alarm and Door/
Window Alarm, which are guaranteed for six months. Pressure-Check and Perimeter-Guard mattresses are sold with a seven-year
non-prorated guarantee on foam components only. Visco Foam Mattresses are sold with a five-year non-prorated guarantee on foam
components only. Skil-Care will replace any product found to be defective under conditions of normal use within its guarantee period.

Fall Safety
Alarms
Skil-Care Corporation has developed a complete line of innovative Fall Prevention products including safety alarms.
Skil-Care’s Alarms focus on: ease of use, functionality, flexibility and durability and are designed to be used in many
situations including bed, chair, door, floor & window.
Functionality was achieved through effective design, the use of Auto-reset functions, easy mounting and attachment
and a choice of alarm tones, including a new “music” alarm tone, which supports noise reduction efforts in the facility.
Flexibility was achieved by designing the Pro Series of Alarms which include the Chair-Pro, Multi-Pro and BedPro
which can all be used for any location namely bed or chair.
The accompaning charts below explain the progressive features and benefits of the ChairPro, Multi and BedPro alarms.
All of the pressure sensors shown on the following pages can be utilized on any of the “Pro” alarm units. All Pro Series
alarms provide an audio alarm at the electronics box and in addition the Multi and BedPro alarms have a choice of music
or alarm tone, and nurses call capabilities. The BedPro alarm also provides the option to silence the audio alarm at the
resident site while utilizing the nurse call system feature, and also comes with an optional a/c adaptor.
Durability is incorporated through solid state components imbedded in heavy duty circuit boards and a heavy duty
outside housing. All electronics units are guaranteed for one year.
Sensor Pads are guaranteed from 45 days up to two years which reduce life-cycle costs.
Chair-Pro and BedPro alarms are sold as sets which include: sensor, electronics, batteries and accessories.
The MultiPro is sold as a separate component and the user can choose one or more sensors.

How do you place an at risk resident on a pressure relieving wheelchair cushion without taking away their
ability to self-propel?
Skil-Care has developed a complete line of pressure relieving wheelchair cushions which address the above problem. The Thin-Line
wheelchair cushions on the following pages provide the best pressure relieving characteristics at a reduced height. It must be
understood that when reducing the height of the cushion there is a trade off when the lower height (1.5” or less) should be limited to
resident’s under 150lbs. It is for this reason that we are also including 2.5” thick cushions in this section which we consider to be in
the maximum range of Thin-Line. For a complete listing of cushions of all thicknesses refer to pages 17-32. These cushions allow the
resident to self-propel, keep the resident’s feet at a normal height, while providing comfort and pressure relief.

Research suggests that skin, the largest organ of the body begins to fail along with other organs as the body ages.
Residents most at risk are those with impaired transfer or bed mobility. Several tools have been developed to assess
pressure ulcers. The F314 tag which is the Federal tag that specifically addresses pressure ulcers references the
push tool (pressure ulcer scale for healing). The push tool is comprised of three variables: Surface area (L x W),
exudate amount and tissue appearance. A scale of 0 indicates that the ulcer is resolved and the highest score of 17
indicates degeneration. The score is then plotted over time to determine if there is healing or degeneration.
Wounds of other etiologies are addressed in F309.
The F314 serves as an effective guide line for prevention and treatment of pressure sores.

Geri-Chair
Accessories
Positioning and Comfort for residents in Geri-Chairs is important to provide proper spinal alignment, to allow better
breathing and proper digestion. The healthcare professional should pay special attention to the resident’s ability to
egress the Geri-Chair otherwise the Geri-Chair becomes categorized as a restraint. Since double restraining is

The use of bed rails is controversial among health care professionals. Some assert that the products are restraints
that invade residents rights and introduce the risk of entrapment of arms and legs within the rail bars.
In contrast, many caregivers prefer to use bed rails to prevent bed falls and also to provide assistance

Exercise
As the body ages several physical changes take place namely, the skin becomes thinner and less elastic, there is a loss of muscle

Pelvic/Waist Control
A very controversial issue in long term care facilities is the use of restraints. The prevailing policy regarding restraints is to use
them when necessary but document the use, utilize the least restrictive device as necessary, and discontinue use as early as
possible. If a resident is a danger to him or herself, to others or requires emergency medical treatment, restraints may be appropriate.
When the decision to use restraints is made, careful attention should be made to size and application. If there is doubt about use
of a restraint, a Skil-CareTM representative may be helpful in suggesting a functional equivalent.
