Picacho Idol - Picacho Hills Country Club
February 2011 o h c Pica l o d I www.picachohillscc.com 2nd Annual!!! Dinner & Show Saturday February 26th 5:30 pm $25 Reservations Required Daniel Natividad, General Manager February typically means the weather is getting warmer, the days are getting longer and the grass is getting greener. February promises to be a busy month at the Club so be sure to check your calendars. First and foremost I would like to announce our Employee of the Month, Nathan Blackham. Nathan has been with us for about six months now and is assistant to our Sous Chef. He attended Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is a great addition to our team! Please join me in giving Nathan a great big PHCC High Five! Included with your February statement will be a letter from ownership and management, proposing future projects and our long term goals here at the Club. Please take the time to read this letter over, your timely response is greatly appreciated and necessary as we move forward. Please direct any questions you may have to me personally. On Saturday, February the 26th, PHCC will host our second annual “Picacho Idol” a dinner, talent showcase, and dance for all members who wish to showcase a special talent and or just want to have a great time. This event had great reviews last year. A panel of members will act as the judges for these performances and the Club will be offering some generous prizes for the top three contestants. A special Thank You goes out to Jack Hokanen and our Advisory Board for putting this event together. Please contact an Advisory Board member or the front office for more information. This year we will also be changing our Valentines Day dinner format. Being that Vday falls on a Monday, and being that we are typically closed on Mondays in the restaurant, we will have a special Three Course Steak, Lobster and Champagne dinner offered Thursday thru Saturday prior to Valentines Day. Please call us and we will gladly take your reservation. “I don't understand why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine's Day. When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a deadly weapon. “ -Anonymous As always, See you at the Club. Valentine’s Dinner Thursday, Friday & Saturday ~ February 10th, 11th & 12th Steak, Lobster & Champagne $80 per Couple ~ RESERVATIONS REQUIRED ~ From the Advisory Board... The Advisory Board met Thursday, January 13, 2011. Hope everyone in the club is enjoying the activities and facilities at PHCC, and some of the best weather in the Southwest. It was reported to the board that the divot mixture box discussed last month has been ordered and will be in use as soon as it arrives and can be set up for membership use…I hope everyone one will take advantage of this setup. Picacho Idol Evening has been set for Saturday, February 26, 2011, and Jack Hokkanen our vice president of the board, will be coordinating the event. Jack and your board will be busy recruiting new talent for this year’s event. The acts for the evening will have a time limit of 6 to 7 minutes. Performing members can include non-members in their act. Look for upcoming promotions of the event through e-mail, the news letter, posters and signs. Sign up early as the capacity for the evening will be at 70 people…following the competition there will be a DJ with Karaoke. Everyone needs to mark their calendars for The Picacho Hills Country Club Annual Meeting; to be on Wednesday, March 16, 2011. Having our annual meeting on Wednesday evening, the Club’s full services will be available to the membership (dinner, cocktails, etc.). We hope that this will encourage the membership to attend and take an active roll in our club. We will be electing two positions to serve on the board; if you are interested see Jeanne DeArment or one of your board members. The board serves as a liaison between the ownership and management and its members. We really would like to have a representation from a cross section of the membership. Look for a letter from the ownership and management, which will invite members to review two or three projects the Club would like to carry out in addition to its long term plans. Please direct any questions you may have concerning this matter to Daniel Natividad. Just a reminder that the Club’s guidelines for special functions at PHCC…the club’s facilities can be secured for private events: anniversaries, birthdays, and memorials (celebrations of life). Religious ceremonies are not permitted. See you on the Hill! Welcoming Picacho Hills Country Club’s New Members Chris Drumm David & Wendy Dever Gary Noble, Head Golf Professional Last year’s snow and ice is only a memory and although this year has given us numerous frosty mornings, we know that Spring is coming fast and with it the warming and longer days that make our lives here in New Mexico so enjoyable. Bring a friend, come out to the Club and enjoy them! Our tournament plate has two great February events on it, the Couples’ Valentine tournament and dinner on Saturday, February 12, and the Men’s Golf Association Two-Man Scramble on February 26. Both are scheduled for 9:00 am starts, although Jack Frost may have his say in it. The Golf Shop has some new arrivals, with the ever-popular Annika Collection for women from Cutter and Buck, and our new logo is featured on men’s long-sleeved mocks from Heritage Cross. Callaway and TaylorMade have sent some demo irons for you to try. Callaway features the Diablo Edge irons, and TaylorMade introduces the Burner 2.0, a great looking iron that has many game-improvement features in a traditional looking head. Try them out and we will order just what you need to get your game in gear. Looking ahead, March comes in like a lion around here, and so do the great events here. Look for flyers announcing the Adopt-a-Hole program for 2011, with a meeting and burger cookout on March 4. The traditional O’Blarney Catholic Schools fundraiser is scheduled for March 14, and the Sun Country Amateur Golf Association presents their first major of 2011 with the New Mexico- West Texas Stroke play on March 19 and 20 right here at PHCC. The Beat the Wind event will challenge four-player teams on March 26, and the month ends with the LGA Member-Member on the 28th and 29th of March. The Dona Ana High School Classic golf tournament will also be contested on the 28th in the afternoon following the ladies’ event. So much is going on, come out and enjoy! LADIES GOLF ASSOCIATION Sandpiper Bits Well, I should never have mentioned how beautiful our golf weather was in December! January started with our first Tuesday having a frost delay until after 11 AM and only playing 9 holes. THEN, the second Tuesday had a forecast so poor that we canceled (not done very often). Those brave souls who did play received a point towards their year-end payouts. Our third Tuesday was beautiful, but then again on our important Jill of the Hill Tuesday, it was pretty cold (but sunny). Of course, the weather didn’t deter our first Jill of the Hill for 2011 – Kaye Frye. Just a reminder to our members, there are lots of things to sign up for at the beginning of each year – Ringer ($5 to Naomi Rupp), Hole-in-One ($2 to Mary Struss), Border ($15 to Tina Clayton), Seniors ($15 to Dee Dillon). The 2011 Directories are available in the golf shop– thanks to lots of work from Jeanne DeArment. Copies should be distributed in the next week and after that they are available from the Pro Shop. As usual, an extra copy is available to you for the amazing price of only $1 – see Jeanne DeArment. We are trying to catch up with the 21st century! Thanks to Naomi Rupp, we have a website www.phlga.weebly.com which contains the latest information about our organization. Our PHLGA Directory contains the schedule as we knew it at the time of printing, but there are always changes and additions – these will all be on the website. Also, we will be keeping a copy of our constitution (for those who really get into this type of thing (like yours truly). Information about our tournaments and some outside events will also be available. We will also be doing our annual scrapbook electronically this year. That doesn’t mean you have to go online to see any pictures – they will be on the website, but also will be printed out for a hard-copy scrapbook. It won’t be as fancy as previous years, but we hope it will be more economical. We have many talented members and three of them – Donna Wood, Jeanne DeArment and Rosemary McKeown, will be part of “For the Love of Art” on Sunday, Feb. 6th at the Picacho Mountain Visitor’s Center. They would welcome your support. We would like to welcome our new members for 2011 – Rita Bureman ,Wendy French and returning member Judy Folkman. Marlys Kleppe will again be our Membership Chair, so anyone interested in joining our Tuesday 18 hole group may contact her at 527-5138. In February, we are looking forward to the Valentine’s Tournament on February 10th, hosted by the Sandpipers and “Take Out Tyler” – our version of Beat the Pro – on the 15th.
