MIKE’S MEANDERINGS
January 2011 already, heres wishing you a Happy
New Year and hoping everyone had a safe and a very
Merry Christmas. Our holiday schedule and our
normal activities are all listed in our Jan activities,
please keep them close for references. One very
important event coming this month is our Chili-cookoff. Be sure to circle Sat Jan 22, on your calendar and
bring a crock of chili to enter. Last year we had 39
entries. So we’re shooting for 40 plus this year! Two
sets of judges will be on hand, plus two sets of prizes
will be awarded. Two finalist from each division will
have their Chili judged to see who represents the
Legion at the finals. (Yes we are lucky to host it again
in February.) So get out Grandma’s recipe and bring
your batch to the club, times are listed in the
newsletter and there will be burgers and bingo as
usual. With all the snow we’ve had, you might notice
that the sidewalks have been kept shoveled pretty
good, if you happen to see Curtis in the club, let him
know, he is our #1 man who keeps them clean. Again
the staff and management hopes everyone had a
Merry Christmas and has a prosperous New Year.
Mike
Let us make sure we keep all our troops and especially
those in harms way in our thoughts and prayers.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas with family & friends, and
with the New Year approaching hope everyone has a great year.
Membership – We’re currently at 42 (Approx 65% toward goal)
paid up members for the 2011 membership year. So far this year
we’ve had 37 renew their memberships and 5 new members.
This year’s goal is 64. We still have 22 members that haven’t
renewed for the 2011 year. Sign up 3 new SAL members and
receive a Wednesday night steak dinner for 2 served at the club.
Starting in January our meeting night is going to be the first
Monday of the month. We’re hoping to get a few more members
to attend. This is also Burger night (put on by the SAL) so come
down and have a burger prior to the meeting. Everyone is
welcome to attend.
Please keep our service members and their families that are
serving this great nation all over the world in your thoughts and
prayers.

COMMANDERS CORNER
First and foremost I want to wish everyone a Happy New
Year. I’ve now completed 6 months as your commander
and hope I have served you well. I’d like to hear from
you the members on any concerns you may have. We
have a number of events still coming up this year and I’d
like to see more members come on down and help us out.
As always membership continues to be one of my
#1priorities. As of this date we’ve had 37 new members
to our post. Memberships for the 2011 year continue to
come in, please keep them coming. We’re currently are
654 (90%) and only 71 from our goal. If you haven’t
renewed your dues now would be a great time to do so.
I’d like to welcome 12 new members to our post in the
last month. See newsletter for names.
Last month our post was honored to be the pall bearers for
the funeral of Fargo native Major Thomas Beyer, USAF,
Vietnam Veteran who had been listed as MIA for nearly
42 years. I’d like to thank the following for representing
our post. They were 1st Vice Commander Wayne
Schumacher, 9th District Commander Gary H. Olson,
John Carney, Jim Lisko, Tom Linnertz, 4th Vice
Commander Maurice Nicklay as well as myself. I’d also
like to thank our 4th Vice Commander Maurice Nicklay
for the outstanding leadership displayed at this funeral.
We’re hosting the 9th District mid winter conference on
January 7th & 8th. This is for the Post, Ladies Auxiliary
and Sons of the Legion. If you’re interested in attending
please let me know.
The club/post has planned another very busy month.
Check out the newsletter for events and times.
Thanks for your continued support. As always this is
your club/post home.
Please contact me w/any
comments, thoughts, ideas or concerns etc.
As always please keep our veterans, service members,
and their families in your thoughts and pray every day for
our deployed soldiers to return home safely.

UNIT 21 PRESIDENT
Happy Holidays!
December has not been a good month for me, so far, as I was
forced to cancel our regular meeting on Dec. 15th because of
illness. This meeting was changed to Wed Dec. 29th Same
Routine...if you want to come to the club by 7pm for steak
dinner and then have our meeting at 8pm.
We’re getting ready for Mid Winter which will be hosted by
us, Post & Unit 21, at the Club on January 7th & 8th. The
women will be meeting in the middle section between the bar
area & stage area. (Where the men will meet.)
The Aux will be taking over the monthly Bingo Party at the VA
Hospital. This will start in January. Please call if you can help
out.
We are hoping to have membership all completed by MidWinter. If you haven’t renewed for 2011, Please do so asap to
help us meet goal.
Don’t forget our continuing project for the local school’s!
