ZF SERVICES Up2DATE April 2016 ZF SERVICES Up2DATE April 2016 Helmut Ernst Chairman of the Board of Directors, ZF Services 3 IN BRIEF IN BRIEF Acquisition of industrial gears and wind turbine gearbox segment Foray into the industrial sector EXPANDED PORTFOLIO: By acquiring the industrial and wind turbine gearbox segment from Bosch Rexroth, ZF has strengthened its range of products in the industrial gear sector. This acquisition is part of the technology company’s declared business objective of consistently expanding its non-automotive business activities. It also marks ZF’s entry into the world of industrial gears, which are used for oil drilling platforms, tunnel drilling machines and cable cars, for example. The newly acquired wind turbine gearbox expertise is a powerful addition to ZF’s already Connectivity with deTAGtive logistics Cargo monitoring in real time TRANSPARENT AND COSTEFFECTIVE: With its “deTAGtive logistics” feature, ZF Services has once again enhanced its open telematics platform openmatics with useful functions. Its new deTAGtive logistics feature enables valuable freight to be monitored without interruption in real time. The heart of this interactive technology are the tiny sensors in the form of a business card that are installed wirelessly on pallets or transport containers thanks to Bluetooth Smart technology. Depending on need, planners can use the web application to access information on the freight location, jarring or jolts and temperature, but also on light and humidity. The innovative connectivity feature offers many options and functions that will be reported on in more detail in Up2DATE. ∙ existing activities in wind power technology. Beyond emissions and emission limits, environmental sustainability also means doing a better job of conserving our resources. The concept of remanufacturing at ZF Services has long been a key to this because it guarantees a perfectly functioning material cycle. Today, at ten Remanufacturing without borders locations on four continents, many components are being remanufactured, including passenger car transmissions. However, for many markets and for non-ZF transmissions, there has not been one global turnkey solution so far. The only option left for repair shops is often doing makeshift repairs on defective transmissions or installing expensive new ones. For end customers, such approaches represent a high risk or are prohibitively expensive. Remanufacturing is a tradition at ZF. Since 1962, remanufacturing components with new OEM-quality parts have provided a fast and sustainable repair solution. Now, ZF Services is rolling out groundbreaking pro cesses for remanufacturing non-ZF transmissions around the world: a milestone, which not only international car manufacturers and their aftersales business will benefit from, but also the local fleet operators who will soon need only one contact person for this service. China as pilot market As an expert system solutions supplier, ZF Services has brought its global remanufacturing strategy up to the next level by creating new processes that will considerably benefit more market partners than in the past. The project was implemented in less than one year. Dr. Jun Xu, head of sales at ZF Services in China, explains: “China was a particularly good choice as a pilot market because the strict trade laws forbid the import of used or remanufactured mechanical-electrical parts for sales, so that frequently only new products can be imported, which is costly.” AS GOOD AS NEW Remanufactured transmissions are just as good as new ones in terms of quality. Remanufactured products help conserve resources and are quickly available. 6 ZF SERVICES Up2DATE April 2016 ZF SERVICES Up2DATE April 2016 7 TITLE STORY This meant that the Chinese market was unable to OES workshop and also pick up the cores from benefit from the well-established material cycles there on behalf of Chrysler. Following the strict standards of volume production, remanufactured products are subject to the same demanding processes, measurements and testing as volume production products.
