East Course Renovation - Farmington Country Club
South Side Phase East Course Renovation & Practice Complex CONCEPTUAL - SCREENED VIEW FROM FARMINGTON DRIVE As you can see in the conceptual rendering above, golfers and the tops of carts were purposefully depicted to show scale and placement of cart parking, to preserve views from Farmington Drive. The grade of cart parking is below Farmington Drive. As this concept evolves, the screening will be further developed, but options such as making it taller, shorter, made out of stone or greenery are being considered. The ultimate result is to preserve Farmington’s front entrance with an adequate budget that will enhance its appearance. CONCEPTUAL Strengthening Community The Master Plan will aim to strengthen the Farmington community by enhancing opportunities for enjoyable and meaningful interaction among members, guests and staff and by sustaining traditions that have connected members of the Club for generations. In 2011, an in-depth study of the existing facility was conducted to determine if the needs outlined on the left could be addressed. The findings highlighted Farmington as having the only non-full-flight range in its geographic market, no designated instruction area with up-to-date teaching tools, and no real golf course conditions for game simulation. The study also concluded that holes 6 and 7 of the East Course is the only land large enough to successfully develop a new range that meets the expectations and desires of the membership and allow Farmington to remain relevant in a competitive market. The vision of the East Course renovation and new practice facility is to create an environment that all levels of golfers will enjoy. The course is designed so three generations of family members can all play the same course and have a fun, exciting and challenging experience together in under two hours. Golfers today are pressed for time and can’t always play a full round of golf, so many desire a full featured practice facility. A park-like setting and golf academy will offer more options than the standard driving range. The quality of this practice facility will equal the quality of the golf course, by providing the opportunity for creative shot-making, not just ball-hitting, at a practice facility which simulates on-course conditions. In 2013, the Green Committee identified a wish list of architects, the stars aligned and the Club had the chance to work with their first choice, Coore and Crenshaw. This firm is considered to be the best in the world today. Their conceptual plan is to develop a highly functional member practice area and premier short course that will leave Farmington with the best golf facility in Virginia. Their plan includes: Farmington’s existing golf program has brought new men and ladies to the game and cultivated an extremely successful youth program. The volume of participation continues to grow, along with strains on the capacity of the existing facility. Though the practice complex will accommodate the needs of Farmington’s expanding golf program, the warm up range will remain for members who are simply looking to hit a few balls before heading to the first tee. Ten Hole Premier Short Course Six Par 3 Holes: 77 to 187 Yards Three Par 4 Holes: 265 to 375 Yards One Uphill Par 5 Hole: 437 Yards Over the past ten plus years, many members of the Golf and Green Committees have studied the existing practice amenities. After careful scrutiny and analysis, the following are the desirable attributes identified for a golf practice facility for Farmington’s membership: 4. Practice fairway bunker 5.
