From the President
August Rush is a fictional character in a movie that my wife watches repeatedly.
He is a musical prodigy that is unknowingly orphaned at birth but is rediscovered
by his birth parents at movies end. What does this have to do with Lake View
Country Club? Absolutely nothing, but the calendar shows August is over and fall
is rushing in. Some of the best golf days of the year are still in front of us. So take
every opportunity to enjoy what is left of summer before the onslaught of less
desirable conditions invades northwestern Pennsylvania. Get out and play.
Our Informational meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 16th. This is
an important meeting to highlight some of the needed improvements, equipment
upgrades, and cosmetic changes that Lake View will need to consider at some point
in the future. As these issues require the appropriation of funds, your input is of the
utmost importance before we implement any strategic plan.

Pizza Party and Draft Beer Included
I would like to thank the entire staff at Lake View for a memorable party behind thirteen
green. The weather cooperated; the fireworks were fantastic, the food tasty and
abundant, the band outstanding, and your hard work made it all happen. But most
of all, the sincerity that you exhibit when interacting with the members throughout
the year, your attention to the tiniest of details, your politeness, and especially your
smiles always make any event worth attending.
Also, just a reminder that our food, beverage, and event coordinator, Megan Kehl,
will be exchanging wedding vows with her fiancé, Robert Trypus, on September
12th. I am certain that everyone at Lake View joins me in wishing the newlyweds all
the best as they begin their next life together.

CRANE’S TIP
: On longer putts, take a longer putting stroke to improve
distance control. You want a stroke that “rolls” the ball and
not a “hitting” stroke. If you were rolling the ball underhand
to your target, you would swing your arm back and follow
through to achieve the proper distance. Your putting stroke
needs to accomplish the same thing. To eliminate those three
putts, lengthen your putting stroke and leave yourself a closer
second putt.
ETIQUETTE
Spike marks are becoming a problem especially late in the
day. If you see spike marks repair, tap them down amd repair
after you have completed play of the hole.
POSTING SCORES
Lake View’s new Handicap chairman has discovered
that some members are not posting all of their scores.
All 9 and 18 hole scores should be posted, no matter
where the rounds were played. Scores should be
posted immediately following play or reflect the correct
date of play when posted. We compare the tee sheets
with the “Home” posting record. Members will be
given an opportunity to correct their posting record. If
not, the handicap committee will take action per USGA
Guidelines. Questions on posting can be answered at
the Pro Shop counter.

MERCYHURST UNIVERSITY GOLF TEAMS
We are the host club for both the men’s and women’s
teams this year. The women’s team have their tournament
at Lake View on Friday, Sept 11 and Saturday, Sept 12. The
Mercyhurst Men’s team tournament is Sunday, Sept 27 and
Monday, Sept 28.
RULES QUESTION
The 150 stakes, computer boxes, and the rain shelter are all
considered as immovable obstructions. You are entitled to relief
for swing and stance, what about line of sight? If the 150 stake is
movable, may you move it?
ANSWER: : Interference from an immovable obstruction occurs
when a ball lies in or on the obstruction, or when the obstruction
interferes with a player’s stance or the area of his intended swing.
If the player moves an immovable obstruction, he would be
improving his lie and would be penalized two strokes.
