Opens October 7 Educated slave Nat Turner led a rebellion of slaves in 1831, resulting in the deaths of about 60 white people, the random killing of 200 black people by civilians and militia, the execution of 57 participants in the rebellion and new, more repressive laws prohibiting education and assembly of slaves and free blacks.
