Nitrate Removal and TDS Reduction of
Potable Water Supply.
In September 2004, Evoqua Water Technologies, formerly
USFilter, commenced a twelve–month contract with the Salinas
Valley State Prison in Soledad, California to reduce the total
dissolved solids (TDS) and remove nitrate from the facility’s
potable water supply.
Water samples from the Salinas Valley State Prison found that
the ground water supply had TDS and nitrate levels well above
the Potable Drinking Water Standards.
Evoqua Water Technologies was contacted after a referral
from the California Department of Health Services for possible
treatment options.
Evoqua supplied a Mobile Reverse Osmosis system with four
FlexRO® units to help meet the water specifications set by the
California Department of Health Services. The FlexRO unit is
a portable, skid-mounted, self-contained unit that provides a
flow rate of 100 gpm and is ideal for temporary use. Evoqua
Water Technologies developed an automatic blending valve
purposely to blend the RO permeate with the well water
to meet the desired water quality. This project included
scheduled service with 24-hours, seven days per week
responsibility.
A Mobile Reverse Osmosis system from Evoqua Water Technologies
provides temporary treatment for nitrate removal and TDS reduction.
Significant Accomplishments
Evoqua was able to meet the one-week delivery and start-up
time for the Salinas Valley State Prison.
Evoqua Water Technologies equipment is approved for use by
the California Department of Health Services.
Engineers at Evoqua Water Technologies developed an
automatic blending valve specifically for this project.
