They will express the need to look beyond stereotypes of gender and sexual orientation and let go of pre-conceived rules de- fining “masculine”, “feminine”, “couple” and “family”. In portraits, weddings, maternity sessions and children one needs to open their mind and be receptive to cues from their clients. Honing one’s craft through the study of classic posing and lighting is the essence of professional photography, but traditional “male” and “female” posing that emphasizes outdated notions of strength or passivity limits our ability to portray our clients as they see themselves. For all couples, both straight and gay, gender, body size and choice of clothing are no longer the clear cut criteria to select primary and secondary subjects for a wedding portrait or studio session. Some of the topics covered in Paul and Caryn’s program will be: Who is featured when faced with two grooms in identical suits or two brides in full length gowns? How does a photographer pose two women for a maternity portrait when Continued on Page 5 Monthly Dinner Meeting March 25, 2014 Eldorado III Restaurant 784 Central Park Ave. Scarsdale, NY 10583 914-713-3993 6:00pm Reg & Conversation 7:00pm Dinner 8:00pm Speaker Photo NorthEast April 5-7, 2014 Woodcliff Lake, NJ M.A.R.S. Honey DeLapa, who graced us with her presence from 'way up north. Critiquing was fierce, listening to good and bad comments by all three, with varying degrees of favor or not. A VERY educational experience. AND the Carol Phillips 2013 Plaque was awarded to June Greenspan - congrats to you, June. Save March 25th for our next General Meeting and learn from Paul Bernstein and Caryn Benjamin, presenting their Program on Contemporary Photography: Moving Past Gender Stereotypes. NOW find a friend that doesn’t know we exist, and invite them to a meeting. YOU GET 5 NICASTRO POINTS (for $$$ towards our State School tuition) when you convince them to join WPPA. Since Aspiring membership has been reinstated, a prospective member can join us for a pittance (only Section Dues) for the first year, so GO GET 'EM, to join WPPA. YOU HAVE TO BE HERE if you wish to talk (and listen) to other photogs telling of their experiences in photography, both GOOD and BAD. You can learn a lot, but to hear, you have to BE HERE. Isn’t that what it’s all about??? Sincerely, Frank WPPA President Frank Mohalley has returned from his operation and is looking and feeling great. Welcome Back Frank!
