At Carlyle we understand that just picking a different fabric color doesn’t make
it custom. That’s why we have an easy process that allows you to determine
every aspect of your sofa — from the arm and leg styles, to the back height
and width, to the firmness of the cushions.
Each alteration is made with your personal comfort in mind. And of course
every sofa can be constructed with our world famous sofa bed built right

The Famous Sofa Bed
Carlyle is known for uniquely comfortable sofa beds. Albert de Matteo,
our company founder, invented the Steelweave mechanism, and it enabled
him to create a comfortable, long-lasting sofa bed. Al found that steel, not
plastic and fabric, was the best material to use to produce a sofa bed of the
highest quality. Have you ever experienced that uncomfortable bar in the
middle of the sofa bed? You didn’t like it and neither did Al. He designed the
mechanism to have three lateral supports and got rid of the bothersome
middle bar. Then, he attached the incredibly sturdy Steelweave mechanism
to a steel frame. That’s why you can sit on any part of our sofa bed and
not feel thrown off balance. This is perfect for breakfast in bed or
sitting on the edge to tie your shoes.

Once the Steelweave mechanism was created and our sofa beds
were perfected, we wondered what else could we do to create
a restful sleep? The answer: offer a wide range of exceptionally
comfortable mattresses. Today you can choose from five
different mattresses: Standard, Deluxe, Reversible, Qualux foam,
and Air filled. They range in firmness and thickness. No matter
which one you select, you can be confident your guest will
have a good night’s sleep because each mattress is designed to
optimize the comfort of sleeping on a Carlyle sofa bed.

Standard
Cushion Refill Options
Our Standard mattress, which is four inches thick, is included with each sofa
bed and chair bed. The Standard is firm and is built for a comfortable night’s
sleep, with coil springs and an outer layer of quilted poly/cotton ticking.
After years of lounging on your favorite cushion, it might be time to replenish
the fill. We will send a member of our service team to your home to take
measurements and collect the existing casings. Careful measurement will ensure
that your casings will be perfectly refilled. After being filled at our factory, the
cushions are shipped back to you for both you and your sofa to enjoy.
Deluxe
The Deluxe, five inches thick, is for those seeking a softer mattress. The Deluxe
mattress is naturally luxurious due to additional coils and quilted top ticking of
Khaki cotton/poly twill (60/40).
Reversible
Like the Deluxe, this mattress has a luxurious feel and a height of five inches.
The double padding allows the mattress to be flipped over, so it lasts longer.
If you use your sofa bed frequently, we recommend this mattress.
Qualux Foam
Carlyle customers often invest in the 4.5” thick Qualux foam mattress. It is our
firmest mattress and allows two people to sleep comfortably without feeling
each toss and turn.
Reupholstery
Reupholstery can give your piece a facelift. We strip the sofa down to the
frame to apply new padding. We also tighten up anything that may have come
loose. New foam and fabric are expertly added. Your reupholstered sofa will
look and feel brand new.
Slipcovers
Slipcovers will protect your sofa from shedding animals and sticky fingers.
They can transform your sofa from season to season. And a slipcover can create
a new look to complement a change in decor — whether formal, with welting
and a skirt, or casual, with loose informality. We have many options and will be
happy to help you choose your new sofa look.
Air Mattress
The Air Mattress is our thickest mattress. It requires only the click of a button
to inflate and deflate and can be adjusted to your preference. We include a
memory pump that will automatically turn off once the mattress is completely
inflated or deflated.

Comfort is personal. We know that everyone’s comfort varies and that is why we
offer a wide range of cushion fills for you to choose from. You can try out the many
luxurious options we provide when you visit the showroom. Our knowledgeable
sales associates will help you choose the seat and back cushions that are best for you,
and will tell you how to keep your cushions feeling comfortable and looking good.
We take great pride in the fact that our furniture is made right here in the USA.
Our family owned and operated factory is located just 30 minutes from Manhattan,
as it has been for over 50 years. Some of the faces have changed over time, but
what hasn’t changed is our attention to detail and the care we put into each and
every piece. We still make everything we sell one at a time and by hand.
