Artemis Investment
Management LLP
- backing British sailing since 2006
Independent and owner-managed, Artemis opened for business in 1997. Its aim was, and still is,
exemplary investment performance and client service. All Artemis’ staff share these two precepts
– and the same flair and enthusiasm for fund management. The firm now manages some £18.6
billion* across a range of funds, two investment trusts, a hedge fund, a venture capital trust and
both pooled and segregated institutional portfolios.
Artemis’ fund managers invest in the funds that they and their colleagues manage. This has been
a key tenet of Artemis’ approach to investment since the firm started. It means that we ‘eat our
own cooking’. It means that our fund managers’ interests are directly aligned with those of our
investors. As part of Artemis’ distinctive culture, the Artemis Charitable Foundation receives each
year a fixed percentage of the firm’s revenues. That income is passed on to charities chosen by our
staff. And by underwriting such events as the Artemis Kindrochit Quadrathlon, the Foundation
enables further charitable giving. All this encourages our staff to contribute to the world beyond
fund management.

some of the biggest names in ocean racing from Britain and Europe.
The Monohulls
Artemis Ocean Racing II – IMOCA 60
Skipper: Brian Thompson
Artemis Ocean Racing has been participating in the Artemis Challenge
since its inception in 2007, helmed by line up of world-renowned offshore
skippers and British Olympic medallists. For 2014, British world record
breaking sailor Brian Thompson will again take to the driving seat for the
50-mile charity sprint. Thompson has now skippered more IMOCA 60s
than any other Briton to date and already boasts an Artemis Challenge
win in 2008 on his Vendée Globe boat Team Pindar.
Team SCA – Volvo Ocean 65
Skipper: Sam Davies
Eighty percent of SCA’s consumers are women, and through its everyday
products the company supports women empowerment and freedom to
participate fully in society – socially, educationally and professionally –
by giving them access to hygiene products and education about hygiene
solutions. SCA is ranked as a global sustainability leader both when it
comes to people and nature targets. Team SCA Women Ocean Racing is
participating in the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-2015 with an all-female crew.
SCA is entering the race with the world’s best women offshore-racing
sailors, who have the ability to work together as a high-performing team.

Dongfeng Race Team – Volvo Ocean 65
Skipper: : Charles Caudrelier
Dongfeng Race Team will race for China in the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15.
There is a strong commitment to a long-term sporting mission that puts
the future interests of Chinese sailing at the core of Dongfeng Race Team
project. For the 2014-15 edition the objective is to deliver a competitive
campaign with, for the first time in the history of the race, multiple
Chinese sailors onboard. This is a key element in setting the conditions for
the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18 when the aim is to have a campaign with
the majority of the sailors onboard being Chinese and for the 2020-21
edition of the race, a 100% Chinese project with a Chinese skipper and a
Chinese crew. There is a strong momentum to create a legacy for offshore
sailing so that Chinese sailors can excel in this discipline, in the same way
the Chinese Olympic sailors have done. We hope the Chinese nation will
follow the Dongfeng Race Team story that is only just beginning….
Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing– Volvo Ocean 65
Skipper: : Ian Walker
Backed by the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) and led by British
double Olympic silver medallist Ian Walker, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing (ADOR) is one of the
six current challengers for the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15. ADOR’s Volvo Ocean 65, Azzam
(which means ‘determination’ in Arabic) was commissioned in Southampton in February
and since then Walker’s international crew have been clocked up almost 10,000 ocean
miles from their training base in Cascais, Portugal.
ADOR skipper Ian Walker is one of Britain’s most successful sailors. After winning
silver medals at two Olympics, Walker turned coach to mastermind fellow Brit Shirley
Robertson’s gold in 2004. He went on to play leading roles in two America’s Cup
campaigns and win the TP52 World Championship before shifting his focus to the Volvo
Ocean Race. In 2008-09, he led the Green Dragon syndicate and then took charge of Abu
Dhabi Ocean Racing’s for their debut in the race in 2011-12 and now he leads their return
for the 2014-15 edition.
Walker hand picked his crew for his latest attempt to the Volvo Ocean Race and has chosen
an international lineup that blends experienced VOR veterans with some exciting fresh new
talent.
